Don Juan's Tuxedo Warehouse Reviews (3)

Review: I took in my Army ASU jacket to have the shoulder straps sewn on, gave them an instructions card with step by step details of how to perform the job and even demonstrated how it should look when complete. When I returned to pick it up it was blatantly incorrect. I again told them to reference the instructions and demonstrated how it should look when done. I went in a total of six times, each time it was done wrong, and twice it appeared as though they had not even tried to fix the mistake from last time. The damage from their lazy and haphazard work has rendered my brand new jacket unwearable. When I asked for a refund, the tailor was very rude and when I pointed out the damages caused to the jacket he threatened me, saying he would "teach me a lesson" if I continued. He also refused to give me a refund for the job that he did not do. Now I have a brand new jacket that is unwearable and have paid the tailor for a job that he did not do and was refused a refund.Desired Settlement: I would like a full refund of the services I paid for that the tailor failed to perform as well as for them to replace the jacket that they ruined.

I went in to Don Juan June 4th to have a bridesmaids dress altered for an out of town wedding on July 3rd. I googled “tailors Spokane wa” and Don Juan’s place came up near me and with great ratings, so I figured it was a win-win. I tried the dress on for the tailor and while he was taking measurements he went on about how it was his calling in life to make women look nice, feel beautiful and be comfortable. He suggested I have him put a push-up bra in my dress so I wouldn’t have to wear a strapless bra and it would look more elegant over all. He pointed out other areas that needed fixed. The grand total came to $237. My heart stopped. I had no idea having anything altered cost this much. I doubted the dress even cost that much. He said if I wore heals, he wouldn’t have to hem the length and that brought the total to $187. $187 still made me quiver, but the dress did need altered and I figured it would be worth it. I paid upfront as he requires and he gave me a ticket with the date I was to come in for a final fitting. That date was June 26th and on that day I got a phone call saying the dress was not done and to come in the following Monday. On Monday, his wife was at the counter and told me my dress was still not ready, but that Don Juan was very busy with a ‘high-end’ customer and that he was not to be bothered. I started to stress, because I was leaving town the next day. She assured me the dress would be done and to call early the next morning. I came to terms with the fact that there was going to be no ‘final fitting’. I was irritated that I wouldn’t have an option for final adjustments. My dress was not finished until the end of the following business day. Had my husband not been traveling separate from myself, I would have had to either change travel plans or not be a bridesmaid. But…the dress managed to make it to the wedding in the nick of time.
When I went to put the dress on, I could't get my legs through the bottom. It was as if he'd sewn it shut. I had to work my arm through twisted material until I could find an opening. Once I realized there was in fact an opening for my legs, I had to force them through the tiny opening. Once I got it on, I felt like a mermaid. I couldn't open my thighs or move my heels apart from one another. The brides’ mother is a seamstress and she could not figure out what this man had done. The whole bottom, inside portion of the dress was twisted and made no sense whatsoever. Once on, the side seems of the dress around my hips bubbled in waves and had open seems. I paid $38 for him to take in the upper bodice around my [redacted], where the material curled out exposing the inner silk of the dress. This had not been done. I felt for my pushup bra. I felt thin foam that reminded me of maybe shoulder pads from the 80’s? Definitely NOT a push up bra. All of these flaws were things that I had hired him to fix, things that I paid $187 and were not done. The dress looked just as it did when I brought it in, except that he had sewn the bottom shut and added a hook to the back so it would zip up properly. I couldn’t walk in the thing. The other bridesmaids helped me find a way to roll the twisted bottom up so I could pin it and move my legs.
Long, crappy, uncomfortable story short, for $187 this man ruined my dress and ruined my time at the wedding. I couldn’t dance, because I couldn’t comfortably move. I was so upset. The job Don Juan did was atrocious. I came to find out too that his rates were exorbitant. The whole thing was absurd.
I deserved a refund. I remember seeing a sign on his wall that read “no refunds”, but his undeniably horrendous job warranted one. Surely he would agree. He ripped me off and he ruined my time. When I got back Spokane, I went into his shop. His wife had me try the dress on. She couldn’t figure out what Don Juan did. Neither could Don Juan. He told me to take the dress off and he would fix it. I told him there was no point for him to fix it, I would never wear the dress again and that I wanted my money back. He said he doesn’t do refunds, but that he does guarantee his work. “I hired you to fix a dress for an event that occurred on July 3rd. You failed to have the dress done in time for a fitting and you sent out a final product that I couldn’t even slip my legs into. You didn’t do the job I hired you for. I want my money back”. He missed my point entirely. Either he was playing dumb or he really is dumb, but he took my dress from me and wandered around the shop looking for scissors to fix it. He would not give me the dress back, despite me telling him firmly, NOT TO FIX THE DRESS and to give it back to me. He finally set it down behind the counter, in which I took it and left out the door. I left him my phone number and said if he wanted to do the right thing, he could give me a call. I’ve of course not heard from him.

Review: I took two suits to the business to have the jackets altered. I received the first jacket back, and the sleeves were completely destroyed. The seams were puckered and clearly sewn on improperly. Next, the vents at the bottom of the jacket were all uneven. This is an $800 suit. I brought the defect to the attention of the lady who runs the business and she told me it would steam out. I brought the suit to the place I bought it and asked them to steam it. Their tailor immediately called me to tell me that this wasn't an issue that would steam out, but that the tailor who altered the jacket did it improperly.

I went back to Don Juan's and discussed this with the lady I originally worked with (her husband is the tailor). She then claimed that the damage to the sleeves was done by the other tailor who was going to steam it out in an attempt to "bad mouth" her business. She also took the jacket apart and started pointing out seams and telling me that this wasn't her sewing. I mentioned to her that I brought the issues up when I picked the jacket up, but she denied ever telling me that they would steam out.

The lady refused to help, and even refused to refund the $60 I paid for alterations. So now I am out an $860 for a suit and alterations.

As for the second jacket, I told her I didn't want her to touch any more of my clothing. She gave me the jacket back (she had undone some seams but had not altered the jacket), but again refused to give me any money back.

I called my credit card immediately to dispute the charges for the alterations, which they are currently investigating. I have no doubt that they will refund my charges, but my main concern right now is having the destroyed suit replaced.Desired Settlement: I want a new suit. I can get the second jacket repaired, but the first is damaged beyond repair.

This is a similar suit to the one I purchased, although a slightly different color.

NOTE: the jacket in question is currently on sale. The regular price is $795, but is currently marked down to $275.
