Review: On August 8, 2014, while staying with my parents in California, I went to my mothers eye doctor because I had been having blurry vision for a few days. This was:Dr. [redacted]o, M.D.390 West Quinto St.Santa Barbara, CA 93105###-###-####Dr. [redacted] is a member of:California Retina Consultants515 East Mitcheltorena Street, Suite CSanta Barbara, CA 93103-4223After the examination, he had me go see their specialist at their Oxnard office on August 11, 2014. This was:Dr. [redacted], M.D.1801 N. Solar Drive, Suite 145Oxnard, CA 93030###-###-####My health insurance does not cover out-of-state non-emergency visits. I was concerned about the cost of this exam, so I had Dr. [redacted]s office call their Oxnard office to ask how much it would cost me to be examined when I did not have insurance, as I was paying the full price myself. They called and told me it would be about $200. Dr. [redacted]s office wrote $200 on my paperwork, as they were speaking on the phone. When I went to the Oxnard office and they asked about my insurance information, I told them that I did not have insurance in CA and I would be paying the full cost of the visit and exam myself that day by credit card. After the exam, they told me it was $350.00, and I paid the whole amount by credit card. They gave me a receipt that said Balance due was $0.00. I was upset about having to pay $150 more than what their office told me, but I did it without complaining to them. (P.S. the Office Policies shows the 8th policy, If you have no insurance, payment is expected at the time of service.) Later, I receive a bill from California Retina Consultants for $570.00. I feel this is very unfair. First, I had already told them on August 8 that I would be was paying for the full office visit and was quoted $200. Next they charged me $150 more than what they originally said they would once I did the exam. Once I saw the $350 bill, I reminded them again that I was paying the full bill on the spot, which I did. Now that they have sent me another bill for $570, this brings my total bill for the exam to $920. That is 460% of what they originally told me ($200).I was scheduled to return to Massachussetts about two weeks after the exam. If I had known the real cost of the exam beforehand, I definitely would not have gone. That was why I asked them the full cost beforehand. I would have waited two weeks, and seen my own doctor for the cost of a simple copay. But Dr. [redacted] told me that if I did not go see his partner at the Oxnard office, I could lose my sight and he said it was an emergency. I did not feel that my eyes were serious and I felt that I was forced to go for further exam. However, after the exam Dr. [redacted] said that I did not need any treatment.Desired Settlement: I had paid the whole bill on side. I told them I would pay the whole bill right there. They told me the whole amount, and I paid it. And they gave me a receipt showed amount due was 0 on August 11th, 2014. I request that they remove my extra $570 bill.
