Detail & Body Works By Frank Reviews (%countItem)

I brought a full body kit to have installed, molded and painted on a 93 Acura Legend. Also Frank was to install and make turn signal lights fit
After talking with Frank for about 2 months, we agreed on a price to do the work on 93 Acura Legend, Franks agreed to install full body kit, Mold some parts that are required, install front signal lights that needed to be fitted and a-fixed in the kit. some very light body work on the hood and doors, We also talked about Frank doing some modification to the trunk, for some led lights. and paint the car (I provide the pearl color ), black base and clear the shop already had. We agreed on all the price of 2,650.(I paid half with a check, the last half was cash) So when I drop car off on 06/01/18 with 1.250 deposit I asked him to take his time on the work, in 4 days later he called me after 6pm on 06/05/18 to come pick up the car he was finished. When me and my tow truck driver looked at the "finished product" it was not what I paid for. So I didn't take the car home until he fixed the issues on the car. The rear kit had to be re sanded and painted, and it's still not on where it should be .It's not symmetrical like it should be. The side skirts where half painted I still can see primer on what was supposed to be finished, The clear used on the car is not consistent, light in some places, when I brought this to his attention he didn't allow me to speak to him anymore.

Desired Outcome

I won't at least 70 percent of my money back, I don't wish to speak with him anymore.

I had an accident in my 2012 Mercedes Benz on August 31st in Columbia, SC. My vehicle was towed to Details and Bodyworks by Frank on September 1st. The insurance adjuster came to look at the vehicle on September 5th at which that time Frank and the adjuster broke down the vehicle without my authorization. Farm Bureau, my insurance company estimate was for $12,204.26 worth of damage. For the next few days I received repeated calls from Frank asking had I received the payment. When I finally did receive the payment he insisted on me wiring it to him. He indicated to me that he needed me to wire him the entire amount so that he could order parts and begin working on the vehicle as he did not have any relationships with part distributors and he would be paying for the parts out of pocket. This sounded odd to me as I had never heard of any mechanic requesting money up front for services not yet rendered nor had I determined if that was where I wanted to have my vehicle repaired, which is why the insurance company made the check out to me directly. I expressed my concerns to Frank who indicated that he did not like to conduct business over the phone and that any discussion regarding my vehicle would have to be face to face. This proved fairly difficult as I reside in Charlotte, NC and his shop is in Columbia, SC. I drove down to the shop on September 15th with plans of notifying Frank that I was having my vehicle moved from the shop due to lack of professionalism and integrity concerns. Frank would not release the vehicle to me indicating that I owed him $4,500 dollars for breaking the vehicle down, towing and storage fees. I informed him that that was absurd as the estimate indicated that the most he was owed was $3,170 and that was only if he did the labor and painting framing and so forth. I told him I was not paying him $4,500 dollars and immediately called my insurance company.
The insurance representative that was working on my claim told me that in order to acquire my vehicle that I had to pay him whatever he said I owed. The insurance company also said that because of him furnishing them with a tow receipt of which he would not provide me a copy, they would not come tow the vehicle to another shop as they had already paid for the tow to his shop. At this point I had no choice but to pay Frank in order to get my vehicle. Frank then said that he would disregard the fees and fix the car for a total of $5,000. He wrote out a contract that stated that I agreed to order all my parts and that he would complete the repairs for $4,000 cash due upfront and the remaining $1,000 due at the time of repair completion otherwise I would be charged $75 a day for storage fee.
I began ordering my parts on September 18th. I contacted Frank on September 19th or 20th and informed him that Mercedes would be dropping off the rear bumper and that he needed to give them the old bumper as there was a $150 core charge at which time he indicated to me that he threw the bumper away. I asked him why would he do that without consulting me first of which he replied that he needed to clean his shop and he is not a junkyard. With the exception of the grill, all the parts arrived to Frank and were signed for by Frank's shop by September 21st. I contacted Frank to confirm this on Friday September 22nd at which time he indicated to me that the vehicle was ready and fixed. I said that's impossible as you just received the majority of the parts this week and the grill has not even arrived yet, not to mention the car is a Mercedes Benz and there was $12,000 worth of damage. He insisted that it was ready and that I needed to pick up the car today or he would begin charging me $75 a day. I asked him what time would he be closing today and he indicated 6pm. I told him that being that it was 3pm and I don't get off work until 5pm and I work in Charlotte that with traffic there was no way I could make it to him by 6pm. I also indicated that he was being unreasonable and unfair charging me additional storage given that ample notice was not provided. I told him the earliest I could be there was the next morning on Saturday September 23rd. He indicated that he was going out of town and his shop would be closed therefore I would have to pick it up Monday and pay for the weekend storage. Later that day in disbelief I had a friend contact the shop to inquire if they were open or closed on Saturday of which Frank indicated to them that he was open. My friend and I drove down to the shop on Saturday morning and it was open an operational. I parked in the back and we proceeded to enter the shop from the back door like I had done countless times before. Frank came out of his office and yelled at us to not walk thru his shop and for us to walk thru the front of the shop. When we walked back in, he was not in sight and we proceeded to walk in and he come out of the office and told us to go into his office. My friend walked in front of me, as she sat down, Frank said 'Boy close the door boy'. Given his body language, and tone I didn't felt comfortable been locked up in a room with him. Frank then said get out of my shop, and he kept saying 'Boy not today boy'. We just stood there looking at him in total disbelief and he picked up the phone and called 911. He told the 911 Operator that we were trespassing and that he wanted them to send someone to remove us from his premises, the part of the conversation we heard, was 'I don't know what color he is, I don't know, he might have a gun, his hands are in his pocket, send someone soon'. After he finished on the phone he proceeded to call his towing person and asked them to come and tow my friend's car from his property. I started to walk out of his office and my friend said to him 'you do realize that I'm in the room and I'm a witness to your behavior and lies'. At that point I told her to let's just move the car and wait for the cops outside of his shop. I also called the police. When the p
