On Monday, 9/21, I went to Drivers Edge on Glade and 121 in Grapevine, TX. I wanted an oil change, state inspection and to have the car checked out for a long road trip. They were advertising a free wheel alignment check with an oil change and suggested I do that. They ran the test and told me my car needed a wheel alignment. They couldn't show me the test results because their printer was "broken". They also told me I needed the brake fluid replaced, so I reluctantly agreed.
They also told me I needed to rotate my tires because the car is front wheel drive and the tires with the most tread should be at the front of the car. When I told them I would go to Discount Tires for that, they told me they do the wheel alignments for them. I again reluctantly agreed to the wheel alignment because I was concerned about the car's reliability for the long trip. They completed the alignment In less than 10 minutes, telling me the car was just a little "pidgeon-toed" so it didn't take long to align it.
After examining my invoice and thinking through the ridiculous claims they had made, I went back to Drivers Edge the next morning and told them they had charged me for rotating my tires which they didn't do (just had to look at the tires), lied to me about being recommended by Discount Tires (I called and Discount Tires does NOT recommend them) and scammed me about aligning my wheels. There was also a bogus charge for "supplies" that they explained is for shop towels, etc.
They agreed to refund the charge for rotating the tires. After I asked for the corporate manager's name and email address, one of the assistant managers wanted to "make things right" and agreed to also refund the money for the alignment and supplies. They have to submit a form to their corporate office who then sends the refund. I told him to send me a confirmation email with a copy of the form, which he did.
I wrote an online post about my experience with this Drivers Edge on a site where over 1000 residences in the surrounding neighborhoods are members. In the next few days over 10 people replied that they had similar experiences or worse with this location. One stated that this location has a history of ripping off customers.
