If I could give less I would
Made me think my shears were better produced then they were. Seem to prey on hip young folk.
Cheap shears that chip and break easy that are extremely overpriced. Deceitful sales practices, inappropriate conduct from sales people they hit on you and when your decline they slander you in the salon community to your peers. Will take your shears for sharpening and take a month to get them back to you because they send them to Cali to be sharpened. Then when they come back act like it’s the end of the world to schedule a delivery time to you.
Wonder sales reps, great education options, and awesome product! Never had any issues ever and plan to purchase more from Hanzo. I currently own 3 pairs.
So I bought a pair of shears and paying $10 a month since I got for sharpenings 4 a yr. I needed my shears sharpened and they refused to cover cost to send a pair while I’m waiting when they are supposed to supply one while waiting and are supposed to pick up but since they don’t have a rep they refuse to cover cost. Now I paid for service and not getting what I’ve paid for. When I complained they canceled service and only refunded this month since they won’t send me a replacement while waiting
Mrs. activated her Stay Sharp subscription on July 10, 2019 and used one of the four allotted sharpenings available for the year on that date. Attached is screenshot showing that order. On the date of activation Mrs. was emailed a link to our Stay Sharp page containing the program details where it clearly states the following:
"Hattori Hanzo Shears does not guarantee that every Program member will have an area representative to facilitate sharpenings and issue loaner shears to use during the sharpening process. Hattori Hanzo Shears will provide a postage-paid shipping label with tracking for online or phone orders, but loaner shears are only provided by local area representatives."
As part of the program, a stylist with an active subscription can use up to four sharpenings within one year from the date of activation. Mrs. activated on July 10, 2019 and her one-year subscription ended on July 10, 2020. She had used one of four available sharpenings. She contacted our corporate office on July 29, 2020, 19 days after her first one-year plan had expired asking for us to send demo shears to her to use while she facilitated sharpening. Although we advertise that demos must be issued by a local representative as described in the fine print, we offered to send her demos if she were willing to pay for the shipping cost. She denied this option and requested to cancel the subscription, which we accommodated. At that time, her first annual subscription had expired and the three sharpenings that she hadn't used had expired. Due to these facts, we would not be able to honor her request to be refunded for the whole first year she was enrolled in the program.
Attached are screenshots showing the sharpening order performed on July 10, 2019 and the Stay Sharp program details. The fifth paragraph addresses the fact that demos must be issued by a rep.
I am rejecting this response because:first off that was for my first pair I bought from them I bought another pair from them and that is the one I’m looking to be sharpened and it is on them if that’s what I was told that was included when I agreed in first place. They need to let us know that if that’s the case and when I purchased there was a rep for the area so I expected it not my fault they can’t keep people
A Sales Representative, ***, came to my place of business on multiple occasions to in order to sell Hattori Hanzo shears, marketing them as high end Japanese steel. He offered lots of marketing information about the quality and finally convinced to purchase the HH6S-6.0 6.0 Inch Kime Swivel Single Swivel at $1315.00 on payment plan where I would pay them off at $142/month over 8 months at zero interest. The only reason I agreed to such an expensive purchase was because I believed I was purchasing shears made of high quality Japanese steel made and manufactured in Japan. It has been brought to light by a recent class action suit in California that they are actually manufactured in China and don't have a county of origin stamp or any labeling anywhere on the packaging shears or as to their country of origin. I was deceived by their deceptive marketing and would like to return them for a full refund.
Unfortunately Mrs. has been provided false information regarding the origin and manufacturing process of Hattori Hanzo Shears products. As stated in her complaint, her sales representative advertised our shears as being made of high-end certified Japanese steel, which is accurate. She is correct in that our shears are manufactured in China. Hattori Hanzo Shears, Inc sources certified steel from Japan, but our manufacturing process takes place in China. In compliance with US customs laws, our manufacturing process and origin of steel are displayed on our packaging, not on our shears. Attached is a Raw Materials certificate showing that we use certified Japanese steel. Hattori Hanzo Shears in no way false advertises our products or is intentionally misleading in our marketing efforts.
