In 2014 I ordered a one year subscription to Cook's Illustrated. I did not want to reorder for another year. As the subscription was expiring I began to get notices that I owed the company money and that I had automatically signed up for yearly renewal. I had never signed up for "automatic renewal." The notices became more threatening, implying my credit would be affected. I was unable to click off the "auto renewal" on-line and their customer service is non-existent. On 7/18/15 I wrote Cook's Illustrated a check for $28.95 just to get them off my back. I've sent Cook's emails, letters, etc and noticed the Idaho AGs office. I've not heard from any of those organizations. I just read that Cook's has a long history of bad billing practices, difficulty canceling subscriptions and signing people up for "automatic renewals." This is obviously a scam Cook's has been using for years. They need to be stopped.
