Dr. Margo Boler Reviews (1)

I was told after getting a Glasses RX for my son, [redacted] that I had to pay an additional $30 for a Contacts RX and what a scam - total rip off. After paying $30 for the Contacts RX, I made another appointment for a Contacts RX and received the exact same prescription I had already rec'd for the Glasses RX. I demand a refund of $50 for the exam fee ($30) and inconvenience ($20) to: [redacted] you have my address. I was told by my son [redacted] and [redacted] that another exam was not performed; someone simply filled out the back of a business card with the same RX.Product_Or_Service: Contacts RXDesired SettlementI demand a refund of $50 for a Contacts RX and inconvenience caused by your demand that was not necessary because it was exactly the same as the Glasses RX I had already received. My son, [redacted], and I was inconvenienced.Business Response Your opinion is very important to our office. As we discussed previously over the phone, the charge for a contact fit and evaluation is $30 more than the glasses exam. The doctor working that day evaluated your son's chart from the previous eye exam visit to decide what contact brand would fit his eye the best and then had the technician pull those lenses for him to insert. Then, he was taken from the contact room to the exam room where he read the chart to the 20/20 line with each eye individually. Then, the doctor looked at the lenses on his eyes with the microscope to check the fit of the contacts. After that she discussed with him the comfort of the lens and the wear time and cleaning schedule. She remembers answering several questions from both your son and husband. All of this was done before she wrote the contact Rx on the card for him. If you would like to have a copy of what was done I would be happy to mail it to you.I understand there can be some confusion when looking at the two prescriptions side by side and seeing the same numbers written on them, but they are not exactly the same. The glasses power and contact power can sometimes end up being the same but there are many differences between the two Rxs. The contact prescription will have the brand of contacts, the base curve of the brand of contacts, and the diameter of the contacts in addition to the power. Even if the numbers are the same as the glasses, the contact power still has to be checked with the contacts on the patient's eye to evaluate the fit and vision through the contacts themselves. Contacts are a federally regulated medical device and we are required by law to check all the items above before writing the contact Rx for the patient.I hope this clears up any confusion about his visit. We would never want our patients thinking they were scammed in any way. But, the fee was charged correctly and is a usual and customary fee for a contact evaluation charged by optometrists. This fee also covers any other contact changes or visits for 60 days from the original fit.We will not be able to refund for the visit. Your son was fit in contacts, given a trial pair, evaluated and given a contact Rx. Without this Rx he will not be able to purchase contacts with only a glasses Rx.
