the office that he has located a home to purchase off base and that is why he wanted to break his lease. He only occupied the home on base for a short time and signed a lease upon move-in that indicates he is responsible for a lease break fee if he vacates the home prior to the end of the lease agreement. We were very responsive and worked to rectify all issues presented by Mr. [redacted] during his move-in time. No other issues have been presented to this office as not being operational. I feel that we as soldiers deserve better. The military housing communities lack so much. Maintenance is always an issue and customer service is horrible. Issues do not get resolved in a timely manner in many cases. As servicemembers we should be better taken care of. As much as we have to pay housing should be better. Many of my fellow airman live in poor conditions in base housing that is old and full of harmful problems. Children aren't taken into consideration either, otherwise there would be working water fountains and clean useable playgrounds.
We moved into Corry Village in the end of November 2013, and have had nothing but unpleasant experiences so far when it comes to the neighborhood environment and safety.
Our neighbors regularly park their vehicle on our front lawn, and allow their dogs to run around the streets/open fields/parks in our neighborhood without leashes. We've called Security Forces to come out to make reports over 10 times, and they've told us repeatedly each time that they come out, that it's a housing issue, and that there's nothing that they can do outside of ask other residents to stop. We've made numerous reports with Balfour Beatty Housing, and are awaiting to hear what progress they've made and what resolution, if any, has been made with the neighbors that are clearly violating base housing pet and nuisance rules, and are creating a dangerous living environment for others.
Today, while my husband and I were taking our 1.5 year old and 5 month old out for a walk around the neighborhood with our dogs, 4 large dogs charged at us and were running back and forth across the street at us. I had my 5 month old in a baby carrier on my chest, and I had to quickly grab my 1.5 year old off the ground so the dogs couldn't jump on him/hurt him/etc/god knows what else considering a pack of multiple dogs came running at us and our small dog that was obviously on a leash at my side. The dogs also chased after my husband and our other dog up to our front door. The owners were outside the entire time, and continued to let their dogs roam around leash free after this happened. Security Forces came out and told us that they would ask them to keep their dogs in their yard. They additionally just came out just yesterday about the same dogs being out without leashes in public areas in base housing. It's really unfair to have to worry about the safety of our children and pets in a base housing community due to other residents' pets. I don't feel comfortable having multiple dogs out roaming the streets and running at our family and pets. We chose to live in base housing when we moved here to live in a safe environment, that we assumed would be monitored and rules would be enforced. I don't care how friendly or trained anyone claims their dog is. That does not account for all of the possible negative conflicts that can arise from their dogs being out without leashes. Escambia county enforces a leash law-- as does Balfour Beatty Housing/Corry Station. I'd appreciate this law being enforced, so that we as residents, can live safely in our own community.
Overall, I'd highly discourage future residents from living here in Corry Village. It's very unfortunate and frustrating to live in a housing community where rules are not enforced.
I understand that there is a process in dealing with residents that break laws; however, after over 10 visits from Security Forces, multiple calls to the housing office to report dogs being out without leashes with multiple video and photo proof of it happening regularly, and meeting with the housing office management in person-- I expect to not get chased down by dogs in base housing while out playing with our children in our neighborhood.
