Review: Had a VW Van Taken to the shop to have a used engine installed. Before van was towed to their shop I personally put the engine (already removed) and the exhaust heat exchanger manifold inside the van. After the engine was replaced had the van towed to my house as it was not yet registered. Original engine was inside van but not the exhaust heat exchange manifold. I had assumed they had used it. Took the van to get smoged. Got a call from the smog company and was told they could not smog it as it was smoking way to much. Smoke pouring out from engine area. Took van home and looked at engine, could see oil caked on engine heads also saw that the exhaust heat exchange manifold I had sent down was actually not used. Called shop and a rep Carlos came to look at van, he said it just needed new valve cover gaskets. He looked at the engine for 2 seconds. I told him the engine looked pretty dirty but was told not a problem. I then asked him where was the exhaust heat exchange manifold that was with the van when sent to the shop. At first he said that it had been put on the engine. I told him that no way was it put on the engine because the one on the engine was all beat up with split seams on the heat exchangers and welds on bolted flanges. I told him that I wanted the one I sent down back. Was told he would check on it. Had the van towed back to the shop so they could check on the engine smoking and to replace valve cover gaskets. Called back a week latter to see how it was going and was told they were waiting for the parts. Any car parts store carries those gaskets. Asked about the exhaust heat exchange manifolds and was told it was never in the van. I told them I had personaly put it in the van and was then told, well they could not find it. That manifold is close to $2000 to replace and they can not find it. I believe they sold it as no one would throw it away. They finally called to say the van was ready. I picked it up and it stills pours out smoke, it gives you a headache and has no power.Desired Settlement: Do not trust them. They have no credibility. Have no trust in there workmanship. Just would like my money back. They can have the engine back as it is worthless as is the exhaust heat exchange manifold it came with. I also want my original exhaust heat exchange manifold back and if they can not get it then replace it with one that is in decent condition. One that I would accept.

I am rejecting this response because: I need find out some details from my son. He was the one that was dealing with the repair. All I know was that the work was done at that shop. If the owners brother has his own business working out of the same shop, then what is the name of his brothers business. Plus the exhaust heat exchange manifold is missing from that shop as the brother seems to be working out of it. If the shops owner does not have any involvement fine. I just find it odd you could have two business doing the same type of work, working out of the same shop, with no type of connection. I could be wrong
