Glenda L. Smith Reviews (1)

Review: D & G rebuilt & installed a 16' gate in my driveway on July 13, 2013. The cost was $630. The gate fell off of the hinges less than 2 1/2 months later. The gate was not hung properly, otherwise it would not have fallen off so quickly. The gate had not been treated roughly & no children were ever swinging on the gate as [redacted] & [redacted], the owners, suggested. I contacted D & G Fence twice, but they refused to come to my house & properly rehang the gate because it would cost them too much to drive 60 miles to my residence.I did not contact D & G sooner, when the gate fell off of the hinges, because I was out of the country at the time. My neighbor told me when it had fallen off.Desired Settlement: I would like for D & G Fence Company to stand behind their work. I would like for them to come & properly hang the gate, which I paid them $630 to enlarge & install.

Just received your letter in the mail ID#[redacted].

On July 4, 2013 we meet with [redacted]. We could not do what she wonted with the gate on site, had to bring it back to Delta to weld 2’ more on it. On July 8.2013 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 3-men had to take off the old wood rails, wire, cut & weld 2’ more to the gate, then added new wire & rails to it. When the 3- men went back July 9, 2013 from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. we had to take the air compressor, & jackhammer to hammer out rock to set a new post for the opening 2’ wider. The job was completed & signed off on that day as a job well done. As for the $630.00 not what I told her to start with, she ([redacted]) said that was all she had to fix this so she could let her horse out, that does not even cover D & G Fence costs, but I agreed & felt good that we made it where she could let her horse out in the hole area. When [redacted] contacted me ([redacted]) a few days ago to re hang her gate I told her that it would be hard for the gate to just fall off the hinges as it is locked down from the top & locked up from the bottom, but I told her we will look at it when we are in the area & she agreed as it would be 120 miles for us & we didn’t have any thing there at the time. She ([redacted]) then talked with [redacted] not [redacted] there is no [redacted], on the phone to see how to do it so she can get her neighbor to help her put it back on the hinges. She said she was out of the country so who knows what could of happened to it, but it could not just fall off. She has had over 5 mouths to contact us & if it hung there as big as it was 16’ single gate for 2 ½ mouths as she said it would have had to be hung properly.

The gate we added 2’, new wire & rails to was hung properly back o the hinges that were there.

Drilling the rock & setting the new post in concrete that she did not make not of was also done properly.

As agree D & G Fence will also look at it when we are in the area, if still need to.

Review: [redacted]

I am rejecting this response because:

I would like for D & G Fence Company to know that good service includes both a quality product & a company that has enough pride to stand behind their work.

I am not able to wait for D & G Fence Co. to come to my area on another job, in order to have my gate repaired. They have no idea when that might be. If they continue to refuse to repair the gate, I will pay someone else, who knows how to do the job properly, to repair their work.

I have 3 friends/neighbors who want to fence in their property/acreage & have asked me, in the past 2 months, if there is a fence company that I could recommend. These will all be large-scale jobs. Returning customers & referrals indicate a reputable, ethical business. I live in a small community w/many new homes being constructed. I have lived here since 1952 & many residents share the experiences that they have w/local businesses & companies, with each other. Failure to stand behind work done results in lost business. Yes, the gate did “just fall off” & I find it interesting that [redacted] feels that it was hung properly because “it didn’t fall off for 2 1/2 months”. I doubt that anyone will purchase a fence or gate from a company knowing there is no guarantee at all that it will remain standing, or hanging, as the case may be. Failure to stand behind their work will undoubtedly affect their reputation in this area.

I do not accept their response, but will not continue this complaint & interaction.

Regards,
