Dentistry of Monroeville

Review: I received a dental checkup in March, 2014. I was in the process of considering a couple dental providers on doing the work that I needed. I had previously received a itemized assessment from another provider at no costs. When I called The Dentistry to inquired, I told them that I wanted an assessment of the dental work I needed for this purpose. They asked me for my medical insurance carrier information which I provided them. A day or so later they called me back to schedule the appointment and informed me that my insurance carrier would take care of any costs. When I went in for my appointment, they again assured me that the insurance would cover any costs. In July 2014, The Dentistry billed me $145.00 for the cost of their service. I called their office and was told to call my insurance carrier and they would change my policy retroactive to the service being rendered. I called and my insurance carrier told me that I couldn't change the policy until the open enrollment period that will begin in November. I called The Dentistry back and they said that they would get back to me. I received another bill. I called again and talked to MJ who told me that they could charge me more because the fee they billed me was actually the amount they bill insurance and not private individual. I've sent two letters to The Dentistry regarding this matter. Since, I talked to another customer service person at The Dentistry who told me if I didn't pay it they would just eventually file a judgement against me in court. I am very disappointed in the attitude of the customer service people whom I have talked to and I feel that I have been taken advantage of because I didn't have the opportunity to determine whether I wanted the service based on the cost. I don't believe they were knowledgable of the Portable Care Act insurers policies and apparently did not contact the carrier in advance as I thought they had.Desired Settlement: No costs billed to me because someone on their staff did not contact the insurance carrier for clarification of the coverage.