I personally spoke to Mrs. and explained these details with hopes of preserving her faith in our products. Mrs. invested in a high-quality shear and we want her to be satisfied with her purchase. Unfortunately she still feels as though she was mislead and requested to be refunded from her purchase made on November 8, 2019. Hattori Hanzo Shears offers a 15-day return period and a 60-day exchange period. Being that Mrs. is far outside those time frames, we are unable to honor her request to return. I made sure to reiterate to Mrs. that we stand behind our lifetime warranty and that if her skepticism derives at all from the performance of her shears, she can contact us and we'll provide a complimentary diagnosis and replacement to ensure top-notch performance.
The image of our packaging that Mrs. has provided is just the inner box. The inner box is protected by an outer sleeve that includes the fine print she is seeking. Every order includes the inner box that comes within a sleeve, which is then shrink wrapped to ensure that the package is not tampered with. Attached are photos showing each element, including a photo of the fine print that details the fact that the shears are made of certified Japanese steel, but are a product of China. The attached links to other brands of shears manufactured in China have no bearing on our steel costs or manufacturing costs. Furthermore, I'm not at the liberty to share company invoices for the purchase and sourcing of our steel. The previously attached material certification already shows the origin of the steel as being from Japan.
I am rejecting this response because:the one and only material item that has origin is a paper sleeve that was meant to be discarded and none of the packaging that is meant to be kept for storage of the shears has any identification of origin. Furthermore, the certification of authenticity is from some random company Takaya Co., Ltd which as far I can tell is a producer of liquor and spirits and is totally bogus and another deceptive attempt at appearing to be Japanese in origin without any verifiable information. All marketing and promotional materials put out by Hattori Hanzo Shears is meant to make it look like they are Japanese company when they are in fact not and they are using deceptive marketing practices to price gauge the public. I was shocked to learn they were made in China, and so is every other stylists I have shared this information with because HHS does such a thorough job of making themselves out to be Japanese.
I purchased shears in October 2019, made 8 payments which left 2 payments but they are insisting that I have 4 payments left. I tried on several occasions to try to resolve this to no avail. So I had no choice but to pay them. So I want you all to beware of this company.
I am extremely disappointed with the shears that I am paying for and so I asked to return them and be refunded. I was told that because it was past the 30 days that I couldn't be refunded but I could either get a replacement or a different shear of equal or greater value and just pay the difference. I had the rep just send them in to be inspected hoping the problem could just be fixed. Once I got them back, about 2 weeks later I started having the same problem with them. Now months later, Mark finally came by and gave me a pair of shears. I asked him how long it would take to get my new ones and he said I’m not going to be getting new ones. He gave me his old used demo pair which are dull and worn and told me that they were new before he left. I didn’t get a chance to try them out and inspect them before he left. I’m done with this run around nightmare I have been put through. For $765 I should get what your company advertises. I want my money back. Come get your shears please.
We have resolved Mrs.' concerns to her satisfaction. Mrs. provided her text correspondence with her Hanzo sales rep and it was determined that her request to return her purchase was made approximately one week outside of our 15-day return period. However, we did determine that Mrs. did not receive prompt customer service to the standard that Hattori Hanzo expects from their representatives. Because of this, we are replacing her shears with a brand new set and crediting her account $100 for the inconvenience. Mrs. has accepted and seems to be happy with this resolution.
