Merchant demanded ID for signed[redacted] credit card and copied down Driver License number onto store copy of receipt.Went in to make a $40 purchase from Games Plus, on March 16th around 4PM CST, rough time. The gentleman running the counter proceeded to get my games from the back room and while taking my payment, he requested my ID, which I am okay with, however, I was using my[redacted] credit card, which was signed. I know most merchants are fairly ignorant to the[redacted] policies they agreed to when accepting[redacted] cards, you are not required to provide ID for a signed credit card, so I agreed and provided my driver license to complete the transaction. He proceeded to write down my driver license number on the store copy of the receipt! He said this was required for all purchases made with a credit card! This is completely unacceptable and an invasion of privacy! I have contacted[redacted] regarding this issue as well and they have filed a complaint from their end.I am shocked a business would be allowed to copy down a driver license number to complete a transaction, I am very concerned about my privacy and feel this is an unethical if not partially illegal activity.Desired SettlementI would like for the merchant to adhere to policies and procedures they accepted while taking [redacted] credit cards as well as local state and federal laws governing the requirement of writing down a driver license number to make a purchase. Business Response Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)This response is unbelievably hostile. I'm amazed any business that claims to have had no issues like this is the last 20 years would respond to ANY client in such a manner. While I understand their policy is to check ID, as stated, I know a lot of companies ignorantly do this, despite violating the terms and conditions of the [redacted] and [redacted] holders. However, that issue has already been addressed and escalated within [redacted] and [redacted]'s merchant complaint department. It is unacceptable to copy down someone's driver license or identification number onto a receipt. Which is the real issue. Mr. [redacted], is absolutely correct, I provided my address while shopping there for the first time for their warranty purposes, it was voluntary, it was not required to complete a transaction. That is completely different than PHYSICALLY COPYING down someone's license number. Despite Mr. [redacted]'s interest in my personal life, I am not a Tennessee resident, I am a full time student at the University of Tennessee, I am still a Florida resident, and I can assure you, no business in Florida has ever required a driver license number on a copy of a receipt for purchase. I don't understand how any business owner trying to resolve an escalation would respond with such a hostile and direct insulting manner. I suggest the Revdex.com read the already 2 month old response attached to this case to see the manner in which he responded. I [redacted] continue to escalate this within the Revdex.com. Should Mr [redacted] care to apologize and treat a customer who simply wants an apology as a professional business owner, I [redacted] consider listening and refrain from a petty response such as "Go shop at[redacted]". If I do not receive the proper apology for this poor attempt to resolve this issue, I [redacted] gladly publicize this letter on social media and other review websites.
