Review: My mother [redacted] of [redacted], VA hired CW Fields Plumbing about 3 years ago to fix her residential sewer pipe problem. The pipe had some cracks in it and needed to be replaced. Raw sewage had been backing up in the basement of my mothers [redacted]. My mother paid CW Fields Plumbing $20,000 to fix the pipe. All seemed ok at first. Until some months later, when raw sewage began to backup again in my mother's basement. After, going back and forth with CW Fields, they now refuse to answer my mo** calls. My mom has paid an additional 4,000 to another plumbing company to keep having her sewer pipe cleaned out every couple of months. My mom never had a problem with her sewer pipe for twenty some years living in her house. Now, she has proble** all the time. Whenever my mom calls the company she is treated so poorly she cries. No one wants to help her. CW Fields has yet come out to fix the problem and they know what it is. After doing some research on our own, we discovered CW Fields never requested a permit for final inspection on the work they had done.Desired Settlement: If they cannot finish the job in the month of March 2014, we want the $20,000 back plus all the money we have spent up to now having my mother's basement pumped out of raw sewage.

Response:

April 14th, 2014Dear **. [redacted],Thank you for the opportunity to respond to the above noted complaint. The contract was signed on March 1, 2011 (See attached proposal) for $10,450. The $550 was the cost to clear the clog. [redacted] County Plumbing Permit #[redacted] was pulled and placed on the customer door during the time the work was in progress. CW Fields Plumbing, Inc. trades as CW Fields and Son, did not retain a copy of the issued permit because it was attached to the [redacted] owner’s door. The renewed permit original is currently attached to the [redacted]owner’s door. A copy of the current permit, #[redacted] is enclosed. The original work was completed by March 9, 2011. At that time, a [redacted] County Inspector approved both the pipe, bedding and grade prior to the backfill work of the paving company. We returned March of 2012 for another clogged drain. We gave discounted price on the clog and ran a camera at no charge to the customer to ensure that no damage had occurred during the 2011 earthquake. (See enclosed work ticket.) The camera at that time showed what appeared to be a flat spot but nothing that would catch debris and create clog. The customer also indicated that [redacted] County had cleared the main sewer and they had not had a clog in almost a year. In the spring of 2013 we received several calls from the customer. The customer was advised, that our work had been approved [redacted] County inspections and that since more than a year after the work was completed that our work was not an issue. We received several calls from the customer November and December of 2013. The customer was informed that we would address the problem when the weather was clear enough to replace the paving. The President, myself did have a brief conversation with the senior family member in December 2013 indicating that we were trying to get information from [redacted] County on the camera work done before the holidays. We did receive a photo from [redacted] County that showed what appeared to be a break in the joint of a pipe. By then we had sent a letter to the senior family member dated January 3, 2014 (see enclosed) that would excavate to determine the problem but would have to coordinate with the paving company. The weather was not warm long enough, to get on the schedule of our new paving company to complete the work. We scheduled the work as soon as the paving company was able to make a commitment to do the paving.Attached see a preliminary report of the [redacted] County Plumbing inspector on Wednesday April 9, 2014:There were no defects in the pipe. (See enclosed email of April 9, 2014.) He did want to verify the grade and bedding prior to backfill. [redacted] County was called in to clear the main and send a team to take more pictures. There has been no official determination. However, the photos appear to indicate the lining of the main sewer is off kilter at the tap. He approved the bedding and grading (This is the second time our work was approved for this job) on Friday April 11, 2014 and backfill per VDOT was begun. The only work remaining at this time is to complete the paving of the road.Sincerely,
