Drs. Reiter, Hill, Johnson & Nevin Reviews (1)

Review: The worst experience I've ever had seeing a medical professions was at this doctor's DC location. When making my appointment on the phone I clearly explained my reasons for coming in, two to be exact. One was taken care of during that visit the other required a special appointment for which I was not informed when I made the appointment with the front desk staff. The day I met with the nurse practitioner she spoke over me while I was speaking and had a very bad bedside manner. She did not ask me many questions. She did take care of my first issue during this visit. My second reason for the visit was pain that I had been having for months. She told me she was having TWO lab tests done. I left the visit feeling like I'd pretty much shared my concerns with a wall. To my surprise and frustration I then received TWO invoices from this Lab for FIVE tests. Three of these tests I was not made aware were being performed. I reached out to this office for more than a week. After 3 or 4 days of calling, I tried to speak with the office manager, who passed me off to someone else. I sent this woman copies of both my bills on a Monday. She did not write back to my email until that Friday. This office does not want to claim responsibility for not making me aware of all they were testing me for. I asked that they cover the three tests that I did not authorize. Although the nurse practitioner may have felt they were necessary tests it should have been communicated to me during my visit. I should have been informed. I have the right to decline tests done on myself. I was not given this opportunity. All the tests came back negative. I have no answers and now two bills that are due. The office has only offered to write a letter of appeal to my insurance, trying to get the insurance company to pay for their own mistake. This type of care and business practices should be unacceptable.Desired Settlement: I want Reiter Hill Johnson and Nevin to reimburse me for the three tests I was not made aware we're being performed. The total for these three tests is $57.90.

April 21, 2014To Whom It May Concern; Please accept this letter in response to your letter of April , 2014, in reference to the abovelisted ID number. The patient presented to our office on January 20, 2014, with two medical complaints. The patient was actually seen by one of our Advanced Care Practitioners, not Dr. [redacted], to whom your letter was addressed. The first medical complaint was handled, seemingly to the patients satisfaction. The second medical complaint required additional testing. Based upon the information provided by the patient, the provider ordered the clinically appropriate lab work. In doing so, one test always contains two distinct tests that are performed. Those tests are never mutually exclusive, but rather always performed together. The lab chose to bill the patient for both tests separately. The second test ordered was actually a panel containing three different tests. Again, the lab, at their discretion chose to unbundle the panel and bill the patient for all three tests separately. As a result, the patient was billed for a total offive tests. All five tests were fully medically indicated based upon the symptoms expressed by the patient. In further reviewing this chart, it is apparent that our office submitted all lab work with the appropriate diagnosis codes. It is apparent that my staff has had numerous contacts via telephone and email with the patient to assist with resolving the patients concern. Due to the fact that the lab, rather than this office, billed the patients insurance, we have suggested that the patient contact the lab as well as her insurance company. While I understand the patients frustration, I feel that our office has acted in a medically appropriate and professional manner, both during the patients visit based upon the medical complaints she shared as well as during further follow-up conversations via telephone and email.Thank you for the opportunity to respond to your inquiry,

I am rejecting this response because: My complaint is NOT that she felt they were medically necessary and wanted to do the lab work. My complaint is that I was not aware of ALL that were being preformed. She only told me of two, which were billed together. The three I was unaware of were billed separate. It is unprofessional and a poor practice to not inform a patient of everything being tested for. If your nurse practitioner had told me of everything being done I would have known. I then could have decided if I wanted her to do all of the testing.
