Review: I called Dr [redacted] about my TMJ problem and they made an appointment. I was placed in the exam room and wait nearly 20 minutes past my appointment time before the Dr. came into the room. When he arrived he proceeded to tell me there was nothing he could do for me because I wore dentures. I had no exam he didn't look at my mouth he just said he cold not help me. He advertises that he is a TMJ specialist and that is why I made the appointment. Another issue was that he spoke more to my husband than to me and I was the one there for the TMJ exam. As we were leaving we were told there was a $100 charge for this visit. We called the next morning to inquire about the charge and I was told I had an exam, which I did not. During their initial questioning they asked my age but did not ask if I wore dentures. On their web site they state "call for COMPLIMENTARY CONSULTATION" There was none.Desired Settlement: Since there was no exam or x-rays of any kind I feel I deserve a refund. I fail to see how this was a COMPLIMENTARY CONSULTATION

Upon the complainant’s initial call to our office, we inquired the nature of her visit which she mentioned was specifically to her TMJ. We informed her of the $100 TMJ office visit fee.

The complainant completed a New Patient Information form along with a TMJ History Form and TMJ Initial Report Form, upon her first visit to the office. The doctor consulted with the complainant based on her verbal and written information and it was from this information that the doctor gave his professional opinion. The complainant did not qualify for TMJ treatment.

There was no discussion of insurance and had no part of the complainant’s office visit. Furthermore, the doctor is not a TMJ specialist, nor was the complainant ever told he was from our office. The doctor’s specialty is orthodontics.

Our office does not have a [redacted] ad stating what the complainant is claiming. We do offer initial complimentary orthodontic visits but not complimentary TMJ office visits, which the complainant was informed of what that fee would be in the initial call.

Our office strives to guide, inform and educate patients of their orthodontic well-being. However, through that initial office visit, there are those cases that we are simply unable to help. The complainant’s situation is an example of one.

We apologize for any misunderstandings the complainant had with our office and although we did our part to the best our knowledge, we have reconsidered the complainant’s initial request of the $100 TMJ office visit refund. The complainant should see that refund credited back to her credit card within the next 7-10 business days. If she has not, she can call our office direct at ###-###-####.
