Review: I'm from [redacted] Tennessee. On the internet I found Clinton Transmission by accident and spoke with the owner of this shop. He sounded very knowledgeable in re-building transmissions but I lived too far away. My company was hired to do a job at the power generating station in [redacted] Maryland. The hotel I stayed in was 10.7 miles from his shop so I was pleased to have him do this job for me. Taking a chance, I drove my 2001 [redacted] to Maryland because my plan was to have him rebuild my transmission; it had 287, 224 miles on it. Before the job got very busy I brought my vehicle to him on October 8th and rented a car from [redacted], three blocks away. Two days later my car was ready on the 10th. The next day it began to act up so I called him. The first thing he said was that it must be the torque converter, and later in our conversation he assumed the valves must be getting stuck. The receipt he issued says he installed a master overhaul kit, a torque converter, ATF which is the abbreviation for automatic transmission fluid and a solenoid pack, $1000 worth of parts. The other day while checking my motor oil, this is the first time looking under the hood. What I saw is that he painted over the marks I had on my transmission and he did not install the new solenoid he charged me for. As time went on my [redacted] continued to get worse so I called him again. He admitted to not putting on a new solenoid kit but charged me for it and wants me to bring my vehicle by his shop so he can add two products, [redacted] and [redacted] Instant Shudder Fixx. The total cost for this work cost me $2000. I have the receipt from him and what was charged to my [redacted] account. If he rebuilt my transmission like I paid him for, there wouldn't be any need to add those additives ([redacted] and [redacted]) When driving 55mph I can feel my vehicle slip out of gear, like it's chugging, it's a slight bucking. Sometime it will run good but then it will buck hard when shifting gears. A rebuilt transmission isn't supposed to do that. He insists it's the torque converter, or the valves and had mentioned the clutches are stiff. If he really rebuilt my transmission like I paid him to, none of this would be happening and I wouldn't be writing this letter. On top of all this, he painted over the marks I had on there so I can't tell if I have my original transmission. What he did is wrong. He keeps making excuses and I don't feel that allowing him to work on my vehicle is going to make things better; they'll just get worse. There's no evidence he put $1000 of new parts in my transmission. I have to go back home on the 15th and I'm not even sure my [redacted] will even make it. If I am fortunate to make it home I'm going to have to pay to have this fixed. I am sure that Fairly feels that once I leave, he will no longer have to deal with me or hear about what he did. It's sad that I paid $2000 for a service that who knows how long this will last and actually, I can't afford to pay someone else to fix what he should've done in the first place. Knowing that I'm not a resident of Maryland and live in Tennessee, he took advantage of me. I can not trust him or any of his mechanics to work on my vehicle again. In my opinion, fairly poor describes the quality of work he did on my transmission.Desired Settlement: Since my transmission is progressively getting worse and the owner of Clinton Transmission suggests that he add [redacted] and [redacted] Shudder Fixx, it sounds like he did not rebuild my transmission. Since it's been painted silver, I'm not sure it is my transmission. Whether it's mine or not, adding those additives are often done to hide internal problems with a transmission. In good faith I paid $2000 and did not get what I paid for which, was to have my transmission rebuilt. It's been painted so I don't know who's transmission has been installed. Since I didn't get what I paid for, the owner should be responsible for having my transmission fixed. My desired settlement is having a competent person repair my transmission or to be refunded.

[A default letter is provided here which indicates your acceptance of the business's response. If you wish, you may update it before sending it.]

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. It was previously reported to me by a nearby [redacted] dealership that the passenger side axle seal was leaking. Yesterday I had two master mechanics take a look. The seal is not leaking and the dealership was being dishonest. I am satisfied with the work done at the transmission shop in [redacted], Md.
