August 04, Dear *** ***,We appreciate hearing from you regarding your Empire Turkey.Non-kosher producers get the feathers off of their turkeys by scalding therm in very hot waterFrom a kosher perspective, this "pre-cooking" your turkey before it even gets to your home
Kosher requirements prohibit scalding turkeys in hot water, so we use mechanical picking machines to remove most of the feathersWe have inspectors who pick remaining feathers by hand, but they may miss a few here and there especially during a season when turkeys are in such high demandRest assured, your turkey is still USDA inspected and approvedWe wash our turkeys in cold water only, using spring water from our own wellsUsing cold water actually minimizes bacteria and cross-contamination which may occur in hot waterUsing cold water throughout our process is part of what gives our turkeys the freshest look and taste.We apologize for the experience you and your family had with the product and would like to restore your faith in Empire, Enclosed is a coupon for our sincere apologies for your experience,

Review: I bought an Empire Kosher turkey at [redacted] of East Windsor in NJ for $51.30. It was dirty, full of fat, dried out and inedible.
I contacted Empire's consumer phone and called and left a message. I received no response and then contacted them on their web site. After repeated attempts, I finally got an answer that they were going to send me a rebate certificate. That was on June 21 and I have yet to receive it although I have e-mailed them several times.
It seems that they do not respond to phone calls or e--mails and completely ignore their customersDesired Settlement: A refund of amount paid and an apology from ignoring their customers.
