Corinthian Colleges Reviews (1)

Review: I cosigned a "genesis" loan for (at the time) my significant other, who wanted to attend Wyotech aka Corinthian Colleges at Blairsville, PA in March 2013. During the application process, there was a extensively long waiting period for this loan to be "processed and applied" to the balance owed on tuition, to the extent that she began school under the pretense that her Federal Pell Grant would cover expenses owed until this loan went into effect. The loan was originally denied, at which point, she resigned from the school, unable to further pay for the education, however then the [redacted] loan all of a sudden was posted and applied to her tuition even though she no longer was attending class. I had been told by Financial Aid that the Pell Grant would cover everything and we would not owe any money. Months later I receive bills from [redacted] Lending wanting payment on over $1000 worth of loan that according to my understanding should not exist. I contact the school and they refuse to assist me as I am not "authorized" to discuss her account, yet my name is on the loan and they contact me for payment. They refuse to conference call the lender with me to get the matter resolved, the department head for Financial Aid never returns my calls and I am very frustrated as now this is affecting my credit score for a loan I was originally told never existed.Desired Settlement: I want Wyotech aka Corinthian Colleges to either contact [redacted] Lending with me in a conference call to resolve this issue once and for all, regardless of if I'm authorized to talk about the account or not, or to issue me a check to pay this [redacted] Loan in full as it should never have been processed if she was first denied the loan and then she resigned from school.

Response:

We received the complaint referenced above from [redacted] (“Complainant”). Wyotech Blairsville (the “School”) thanks the Revdex.com (the “Revdex.com”) for this opportunity to respond to Complainant’s concerns and hopes this response satisfactorily demonstrates the School’s appreciation of the Revdex.com’s principles and purposes. The School is pleased to provide the Revdex.com with additional information that it believes will be highly relevant to the Revdex.com’s evaluation of Complainant’s concerns and the appropriateness of the School’s response.

Complainant alleges that he cosigned for a [redacted] Loan for his significant other and due to processing timeframes the loan was applied to the account at a later than anticipated date. Complainant does not provide the name of the other student whom he cosigned for, but does provide a Student Request to Release Information form listing [redacted] as providing permission to release records to Complainant and the Revdex.com. Complainant claims that he was informed by the School that the Pell Grant would cover everything and he would not owe anything. Complainant claims that he received a bill for $1,000.00 for a loan that he believed should not exist.

The School does have records indicating that Complainant both attended the School for his own education, and also cosigned for a private [redacted] loan for another student. However, the Release form provided by Complainant, allegedly on behalf of Ms. [redacted], appears to be a fraudulent document. When compared with other documents the School is unable to verify that the signature on the release matches the student in question, Ms. [redacted]. Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (“FERPA”), the School cannot disclose any information involving another student to Complainant without written verifiable permission from the student. However in an effort to respond to Complainant’s statements, the School will provide information that solely relates to him and general information regarding his concerns.

The School can confirm that Complainant signed an agreement to be a co-borrower on a [redacted] loan on March 26, 2013. Despite any possible processing or funding delays, neither the primary borrower nor co-borrower (Complainant) opted out or canceled the [redacted] loan. Therefore the loan was processed and disbursed as planned. During the application process, Complainant signed loan documents including a Promissory Note [redacted] that specifically states that Complainant agreed to accept the funding and the responsibility for re-payment. As the funding was disbursed and the School was eligible to retain those funds to cover tuition costs, Complainant remains financially responsible for the loan, as a co-borrower, per his agreement with the lender. The School is unable to provide additional details on the current balance of the loan as the School is not the lender. If Complainant has additional questions regarding the status of the loan with [redacted] lending he is encouraged to contact [redacted] directly at ([redacted].

We thank the Revdex.com for this opportunity to address Complainant’s questions and concerns and to demonstrate the School’s commitment to the Revdex.com’s principles and purposes.