I purchased a pair of sheers from this companies sale rep *** for a total amount of $1338.14 with a payment plan for 9 months. The scissors do not cut, buckle the hair, and are dull and they are 8 months old. I was told that they would not need to be sharpened or maintained for 2 years. I was continuing to make payment even tho I could not use the scissor anymore. Then I got an email from them telling my that my payment did not work. I called to find out why and spoke to a rude customer service rep who thought he was a boos. He would not listen nor help me with my issue and when I asked for a supervisor I was hung up on. A supervisor did call me back and told me she was so sorry and they would take care of the problem. She even went as far as to tell me she would discount my finale 3 payment from $141.00 to $76.00. I though this was a nice gesture on her part and the company. Well......3 days later I received an email stating the $76.00 payment is due and now my term has been extended from 3 finale payment to 6 final payments. I was livid. I texted the company and canceled my credit card. I asked in the message for them to hold their side of the bargain and give me the 3 payments of $76.00 and we will go our own ways or take back the scissors and give me a full refund. They never responded. I then call again to request a refund and to now where to send the product back and I was confronted by the same rude and nasty customer service rep. I think they only have one. He said he would not help and called me a liar about the change in payment plan. I asked for the phone number to the corporate office so that I can express my concerns to them and tell them how crazy their customer service department is. He said nope and hung up on me.
I want people to be aware of this company and the unethical practices they have.
We have spoken to Mr. and have a plan in place to resolve his concerns. A postage-paid shipping label has been issued to Mr. for him to send in the shears to be replaced with a brand new pair. We have applied a $100 credit to Mr. account due to the miscommunication regarding his lowered monthly payment. We have addressed the issue with customer service representative that did not communicate professionally with Mr., and offer our most sincere apologies. Mr. is a valued client and we will ensure that his concerns are rectified.
I purchased three pairs of cutting shears that were marketed as Japanse Steel it turns out they are not. There is no country of origin listed
Mrs. is under the false impression that Hattori Hanzo Shears are not Japanese steel. All Hanzo products are comprised of certified Japanese steel and comply with US customs laws. Hattori Hanzo Shears labels the origin of their products on their packaging rather than on the product itself, which is acceptable for customs regulations. No Hattori Hanzo product is falsely advertised. Furthermore, Mrs. does not own the $1,800 Kamikaze model referenced in her complaint. Nor did she purchase any products on the 1/3/19 date referenced. Mrs. has in fact purchased three pairs of Hattori Hanzo Shears, two of which were through Hattori Hanzo Shears Inc directly on May 23rd, 2017 and June 13th, 2017, and one pair purchased through an authorized distributor on Aug 2nd, 2012. Mrs. is a valued client and we'd be happy to answer any further questions she has regarding the origin of her shears, but since there is no validity to the claim regarding the origin of our steel, her request for refund has been denied. We can be contacted at ***.
Trying to get customer service to sharpen shears is nearly impossible. I’ve been trying for over a month to get a prepaid label to send them to be serviced . I will respond to an email and they do not respond back maybe a week later and not even answering the question that I asked in the first place .
They said you need to update your account .
Ok I messaged back where do I update my account? Where do I go ? Send me a link .. some information.. about a week later their response was .. give me your credit card information in the email and I will update it .
Are you freakin kidding me ? I responded No .
Finally last week I was told they sent my name to someone who will contact me to sharpen my shears .. you guessed it ... nothing. I bought a pair of shears from *** and I paid to have Hattori shears sharpened from *** . Do not buy from them . Customer service is a joke .
Bought these shears and paid top dollar. Also paid for the yearly sharpening thing. The rep came and got my shears and had them for a long time I texted to ask how much longer cause I needed them back and he brought in “my shears” the next day. I got into the salon and went to do my first cut and grabbed the shears he put back in my desk and they were NOT the shears I paid for. I got a hold of him and he said he had given mine to a different stylist and would be back in a couple days. So he returns my real ones and THEY WERENT EVEN SHARPENED so he came back and picked them up & had to wait another week. Dropped them off and they still weren’t working. Tried to talk to customer service and they didn’t care. Won’t ever be buying another pair.
