The Chip Baily Design response to my complaint contains many
inaccuracies (a very generous description of their content in my opinion).First, there was no offer to resolve this.  So there is no response or resolution to
accept.Second, our job was 8 weeks behind (which is not unusual for
a house renovation?).  Mr. Baily never
mentioned that our job would ever be in jeopardy of being delayed in any way
and ultimately walked away from by him.
The original timeline was for him to install in January, I gave him the
go ahead March 1.  He had been out to the
house in February, so why he did not begin installation until 4/15 is still a
mystery to me (aside from the broken saw, bad transmission, paint rep running
out of dove white paint).  I would have
never agreed to work with Mr. Baily if he had indicated that there was any
possibility of our job being at the mercy of other jobs.  I don’t think any reasonable person would
agree to that.Third, Mr. Baily received our first and second payment
(second was for completion of cabinet framing) without having ever completed
the first cabinet frame.  When he
installed the cabinet frames in April (not May), he had just built them
out.  He had previously told me that they
were all built and ready to go.  They
were not. Third, we only worked with one plumber and one
electrician.  [redacted] and [redacted] (feel free to ask them for client references).  On the other hand, the granite company (Eco
Granite) said that Chip had not paid his bill in some time and the drawer front
manufacturer said Chip was on a COD basis with him. Fourth, the ONLY change to our job was to a desk.  We needed it 1 inch shorter, which Mr. Baily
assured me was not an issue.I have learned that the bulk of the cost of kitchen jobs is
in the cabinet doors and drawer fronts.
Mr. Baily had been promising those since 4/15/15.  His payment schedule has 2/3 of the payments
due before anything was ever delivered.
So in my case, he was effectively paid very handsomely for very little
work.  He profited by walking away from
the job. I have emails, recorded conversations, and texts from Mr.
Baily.  I am happy to provide any
additional detail.  He is a very
dishonest man, and frankly the public should be aware.

frames, carcass and dovetail draw boxes before the 1st week of December. I checked the progress of the job three times in December and by this time it was quite evident that the [redacted] job was way off schedule. We had to stop. My shop isn't set up to store entire jobs for months on end. Just before Christmas I inspected the job site once again and asked for a portion of 2nd draw as we had reached that level of completion (12/19/14).
At that time, I made it clear I needed two weeks to complete the assembling of their job, which allowed me to complete the install. Just a note- slight changes in measurements were often discovered and I had to make several adjustments to the cabinets before installation. (They fured out the kitchen walls and changed the right side of the kitchen terminating at a door to the sunroom. The [redacted]'s also changed the design of the master vanity. There were other changes and add-ons as well)
I entered this job making it clear I had plenty of time prior to Christmas to do the work but as spring approached I had some very large jobs coming in, which I had committed to before the [redacted] job and they were running on schedule. I also told them this could pose a serious problem if they grossly miss calculated their installation date.
I was April when they said they wanted me to meet with their electrician about the wiring on the island, that's when I realized they were asking for the installation of the kitchen and other cabinets, four months past their installation date.
I told them I had prior committments running on schedule and that I could only work weekends and evenings to get them done. All of this effort would have to be overtime on my part. By May and working every weekend we had all the cabinets set and measured for granite.
With granite installed we started trimming. We started with the Flutes and Rosettes and the fronts of the cabinets and then with the 4 1/4" beaded cove crown. The cabinets have an antique distressed look done with glazing and paint.
At this point the [redacted]s pushed for a completion date. This is where I estimated 17 working days remaining to finish the job. The time needed to be finished along with doors and drawer fronts. This is, also, where I asked for the balance on the 2nd draw (completion of carcass). Cabinets and granite had been installed at this point for more than a month and the balance was past due.
With another week into the job and the trim complete, I asked for the balance for 2nd draw (completion of carcass) once again and for the 3rd draw (completion of trim) as spelled out in our contract. This is where I realized they weren't going to adhere to our agreed upon timeline to perform. They expected me to perform without fulfilling their commitment to me. I sent [redacted] a letter outlining this to him. I made it perfectly clear that we had to be paid for the services performed under our agreement or we would have to cease working on his project. I haven't received anything to date.
Note: the numerous turnovers of sub contractors played a part of my decision in how far I could go on this job without payment. I dealt with three to four plumbers and electricians each on this job. They all were telling me to beware of these clients. Not your typical feedback. I was brought into this job by a contractor like so many of the other subs but discovered that the contractor wasn't going to be part of this huge renovation, the home owners decided to "GC" the project themselves. This was a 4000 sq. ft. plus home gutted and reconstruct/redesign project. I did everything I could do to work schedules out for the [redacted]s, including forfeiting my weekends to make this project work. All they had to do was meet their responsibilities to me for the completion of this job.

Review: We engaged Chip Baily to do renovate a kitchen, do bathroom cabinet work, and other cabinetry work for us. We paid him a deposit in November of 2014, then a second payment when he said he'd completed the build (December of 2014). He was supposed to install in March of 2015. After 6 weeks of excuses, he placed in the cabinet carcuses in mid April. From that point on, he has continuiously had excuses for not showing up, and not having drawers, doors, and pannels in. After tracking down his shop, validating he hadn't done any of the drawers, doors, or pannels, I found his house and talked to his wife [redacted]. He responded by giving us a final delivery schedule (17 business days in June 2015). He quit responding to texts, emails, and calls asking him about potential install dates. He refused to allow us to see any of the work at his shop.He has left us with an unfinished home. In researching him further, he has done this before to other people, and is likely to do it to others.Desired Settlement: I think others should be aware of his business practices. I'd love to get my money back, since I will have to start over with someone else. If the Revdex.com can facilitate this so I don't have to go through the court system, I would be amenable. This man is not to be trusted, and is a serial liar.
