Our office is in receipt of your letter dated February 28, The customer hired ourcompany to install a 20KW generator to power her home in the event of a power outageThetechnician who sized the generator was not aware that the furnace circuit had previously beenrelocated to the garage to
power the furnaceThere is a separate service (another meter) to thegarage which is not uncommonGarage services are typically installed because the homeownerhas a higher demand for electric to power workshop equipment etcThe generator that weinstalled is a whole house generatorPower is generated and delivered to the house panel only. The customer contacted our office late last year (November, I believe) and stated that she neededher generator servicedShe also stated that the generator hasn't operated for monthsI spokewith our office personnel and they do not recall receiving a call from the customer prior to that. Our technician was dispatched to diagnose the problemUpon arrival, the technician found thebattery dead and the transfer switch was not providing the battery charging circuitFurtherdiagnosis revealed that a component that delivers the battery charge had failedThe componentwas replaced and the customer received a replacement batteryThe generator was still underwarranty at this time. The customer advised the technician that her furnace was not hooked up to the house panel andwould not work during a power outageThis was the first time that the technician on site wasmade aware of the issueThe customer further stated that her furnace recently failed and she hadto install a new oneA new circuit was installed from the garage to the new circuitThis circuitwas installed quite some time after we had installed the generator to power her home.We offered a solution that was not part of the original scope of installing the generatorThecustomer's home panel was completely full and only had 100AMP serviceThe proposalincluded increasing the service to 200AMP and relocating the furnace circuit from the garage tothe houseThis would of simplified the issue and the generator would of powered the furnace.(with an additional load shed feature added.)The customer stated the she hired another contractor to perform the same project we proposed. We performed the original generator installation based on the information that was madeavailable to us by the customerThe furnace circuit in the garage was not disclosed until afterthe project was completed and we returned to service the unitBased on my inquiry to ouroffice personnel, they had not received any calls from the customer stating that this furnace wasan issueThe customer is asking for reimbursement for the same service we were willing toprovideWe regrettably dispute the request for reimbursement simply because, we proposed toaddress the issue that she chose to award another contractor.Thank you for your time and considerationShould you have any questions, please do nothesitate to contact me at ###-###-####.Sincerely,Aaron F* Service ManagerEd Green Electric