I attended school at *** in 2018 & 2019 and received a pair of Hatorri Hanzo Shears in my kit. In early 2019 a rep, ***, came to my school and offered free sharpening of shears to students. She took my shears as well as other students and told us that she would bring our sharpened shears back within a week. A classmate, ***, and I were given a loaner pair of shears to share between the two of us while we were waiting for ours back. After months of waiting, we still hasn’t received back our shears and were left sharing the loaner pair while in school and taking 2-3 each clients each per day. Nearly two months later, my shears were finally dropped back off at school by the rep. *** never gave any information on who they were dropped off to and *** and I asked around and no one knew where they were. I don’t understand why such an expensive item was just dropped off to someone at school and not handed to me directly. About a week later I took a leave of absence from school and left the country. According to the notes that someone had emailed me yesterday, I was getting texts regarding their loaner shears to my cell phone. Why a company would text and not call is beyond me, and it is also unprofessional. I was out of the country and could not even receive text messages and after several unanswered text messages that should have been an indication that I wasn’t receiving the messages. Fast forward to a year later- I still don’t have my shears back and I have a letter on my credit staying that I owe them $647 for the cost of their loaner shears. I have reached out several times to the company and have been offered short, rude comments and have been given no resolution to my situation besides “to turn in their shears and they will remove it from my credit” and to “call the school and find out where my shears are.” I never signed any kind of agreement when I was given the loaner shears stating I would be responsible for the retail value of the shears and I believe it was illegally put onto my credit. I was also never personally handed back my shears by the rep and still this day have never even been given an apology for the mishandling of the situation and for putting me at an inconvenience while I was in school- they have not even acknowledged to me that they are in the wrong.
This situation has been resolved. Our sales representative facilitated a shear sharpening for Mrs. (now Mrs.) on Jan 17th, 2019. The service was performed and returned to our rep for delivery. She attempted delivery on Feb 26th, 2019 but the client was not at the beauty school. She made three other attempts in March, April and Jun 2019 but the client had left the country for an extended period of time. Our rep has had her shear in her possession since that time, and Mrs. was left with a demo shear during that time. They just weren't able to meet up and facilitate the swap of shears. We have since contacted Mrs. and sent her a replacement shear. We provided a postage paid shipping label for Mrs. to return the demo shear, which she has done. We have removed the "charge" on Mrs.'account for the value of the demo shear and contacted our collections agency to inform them that Mrs. has returned our property and that the situation has been resolved.
I have paid for one pair of shears in full, worth over $1,200. Right now, I’m paying for another pair of shears through Hanzo’s payment plan. When I bought my first pair of shears, I was unaware of them being a fraudulent company. They lied to my coworkers and myself that they are made in Japan, when they are actually made in China. Which makes the price of Hanzo’s shears outrageous compared to what they are paying to make them. I had doubts before I bought the second pair of shears due to the company's lack of being able to keep a steady rep in our area. Then a rep came from another area to smooth things over while assuring me that the company was fine and legitimate. I was lied to and did not ever receive the correct information from this company.
Mrs. has purchased two pairs of shears from Hattori Hanzo Shears with a combined value of $2,100. She is a valued customer and we'd love to preserve her faith in our high-quality products. Unfortunatley Mrs. has received false information regarding the origin of our steel and our manufacturing process. Every Hattori Hanzo blade is in fact made using premium Japanese steel with a proprietary blend of alloys. The assembly process takes place in China and that is clearly indicated on our packaging. Hattori Hanzo Shears has not and would not lie to anyone about the quality of our products, and all Hattori Hanzo practices have been approved by US Customs. In light of these facts, we would not be able to accommodate Mrs. request to be refunded.
