Review: I had an emergency on Memorial Day where my cat [redacted] had received a two inch cut on his leg. I took him in and was presented with an estimate which included the cost for numerous unrelated items. I approved only those items related to the injury. I was specifically told that the cut would to closed. When I had returned I was presented with a bill which had exceeded the approved estimate and included the cost for unrelated procedures. Finally when I got my cat back, the cut had not been closed up and it was clear that nothing had been done. I had to take him to another vet. the next day to have 6 stitches put in. I did not receive the agreed services but yet I was charged top dollar. Its just that simple. They agreed to close up the injury and they didn't do it..Desired Settlement: I did not receive the agreed services. I want a full refund.

RE: Complaint #[redacted]

Our client brought his pet in for care on 5/26/14 to be seen by a Veterinarian for a laceration. Client was presented an estimate for the exam, laceration repair, and additional indicated treatment. The client approved the estimate for the laceration repair, fine needle aspirate and cytology and medication to go home. Upon return, client decided he did not want the laboratory testing so it was therefore removed from the invoice and the test was not submitted. California Veterinary Specialists provided the care as outlined in the estimate, and also provided written discharge instruction to the client. On our written discharge instructions, it is outlined that the wound was closed with tissue glue (less invasive than sutures), and to monitor the wound for dehiscence (opening).

After the patient was discharged, the patient did not tolerate the medication sent home. A full refund was given to the client for the medication sent home. On 5/30/14 an email was received that was very difficult to discern. Here is the written communication from the client:

Thank you for see [redacted] but I have some questions; Why was the cost the needle

aspiration on my first estimate but not the cost for the testing? Why was I charged

for the aspiration when I didn't approve the cost for the testing? Why wasn't I give

an alternative solution for the condition on his chin, like Oxi-pads? Why was I

given Clavamox when my wife said the [redacted] was unable to take it? It makes him

sick. Why wasn't the cut on his leg closed up, like I was told would be done?

Something I had to pay another Doctor to do. What did I pay for? Why shouldn't I

get my money back for the needle aspiration? Why shouldn't I get my money back for

the Clavamox? Why shouldn't you reimburse me for the cost of having the cut closed

by another Vet when I hired you to do it? Why shouldn't I address this matter with

the Revdex.com. Will I need a lawyer? Why should I ever return? Thank you for your time

and consideration. Robert A. Seehase an A rated member of the Revdex.com since 1998.

When talking to the female client (email was from the male client), she was pleased with the refund on the medication, and had no comment regarding the email received. Unfortunately, the client did not follow up with California Veterinary Specialists regarding further issues with the wound closure. If the wound re-opened, as noted that it could, why was the cat not returned to our care as requested in the Discharge Instructions that were reviewed with and given to the client? When addressing the e-mail and concerns, why was the matter dropped and not addressed when asked? Unfortunately, due to the nature of the email and due to the issue being addressed verbally on a call with the owner and believed to have been resolved, the matter was then dropped.

To further address the questions posed in the e-mail and the Revdex.com complaint, if I understand them correctly:

- The needle aspirate was performed on [redacted], as requested and signed in the estimate. When you chose not to pursue the cytology, the cytology testing was removed from the lab request system, and not performed and also not charged for. Because you approved (by signature) the needle aspirate in a signed estimate and it was already performed, it was charged for.

- The lump on the chin was suggested that it have a cytology to understand why there is a lump on the chin. That was the professional suggestion of the doctor. If you want to use some other medicine or over the counter product, you are welcome to do so.

- After [redacted] did not do well on Clavamox, a full refund was issued and the concern was addressed in multiple phone calls and attention to the matter.

- The wound on his leg was closed with tissue glue after being clipped and cleaned, and a local anesthesia applied.

- If the wound dehisced (as warned it may do so), you would have been welcome to bring [redacted] back to CVS for care and closure, however you chose not to.

- Please find attached the signed estimate that outlines treatments, and notes specifically that you declined Radiographs, which were neither performed nor charged for

- The estimate includes the Needle Aspirate which was approved and charged for.

- You declined the cytology after approving it- we were able to cancel the test, and did not charge for it.

- An Estimate for Care is exactly that- an estimate- and it also states charges could exceed up to 30% of the estimate low and high end. Your invoice total was less.

Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention again, we regret that you did not feel that your cat was well cared for and look forward to resolving any further questions and concerns proactively.

Regards,

Practice Manager
