Revdex.com:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

Calla Karate's response is simply not the truth. I filed this complaint exactly as it happened and a business can not do this to customers and charge $300. There are witnesses willing to appear or write statements as well. I understand sometimes people get mad and nervous and behave regrettably but my normal, friendly conversation with other parents in the waiting room are my business. To have [redacted], who teaches children on a daily basis, behave this way to a woman, alone in his office, and then her husband in front of a room full of parents and children, is saddening. And all just anger over a few adults discussing the rates they were being charged? The fact that they firstly made this $300 charge, and secondly, now refuse to refund it, is far beyond my understanding of good business practice and simply of deplorable character.

Review: In July 2014, my Husband and I put our children into their trial karate class. During their first class, while in the observation area, my husband had spoken with two other parents about pricing. Then when I took them to their next class, the [redacted], asked me to come into his office, which is basically a small closet. There, he sat me down, towered over me and went into a raging verbal assault riddled with insults about what a nerve my husband had for discussing pricing with other parents. My head was spinning! I didn't know what to do. I just wanted to get away from this monster! I left there in tears and went home and told my husband. The next day, my husband went there to return our children's uniforms because of course we wouldn't tolerate such unprofessional, violent behavior and poor service from any business and [redacted] started yelling and cursing at my husband from across the dojo full of parents and then jumped threateningly in my husband's face and told him to get the hell out! We later found out from other parents that [redacted] secretly records all rooms within the dojo. He must have gotten upset that we would discover he was overcharging us with his pricing by speaking to other parents. About a month later, I got a credit card bill. They had the nerve to charge me after what they did! I went to the credit card company and they refused to reverse the charge! After repeated attempts, Calla Karate is still refusing to credit my account!Desired Settlement: $317.98 = The $300 Credit Card Charge plus interest accrued on my credit card @ 8.99% from July 2014, through March 2015.

Response:

Calla Karate & JuJutsu prides our business on customer satisfaction and would like the opportunity to correct the facts. In response to the above complaint the correct details are as follows. The [redacted] family presented at Calla Karate after disappointment with previous karate school's. As a courtesy upon enrollment they were not charged a member fee and began their program half way into the month for which the price was prorated. They additionally purchased two uniforms. We later sent [redacted] a welcoming email in which he responded "that we were by far the best but our prices were a little high." Two weeks into the program I was informed by parents that [redacted] was harassing them in our waiting room with questions regarding their monthly dues. I sent an email to [redacted] in regards to this matter in which he responded that he would speak with me later at class. He did not bring the children to class however his wife did. [redacted] spoke with [redacted], she was unaware of the situation. Pricing was reviewed again, and it was explained that parents did not want to be approached. Our prices were reviewed with [redacted] prior to enrolling also. There was no violent or harassing behavior as my waiting room was full of witnesses and we do not conduct ourselves in that manner. We do have surveillance camera's which are of public knowledge. [redacted] was encouraged in the email to come speak to us about our fee's, instead he chose to badger people in our waiting room, which is not acceptable. [redacted] arrived at the school later that same evening, uniforms in hand to express his dismay for speaking with his wife. There was no conflict or resolution at that time, other than a difference of opinion. He informed us that his children would no longer be attending our school. I cancelled his contract with no penalty. Sometime thereafter I received a credit card dispute for his initial $300.00 investment. The [redacted]'s were not charged for anything they did not receive. The uniforms they purchased had been worn and their names had been written on them. They also attended 2 weeks of karate classes (each student). Our contract, which was signed and could have been legally binding clearly states that there is a 60 day cancellation policy. We cancelled their membership and did not hold them liable for their contractual agreement. They paid for services and product that were rendered. All necessary paper work was submitted to their credit card company who found to be in favor with Calla Karate. We recently received another email from [redacted] regarding his refund request. In that email he stated we should refund his money to avoid further issues. He was directed to contact his credit card company for details and this email was cc'd to our attorney. T hank you, [redacted]

[redacted], I am again responding to the newest notice received o March ** In response to their complaint regarding a refund - I am not refunding the initial cost of $300 as explained previously. The initial cost was for karate classes that were attended and for uniforms that were worn. However, what I did do in fairness to a customer who was not satisfied was terminate their 12 month commitment with no penalty. My story has not changed My defense has been the same since this started with the credit card dispute which ended in favor of Calla Karate. And at risk of sounding redundant our tuition rates are standard and fair. The [redacted] family was not forced to commit to a program at Calla Karate. They voluntary enrolled. Had they addressed their tuition concerns with me, I would have happily did my best to resolve their issue. Unfortunately it was taken up with other family members in my school. As uncomfortable as the situation may be, it is our responsibility to address everyone's concerns. Again I respectfully submit my response. Should you require additional information, please feel free to contact me. Regards, [redacted]