Mrs. is correct in that we have significant turnover with representatives in her territory, but that has no bearing on the quality, material or manufacturing process of our products. We strive for a high level of retention with our sales representatives, but the length of their employment is often out of our control. If at any time our clients need service and are without a representative, we are able to facilitate any needs from our corporate headquarter. We can be reached at
I ordered from this company because according to their advertising for many years, the shears they sell are The best Japanese steel in the industry. The claim that they were from Japan was the major reason I trusted them! I got the shears and I trusted that they were what they claimed, they said I had 15 days from the time you order to send them back, of course during that time you can’t reach anyone. The shears are basically like cheaply made light weight junk from China.
I called them after I investigated and found out this is pretty much a scam! I called them last week and told them I want to send them back and please refund the money I have sent this far. Which is probably over $400-$500! These shears are about $800 and they allow you to make monthly payments. They should be stamped with the country of origin, and they are not!!!
I just want my refund and they can have these cheap shears back...
They ARE NOT WHAT YOU ADVERTISE!!!!!!!
Mrs. purchased a pair of shears on Sept 2nd, 2019. Unfortunatley, Mrs. has received false information regarding the origin of the steel used in Hattori Hanzo Shears blades. Every Hattori Hanzo blade is in fact made using premium Japanese steel with a proprietary blend of alloys. The assembly process takes place in China and that is clearly stated on our packaging. All of the Hattori Hanzo manufacturing and import processes have been approved by US Customs. Being that Mrs. is mistaken in her belief that Hattori Hanzo Shears are made of "lightweight junk from China," we would not be able to honor her request to be refunded.
I entered into a new stay sharp contract. The first time I sent them in they over sharpened my shears and shaved off the bumper. My rep sent them back in for inspection assuming that they would cover the cost to replace them since they are insured for this reason, and it is covered with my contract. I have now called customer service again to try to remedy this situation and was told that they would call me back and have heard nothing. I am out approximately $400.00 $358.00 plus tax to order a new pair online. Plus whatever shipping would be. They said they cut fine, which they do not. They bend hair, the blade is now shorter because they rpunded the end. The bumper is non existent. And they are basically avoiding me and expecting me to continue to pay monthly for a service that they provided very poorly and wont rectify.
Mrs. is on our Stay Sharp subscription program which is $10/month and includes a variety of benefits including 4 sharpenings and supplemental coverage on any Hattori Hanzo Shears she has purchased. The program does not provide coverage on any non-Hanzo shears. Mrs. sent in a pair of Sukotto shears for sharpening on Dec 20' 19'. The shears were sharpened and returned to her on Jan 10th, 2020. Mrs. contacted her sales rep a few weeks later saying she had concerns with the performance of the shears and how the rubber bumper was shaved down. The shears were sent back in on Feb 18th, 2020 for a "shear inspection" which is a complimentary service used to diagnose shears that need special attention. The shears were diagnosed and tested by a sharpening manager and determined to have been appropriately sharpened. The issue was that the shears have aged and the blades have thinned out over time. Every shear has a lifespan and this particular pair is beginning to approach it's end of life. In a case like this, as the blades become thinner, there are only two ways to ensure that the tips of the shears come to an appropriate close and that's by either shaving the bumper down, or bending the handle. Being that this particular pair of shears is made of cast steel and would break if we attempted to bend them, shaving the bumper was the correct course of action and industry standard. I spoke to Mrs. and explained our decision to shave the bumper and ensured her that the bare minimum amount of steel was removed during sharpening. She understood but elected to cancel her subscription program, which we accommodated.
After inspection we have determined that Mrs. shear was sharpened to the best of our professional ability based on the age and condition of the shear (client verified that the shear is approximately 10 years old, more than twice the average lifespan of a cast steel shear). Although Mrs. clearly cares for her tools, metal is removed with every sharpening which gives every shear a lifespan. Unfortunately Mrs. shear is nearing end of life and at this point had to be altered and reshaped in order to preserve any last bit of use. Due to these findings, Mrs. request for reimbursement has been denied.
