Review: I was recently involved in a car accident. The tow truck from C&R arrived before the police. Once I was done giving the police my statement the police officer informed me that I would have to have my car towed immediately. I asked the C&R driver if I would incur any cost if my insurance company wanted the repairs done by another body shop. The driver told me no "there will be no cost". I knew this sounded suspicious but I figured their business model was to find accidents and hope either the driver or insurance company would not want to go though the trouble of having the car towed to another shop and then they would get the business. My insurance company has a proffered vendors list and C&R is not on it. So I arranged to have my car towed to another shop. I called C&R to inform them. They tried to talk me out of it but I told them I was simply following the advice of my insurance company. Once again they made no mention of a fee. About 30 minutes later the second service that would be towing my car to the other body shop called to say that C&R would not release my car unless I paid them $635. I called C&R and told them they I specifiically asked if their would be a charge and they said no. C&R said we told you "there would be no charge for you but your insurance company will have to pay". I argued and told them how they tricked me at best but in reality actually flat out lied. In order to get my car I had to pay them and was reimbursed by my insurance. When I actually saw the bill they charged $285 for a 2 mile tow and $40 for cleanup. I can assure they did not clean up any damage from my car and the street was littered with debris from both cars. I feel as though C&R lies about their fees and traps people.Desired Settlement: I would like my money refunded and I want to make sure others are aware of their shady practices.

To whom it may concern,

In regards to Mr. [redacted] complaint against us we are sorry he feels we were "Shady" or "tricking him". However this is common practice in the Towing and collision industry. Mr. [redacted] was told by our driver that he wouldn' t have to pay because his insurance would cover it. And if he chose to have his car repaired at our facility he would not be charged storage at all. Originally Mr. [redacted] was intending to have his car fixed at our facility but changed his mind. In a situation where the car goes to another shop, the tow truck company that picks up the vehicle pays the charges to have the car released. In this case they did not pay.

So it became Mr. [redacted] responsibility to pay the charges so we could release the car to them. We do not feel we owe Mr. [redacted] a refund since he was already reimbursed by his insurance. Again we are sorry Mr. [redacted] felt in any way that we duped him. That was of course not our intention. But we did provide a service for Mr. [redacted] and for that we do need paid. Hope this clears the air.

Thank you,
