Review: On October **, 2015 when the temperature dropped to the 30’s, my recently installed ICE-AIR HVAC unit failed to produce any heat; we had NO HEAT in one room all week-end. On October **, 2015, I called the vendor FIVE BOROUGH HVAC (FB) regarding my brand-new $2,800 unit which was purchased from and installed by FB on September *, 2015, and for which a 1-year warranty is, or should be, in effect. A very rude FB technician named Erie arrived on October ** to look at the unit. Upon taking a quick look, Erie declared that the motorized valve and interlock sensor are broken or needed replacement, which he declared FB is not responsible for and therefore is not covered in the warranty or guarantee of the unit. Yet, during the day of the unit installation in September, FB failed to inform us that the motorized valve and interlock sensor were broken. Moreover, when we asked Erie basic questions (to understand why or how the motorized valve was NOT included in their “ICE-AIR HVAC” unit), ERIE, in a very rude and totally unprofessional manner, said he was “walking out“ as he did not want to answer any questions. We called up FB to complain about the rudeness of Erie and to ask why it was never explained to us that the $2,800 ICE-AIR HVAC unit did NOT include the motorized valve to turn on the heat. FB informed us that the cost of installing the motorized valve would be an additional $1,800 for the part and labor.

We contacted another HVAC company, HAMILTON AIR (HA), who quoted us approximately $500 for the part (motorized valve @ $193 plus sales tax) and labor. On October **, HAMILTON installed the new motorized valve and interlock sensory, charging me a total of $510.07, as the total bill.

However, the heat still could NOT go on because HAMILTON found a defective SWITCH on new ICE-AIR HVAC unit installed by FB. We called FB once again to report that the unit had a DEFECTIVE SWITCH (as this was part of the “ICE-AIR HVAC” unit). This time, Ran, who said he was the FB owner, refused to fix the unit or provide us with any further service -- since we brought in another vendor (HAMILTON AIR) to install the motorized valve (for which I was charged less than a third of FB quotation of $1,800), and even though the motorized valve is separate from and has nothing to do with the “ICE-AIR HVAC” purchased from and installed by FB. Thus, FB is currently refusing to provide any further service or honor their warranty because another company, HAMILTON AIR, installed a part which was NOT EVEN included in FB’s original installation of the ICE-AIR HVAC.

Given FB’s refusal to stand by their guarantee on their defective SWITCH -- which is part of FB’s ICE-AIR HVAC installed unit, we, once again called HAMILTON AIR. On October **, HAMILTON AIR quoted, repaired and charged us a total amount of $244.00.