I am rejecting this response because:
Hatori Honzo Shears....used my discover card without my authorization. I made a 1 time payment to them, stating this is a 1 time payment and also FINAL payment on some shears..they agreed. I paid them $379.62. then 4 days later there was another charge from them on my discover card account for $10.00 I called them to find out what it was for and why they did so without my consent. When I made the payment they "automatically" added my card as the DEFAULT card on the account. This was NEVER discussed on the phone call when paying off the shears. I called them and they would not remove the $10.00 charge and also told me they would not remove my card from their until my DAUGHTER authorized them to do so. I don't understand why they would say this ...as they used my card with no ones authorization...she would not reimburse me
Mrs. called to make a one-time payment towards her daughter's balance on 2/20/20. Her daughter also has an active subscription acct that includes sharpenings and supplemental coverage on her shears. Mrs. card was not deleted after payment so it was run on 2/24/20 for the $10 subscription payment. We have refunded her card for the $10 and deleted it from her daughter's account. We have emailed her daughter to inform her that this leaves no pay card on file for her recurring subscription payments and have requested that she contact us with a valid pay card in order to preserve the benefits of the subscription.
Not made with Japanese steel. They don't hold an edge long. Customer service is unimpressive at best. I have Hikari E5s that I paid less for and get sharpened once per year. The Hanzos I have had sharpened 3 times this year. Make sure you see the country of origin. German steel is cheaper and Japanese is what the best shears, swords, knives are made from. NOT HANZO
They have charged my debit card 3 times in a 4 day period. The customer service representative said I’ll be added to the list due to a “glitch” in their system. He wasn’t helpful at all, didn’t ask for my name or any other information. From what I’ve read, this company has been doing this for years!! Their customer service rep that’s “in charge” of my area has yet to reach out after countless emails!!
Mrs. is correct. Our recurring billing system suffered a communication error with our third party payment processing company on Jan 29th and 30th causing clients with pay dates scheduled for those days to by double or triple charged. We are aware of the glitch and it has been corrected. All clients that were incorrectly charged have been refunded or had the payments voided if not already batched out. Those refunds sometimes take a few days to clear client accounts so we are emailing everyone effected and offering to pay any overdraft fees assumed due to the billing error. I have personally called Mrs. Bracero and informed her of the refund taking place on her account and she was very satisfied with the resolution and personal call.
I am extremely unhappy with Hattori Hanzo's customer service. I order shears via e check. I was to it would take 14 days to process my order. After 10 days I decided to cancel my order. I called customer service, texted my rep and cancelled my order. On the 11th day $144.38 was taken out of my account. I called customer service and texted my rep, they said your order has been cancelled but when the payment process they can refund me. Now 5 days later still nothing. No refund, no email, no nothing. I have to call again to try to get this handled. Take my advise don't buy from this company unless you are 100% sure you want to be stuck with your shears.
Hello , I'm writing this review to warn everyone. I have bought 3 pairs of shears with hanzo . When the first pair started folding hair instead of cutting. I found the new rep in my city and she convinced me to join stay sharp . Great ! I'll get them sharpened for
$ 1100 shears it's worth 10 a month to keep them good. But still they bend hair. I've sent them in twice. Maybe I have the wrong type of shears for cutting. Funny my *** shears work great wet or dry. But more tools is even better so I buy my second pair. $800
Great! First few cuts amazing. Then point cutting snagging hair . Now I'm convinced it's me. Fast forward Since I just opened my salon I buy equipment on ***. My stations are from china. Guess what else I found .. my Shears !!!! Which my first pair have been discontinued through hanzo. Because the handle has a too familiar marking and when you see the one from china and hanzo they are the same. Fine mark up the price on the chinese shears. But do not sell them to is claiming the ugh are the best japanese steel when they are not from Japan at all. Given they are not stamped Japan (which all my *** shears are ) infact they have no country of origin. Which my understanding is if they are from out of the country they need to be stamped where they come from. They advertise they are japanese and they are not. They are mid grade chinese quality worth a 3red of what I paid. I think everyone should know.
