We rented a home to spend the Thanksgiving holiday with family from [redacted] through an online rental site, [redacted]. Upon arrival at 7:30 PM on Sunday November Nov.24th, after driving twelve hours, we found the home to be uninhabitable by any standards. The home was filthy and in complete disrepair including: filth and grime build up on the appliances and floor surfaces, a toilet leaking waste water on the floor, dirty towels with black hair, bugs, mouse droppings, broken ceramic floor tiles, faulty electrical switches with electrical tape dangling from the switch plates...and the list goes on.We called to inform [redacted] of the homes condition, he offered to bring the cleaning company back the next day. When we described the over all condition of the home needing repairs and a weeks worth of cleaning, he scoffed. We emailed pictures that clearly show all that is described above with an message asking his intent or plan. Meanwhile, we were forced to find a hotel to accommodate three adults and two dogs. We sent emails and called but did not hear from him until 48 hours later in an email. After two nights in a hotel, we rented another home for our family Thanksgiving holiday. We were in [redacted]'s rental home for half hour while determining where to relocate. We have asked for a full refund, however, he has only offered two days rent and, believe it or not, cleaning fee. We are requesting a full refund because we had to spend an additional $4,000 to accommodate the situation and our family.Additionally, while in the process of trying to find accommodations, it was brought to our attention the the subject rental house was in foreclosure at the time Mr. [redacted] took our deposit and subsquent paymen in full, possibly the reason the house was in such disrepair.We believe that the owner is in breech of contract and falsely represented this home in the rental market and could possibly have code issues.
