Caribbean Import/Export, Inc. Reviews (1)

Review: I purchased a 1996 Honda Accord from this dealership on June 24, 2013. I also purchased an extended 3 months/4,500 miles warranty. We left from the dealership around 5:00 that evening and went straight to my father's house to pick up my daughter and then straight home. I drove the vehicle to work the next morning and at 3:30 that evening on my way home the CHECK ENGINE light came on. I took it to Advanced Auto that evening and they hooked it up to the computer and it said that it was the oxygen sensors. I tried contacting the dealership several times with no answer. We noticed a jerk in the car when you would first hit the gas and this happened several times and still does. Almost like something is clogged. My wife called the warranty place to see if this was covered under the warranty on June 27, 2013 and they couldn't tell her anything because they didn't have a copy of the warranty yet. We took the car to [redacted] to have the transmission checked out thinking the jerking could possibly be that but the transmission checked out okay. They then hooked it up to their computer and it said the EGR valve was bad. I contacted Mr. [redacted] and he said that this would not be fixed under warranty but for $15 he would fix it. This sounded a bit odd considering the parts alone were around $65 and I didn't feel comfortable taking the vehicle back for him to fix it being the price given and wanting him to pay. I feel that we hadn't had this car for 24 hours before it did this and it should be the dealership's responsibility to fix this regardless if I signed anything AS IS or not it was less than 24 hours after having the car. My wife contacted the warranty place again today to see if they could help us or if possibly it was covered and they told her they never received any paperwork regarding the warranty for this vehicle and told us to get it fixed and submit our paperwork to them. We don't have the money to get this fixed. We are a one income family and we simply just don't have it. We feel this was a problem with the car before it was sold and was hidden and not mentioned. The easy fix to turn a "Check Engine" light off temporarily is to remove the battery cable.Desired Settlement: I feel that the problem causing the "Check Engine" light needs to be fixed at our choice of repair shop and paid for by the dealership since this happened not even 24 hours after purchasing the vehicle.

Response:

The customer did not read the warranty coverage on the copy of his contract, if he did he would have noticed that the powertrain warrant does not cover engine lights nor the egr sensor these are mentainance items and are not covered on any powertrain warranties. He purchased the vehicle from my company and signed the As Is Buyers order and the Buyers guide. Regarding the warranty he purchased since the engine and the transmission has checked out ok for his satisfaction, I can request a refund for the $100.00 and give it back to him to help pay for the repairs. Also I did offer to help replace those sensors free of charge if he would buy the parts. Thank you, [redacted]

Response:

Receiving $100 back does not completely resolve anything! That tells me that I will be getting money back from where the warranty contract was never finalized on their part and having the customer service representative telling my wife that they had no knowledge of the warranty information proves that. The comment stating that I did not completely read the purchase contract that I bought an AS IS car is unacceptable. I clearly knew what I was buying and understood that I was buying an AS IS car. Having the warranty purchase option available made the purchase more comfortable at the time but obviously turned out to be a mistake. Mr. [redacted] never clearly stated that he would fix the car free of charge when I called him. I asked if the warranty covered andhe said it did not and when I explained what had happened he clearly sounded upset and just kept repeating how much he could get the parts for and to bring it by and again repeated how much parts would be. The way I took itis that it would be my responsibility topay for the parts and repair. The cost he said he could get the parts for were far lower than what they actually cost. After speaking with him and hearing his tone of voice, I felt that he was very unprofessional and somewhat rude and felt that if I were to take the car back to have the work done I would question the dependability of the parts and service. Therefore, I would like to request that along with the $100 being offered, I also receive the total cost of the part that was needed to fix the problem which is $160.05, bringing the total to $260.05. I can provide a receipt showing the cost of the part being $160.05 and as stated above, clearly the warranty contract was never received by the warranty. The required paperwork should be sent to the warranty place by the dealership and the remaining 2 months/4,500 miles should remain in effect. Regards,[redacted]
