My experience with Customized Builders started with ** B*** convincing me that he would be able to finish the work in two weeks After he got in he managed to suggest change orders and start work without me agreeing to them or giving me a quoteSeveral times during the project I'd get "surprise" invoices for tens of thousand of dollars that we did not agree to in advance, even though that's what the original contract specified
He did not have sub contractors that he knew and trustedInstead he'd hire strangers off the street to come into my house He gave my garage door password to a guy that had eight felony convictions on his record and had only been out of jail for a few years
Several of the subcontractors went unpaid and I had to go to court three times to get it all resolved I know there are more contractors that have never been paid too (the engineers) but thankfully I'm out of the loop on that issue because that's how mechanic's leans work
Overall his "two week" project stretched to four monthsThe reason you hire a general contractor is that they have the contacts to hire the right subs and they will save you time by managing the project He failed on every count and the project, while ultimately finished, was a three month long nightmare to live through They still have odds and ends unfinished but to be honest, they aren't welcome in my house anymore
One more note, I nearly had them build a shop for me too before I realized how poorly things were going They gave me a quote and started demolition on an existing structure Without notice they doubled the quote without any changes to the project so I had them stop They left me with a big pile of trash and a partially demo'd building that was better before they got there
This company is a nightmare

I hired Customized Builders to build a garage. It has almost been a year and it is still not complete when we were told it would be within 4 months. We signed an agreement and made the first payment to CB in Feb 2015. From the start the project was poorly managed and delayed. [redacted] had me work with a designer on plans and then complained how expensive the plans were. I was disappointed how the process was communicated and handled. After weeks and weeks of working on the plans with very little involvement from [redacted], work started to progress. After the foundation was poured and inspected the framing started, I was asked to pay the second payment installment (July) at the time the roof was to go on. I paid over $40K and immediately all work stopped. For months I sent text and made phone calls and was told "I am coming and bringing an army of people to finish the job". By September I called [redacted] in a panic and asked what was going on and told him to come meet with me. He told me he was dealing with a $100K check that bounced but now was back on track. I was promised that my garage would be complete by Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving came in went, I still saw very little progress on my garage. One thing he did do was to start wiring and installing HVAC. But since the structure had no roof and we have had tons of rain, the HVAC ducking is completely soaked and ruined and needs to be completely replaced. I have no idea if the wiring is safe and if water is in it. I hired a lawyer and tried to learn what legal actions I could take. I took another shot at working with [redacted] and asked him to sit down with me and together we put a project plan together with milestone dates and laid out a penalty of $100 a day for each missed milestone with a final due date of 1 Feb. I gave him another $10K to complete the project. He continues to call me asking for more money. He has 10 days left to meet the 1 Feb deadline. I still don't have a roof, windows, HVAC, electrical, flooring, drywall, paint....anything that I was promised.I was promised high quality and a fast delivery and am receiving neither.Desired SettlementEither:1. Finish the job on time (by 1 Feb) which is highly unlikely to happen.2. Finish the job in the next 30 days and pay the late penalties that you agreed to in November.3. Walk away from the project and refund a portion of my money so that I can finish the project with another builder and pay me the penalties you agreed to in November.

The builder keeps delaying his own promises of timelines to deliver jobs over and over for the projectThe builder promised my project would take a month or at best one and a half months. However, 3 months and 10 days passed since the start of the project. At one point, the builder said two weeks of jobs left, which are still going on into the sixth (?) week, and still I don't know when the builder is able to finish the project because he hasn't honored his own timelines to deliver jobs.. almost every job - He can't even guarantee tomorrow's work. He doesn't seem to have enough resources to handle my project.Desired SettlementFinish the job by Nov 20. Otherwise, I will hire the subcontractors myself to finish the job at the builder's cost. The Customized Builders resolved the issue the following week and was able to close the project the week after.

I paid CB $21,658. They abandoned me after concrete drive, framing, electrical, shingles (improperly) and a little labor. I spent $12,546 to complete.[redacted]Let's compare notes. We contracted with Customize Builders for several projects We paid them they never paid the sub contractors. Liens are now placed on our property. We contracted with Customized Builders to complete a two car garage and two bath rooms. We paid for completion of this work only to discover that they never paid sub-contractosr which in turn the sub-contractor have placed liens on our property. The first lien was placed by the company that did the brick work and the second lien was placed the company that did the sheet rock. We only discovered the by trying extend our home equity line of credit to complete repairs in the basement which was flooded due to the company(CB) not back filling around the garage area which all the carpet and walls and furniture. /////Desired SettlementWe need for the company to pay whoever they hired to do the work. so this does not remain on our credit report. /////
