Review: I just joined this gym. Upon joining, they expect me to have a personal training session with the training manager who they said will explain how to use the equipment. ON April 30, at 3PM I attended the required "free" training session. Some of the exercises were beyond my phsyical abilities as I have hip joint and knee joint problems. But I made the best of it. Afterwards, I was having a lot of pain and had trouble walking and standing up straight. Anyway, I iced and heavily medicated myself with anti inflammatory pills and as far as the first training session they had me sign up with I could not do due to my injuries and previous health challenges with my hips and knee joints so I cancelled the session and also the contract on Monday, May 4th. By Phone and also cancelled session with the Training Manager and the front desk I called on Sunday May 3rd and notified the front desk when the trainer was not in that I would not be there on the following day because I was injured and my low back is out. I followed up again on May 4th by phone and was told by the personal training department that I was well within my cancellation window and had not used any training sessions my $169.00 down payment would be refunded back to my Visa card within a few days. Since then, a very snappy employee named Gabby is very rude and obstinate and tells me I have to wait 2-3 weeks AFTER May 5th when they BEGAN processing my Refund and will not assist me at all other than to get loud and talk over me when I explain that my card should have been credited by now the full amount of $169.00 and can I have a manager call me back. She just about hung up on me. This Gym has no problem taking money from customers but when it comes to being fair and asking for a refund, from May 30th to June 11th, they just say it is in process and get loud when you ask why it is so long and this in my opinion is not alright, it is using up someone's hard earned money for what they say could potentially take a month and is being "reviewed"!!Desired Settlement: I want my whole refund back of $169.00 ASAPAnd a phone call from the manager to apologize for their awful treatment to me as a new member, I cannot do business with unprofessional, rude, snappy people as Gabby. I cannot seem to bypass her, she is the one who answers the incoming calls for Personal Training at their Main office in Stockton. I have asked for a manager to call me back, but based on her attitude I am fairly sure she will or already has tossed the message out. Horrible Customer Svc

Review: I hesitantly joined InShape from the convincing of the sales rep in the gym. My hesitation was because I was unsure of my job stability, and was assured that if I moved to an area where there was no In Shape, that I could cancel my membership because of a job move, without recourse. 3 months after joining, I had to travel for work. I put my account on hold (so I thought), however, the hold was not placed and I was charged for the first month it should have been on hold. I finally got the account on hold correctly, for 3 months while I was traveling. At the end of the 3 months, I was required to move for work. I called and spoke to a representative and was told that if I emailed the request, it would be taken care of. The account was NOT cancelled, I continued to receive bills and late fees, still being sent to my old address. After several months and phone calls, I spoke with a "manager" who assured me she would help me. I mailed in a verification of a move/address change, also emailed it in and did not receive any further information for a couple months. Months later, I receive a collection notice STILL being mailed to my old address and forwarded onto me, for the past due bills I had. I have spent countless and frustrating phone calls and emails with various representatives at In Shape, all who have assured me they will resolve the issue. Today, I spoke with [redacted], who assured me she could resolve it. [redacted] did not resolve it, only waved "late fees" but still trying to require me to pay 2 months of dues, AFTER the account should have been cancelled. [redacted] could not tell me her supervisor's name or title, other than supervisor. I do not feel I should be required to pay anything else to In Shape since I never received any services from them past the initial 3 months, especially since I was misinformed and charged after cancellation. I will continue to advise all of my friends and associates against ever joining In Shape.Desired Settlement: Full refund of all outstanding charges, since I received no services for these charges.

Review: In shape had me sign a contract without verbally explaining what I was signing up for; as a result my bank account is being debited and I have made it very clear that I don't want this service. I am not being given the option to opt out or have my money refunded; I am only being repeatedly told that I am under a contract and nothing can be done at this point.Desired Settlement: I would like my money ($180.00) refunded back to me and I am no longer interested in doing business with In shape.

Absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced. I paid for training sessions and never received them. No one was helpful when I demanded a refund. No one apologized for the inconvenience. I was hung up on 3 times. Very disrespectful and rude. I am done using their services.

