I began my current weight loss journey Oct. 1. 2017. In that time I have lost 42 pounds, but more importantly I have found a healthier way to eat and manage my weight. I am 17.6 pounds away from my goal and I feel confident that I will reach that goal. More importantly to me though is the feeling that I have learned a way to maintain that goal when I achieve it. Along this journey I have also seen an increase in my overall physical well being. I am fortunate to have enjoyed good health even at my heaviest, but I now feel I have improved the likelihood that this good health will continue. I had both of my knees replaced two years ago. I recovered very well and continued to have good use of my knees, but since my weight loss I have seen an amazing increase in my mobility. I have no trouble keeping up with my very active 3 year old grandson! I have lost weight in the past, but have never been able to maintain. I believe the lessons I have learned about healthy foods and eating habits has prepared me to maintain this weight loss. It has been an eye opening experience to realize how many empty calories had been a part of my eating before. I am satisfied with the foods I eat and feel I have the ability to choose foods that I enjoy. As you look at the date I started this journey you will note that I had to follow this new eating routine through two of the most challenging “food” holidays – Thanksgiving and Christmas. I was able to do it and not feel at all deprived. I know I look better, but more importantly I feel better! Friends and family have all commented on the change in my physical appearance, but I am most proud of how this journey has made me a healthier person with a very positive outlook on my life as I enter this stage of my life.
