We engaged Absolute Travel (a high-end Luxury Travel company) at the end of January 2015 to assist in planning our 10 day trip to [redacted] in April 2015. Included in the services they provided is the arrangement for private guides during the time of our visit. We were billed $20,000 for the services of these guides. The fees also paid included car service and drivers. The majority of the guides that Absolute Travel assigned to our daily site-seeing excursions were beyond inadequate. We are English speaking, and not only could the guides not speak the English language fluently, they also were unable to understand what we were trying to communicate to them. We found that the drivers were often more knowledgeable than the guides and their knowledge of English was often greater. The impact of the extremely sub-par guides was significant. We went to [redacted] to learn about its culture and appreciate its beauty and were left extremely frustrated that we did not have guides that were capable of helping us accomplish our hopes for our trip. Not only did we incur a significant amount of cost for the guides but we also incurred other substantial travel costs. All this for a trip that was spoiled by guides that could not help us learn about the country we had so looked forward to visiting.

The excuse provided to us by Absolute Travel was that we were late in making our final travel itinerary and due to it being the height of Cherry Blossom season, they had to scramble to find guides to assign to our trip. Absolute travel indicated they did the best they could considering the time they were given to make the arrangements. Though we booked when we did, our travel agent was promised top notch guides.

In our opinion this is unacceptable customer service. Particularly considering the following excerpt pulled from Absolute Travel’s website. It touts they are constantly circling the globe to provide “expert guides”

We have over two decades of experience in the luxury travel industry, and we are constantly circling the globe in order to provide you with cutting-edge destination knowledge and personalized, well-planned itineraries that come complete with expert guides with on-the-ground spontaneity, and the perfect place to relax at the end of the day.”

We do not recommend the services of Absolute Travel.
