Was asked to speak to financial aid supervisor was told she was not on hand physically to speak to, as she was located at headquarters
Was told that my GED diploma was not accepted, bot by management within that department. I was told that the school did not take my GED diploma. No supervisor spoke to me about it, the financial aid officers spoke to me about it. I asked for their manager which she is located somewhere else.
Head supervisor explain why GED diploma cannot be used
Thank you for providing us an opportunity to respond to the concerns expressed by the consumer. We take any concern very seriously.
As a post-secondary institution, we are prohibited by federal law from admitting any student that does not possess a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent. For a high school diploma to be considered valid, the high school must be recognized by the state where the school is located. When completing official admissions paperwork, the consumer stated that he graduated from Frederick Douglas High School in New Orleans. During out standard review of applications, it was revealed that this high school did not appear on the list of state recognized high schools. After further research, it was determined that the school closed several years ago. Our financial aid office requested, via e-mail, that the consumer provide additional information to demonstrate that he attended Frederick Douglas High School and that it was a school recognized by the State of Louisiana. In response to this request for additional documentation, the consumer submitted a transcript and a diploma for a completely different school- Apostolic Lighthouse Christian Academy in Jackson, LA.
This present two critical issues. First, the consumer provided conflicting information regarding the high school he attended and graduated from. Despite this conflicting information, we were not able to verify that Apostolic Lighthouse Christian Academy is recognized by the State of Louisiana. Based on our exhaustive research, including a review of the 2017-2018 and the 2016-2017 Nonpublic School Academic Classifications list published by the State of Louisiana, it does not appear that this high school is a recognized high school for federal law purposes.
As outlined above, we spent a great deal of time looking into this issue to determine whether the consumer was applicable for admission under federal law. While we have no record of the consumer's attempts to speak with a supervisor, we are happy to arrange for a phone conference with the consumer and the Director of Financial Aid.
