Review: I am the owner of a 2006 Ford Explorer. I had been having trouble with the transmission shifting from second to third gear. February 25, 2014, I took my vehicle off to Cottman Transmission where electronic diagnostic analysis and a manual analysis of my vehiclewas performed. Within an hour, the inspection was complete and the store manager, [redacted] advised that I would need a rebuilt transmission. At the time he was unable quote a total price because he was not sure of what he would find inside of the transmission once it was disassembled. At that point I decided to leave my vehicle there for service. On March 8, 2014, I returned to Cottman to pick up my vehicle and was met by Manager [redacted]. Mr. [redacted] informed me that during a routine test drive he ran over a 26 board causing damage to my running boards. He then advised that he assessed the damage (both running boards were broken and unsafe for entering the vehicle) and estimated the repairs at $230.99 which would be the cost of both running boards alone. After further conversation, Mr. [redacted] assured me that the cost of the running boards should not exceed $230.99 and he would deduct the cost from my total balance to include the cost of the transmission work. Additionally, he informed me that once I purchased the boards he would replace them at no extra charge to me.After leaving Cottman transmission, I noticed issues with my vehicle that I did not have prior to dropping it off to shop. The hood of my car was bent, the doors were rubbing on the inside fender and the front molding was detached on both sides. On March 10, 2014 I took my vehicle to Pike's Collision Repair. Pike's performed and extensive evaluation of my vehicle and provided me an estimate for the damages I incurred from Cottmans which totaled $3,931.11. Because this is my only vehicle it will cost me an additional $204.44 for a car rental. Which brings me to a grand total of $4,135.55. The afternoon of March 10, 2014, I took my estimate to Mr. [redacted] who informed me that the owner refused to pay for the damages done to my vehicle. I requested to speak to the owner and was told by Mr. [redacted] that he has already been made aware of the situation. I left my information and requested to speak with the owner. To no avail, I have contacted two Cottmans shops in an attempted to discuss a resolution to this matter. Cottman transmission finally contacted me and their insurance company (Colonial Insurance) paid 2/3 of the estimate. The insurance company stated Randy Cato/Cottman transmission has a $1000.00 deductible and I would need to peruse him for the remaining 1/3 of the estimate that is owed. As before, I cannot get a response from him for the balance.Desired Settlement: I am requesting the remaining balance of the estimate.

Response:

This was simply an issue Mr. [redacted] and I not being able to get in touch with each other. Cottman has resolve this problem any issues have been resolved. I do want to apologize again for Mr. [redacted] for the lack of communication from Cottman.

Review: I have a standard transmission Dodge Dualie. The transmission lost fifth gear on my trip to New Orleans. The truck had 95670 miles on it when it was "repaired" by Cottmann Transmission and they charged $2646.73. At 99025 miles the exact same problem happened with my truck. Cottmann warranted the repair but no one ever explained why it broke again so quickly. Now that I have 103450 miles on this truck it happened a third time. This time the company not only replaced the nut that came loose they replaced the shaft as well. The thing is they did more work and only charged $1050.53. This is less than half of the original charge that didn't do as much and which later broke twice. I believe that this company saw we were from out of state and gouged us by charging an excessive amount to NOT repair our vehicle. We expect a refund of the excessive charge and an explanation why this repair was required three times in merely 7780 miles.Desired Settlement: We expect a refund of the excessive charge and an explanation why this repair was required three times in merely 7780 miles.