Review: Cancelled my membership, provided all of the correct documentation per the contract. Inshape continues to charge me every month. I have contacted customer service many times, complaint gets ignored. Impossible to speak with proper management, most "customer service" is done through emails which never get returned. Empolyees gave false information regarding personal training. Personal trainer did not show up in most occasions, I was still charged for the sessions. I attempted to contact the customer service many time but calls and emails were never returned.Desired Settlement: I want [redacted] to be held responsible. I do not want them to take advantage of any more people and swindle them out of money. I want a refund for all of the all the charges from May 2016 to July 2016. I want to be refunded for my personal training sessions.

Review: When I signed up for this membership the representative of the company made it clear that there would be NO fees for cancellation if I moved out of a service area. I mentioned the contract said otherwise and was told this was not an issue as these fees are routinely waived. Upon trying to cancel my membership (having moved to another state). I was informed that this never happens and that unless I have documentation stating otherwise they would be unable to help me. Gym membership reps are NOTORIOUS for telling people what they want to hear and waving fees at will knowing that they will never be held accountable. The fee would be warranted if I canceled because I didn't like the gym, but I moved, and this is unacceptable.Desired Settlement: No fees should apply

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.

However it should be noted that this response from the company was after nearly a month of trying to contact the company. The Revdex.com had also formally closed this previously as failure on the company to reply. As such I feel this should still count as a negative mark for 3 years as previously stated by the Revdex.com

Review: The employees of your palmdale location provide inaccurate information, unprofessional behavior, and lack of caring for their customers. I have been lied to by every single person I have talked to since joining your gym. The General Manager does not return phone calls and claims to have never got messages, the receptionist rochelle thinks upset customer's are funny and laughs into the phone at them. The original person who signed me up [redacted] offered to have his wife who worked for LA Fitness cancel my membership. Lied and said it was cancelled until I called and told him I got charged for it and then started avoiding my calls, then when I went in to change my billing information I specifically asked [redacted] if they would be able to stop payment to my bank account in time which he guaranteed me he would process that day so I did not make the funds available which overdrew my account because that was a lie, the operations manager susan supposedly promised the GM would call me but according to GM [redacted] he never got the message. Your gym's lack of professionalism and training has now cost me 75.00 in charges for following their instructions. I have quite literally had enough. Come to find out my change of payment was never even processed. I will be cancelling my membership on Monday with [redacted] and taking the paper with my credit card information away because I do not trust any of your employees. Obviously your managers do not know how to train or keep their employees accountable and I would rather join a gym that cares about its members.Desired Settlement: I want a refund of all fees and my overdraft charges from June 1st (61.00 gym fee and 35.00 overdraft fee). I want my membership cancelled and repromands to all gym employees up to and including the operations manager for imappropiately handling situations and lying to their members. This is the worst managed gym I have ever attended and I will be returning to LA fitness immediately.

Review: After receiving a letter from the company for cancellation they still debited money out of my account.

A cancellation letter from In-Shape was received on September 13, 2013 from [redacted] confirming that account #MXXXXX was cancelled. October 3, 2013 I login my bank account to see that I was charged the monthly fee of 29.99. I call and they say that it will not be cancelled until February 2014. However, the letter I received states that on September 13, 2013 it was cancelled. They said they will continue to make debits until February 2014. I would like to have my money refunded and the debits stopped like the letter said. Desired Settlement: 29.99 for October and no other debits made hereinafter.

They have agreed to cancel membership like the letter stated and they are returning Octobers payment via check.

Review: This is the worst gym EVER.... First of all, I believe there is scam going on at this gym. I signed up over the phone and later found out that the representative signed me up for a 36 month contract; in which I never agreed. My contract was forged... This gym is never open on time. The gym suppose to open up at 6am on Saturdays, but on four occassions since I have been a member (10 months) when I arrive at the gym at 6am there is no one to open the door. The staff and other members are waiting in the parking lot for more than 40 minutes. Management at this location is rude; in particular [redacted]... I drove all the way from my house to them gym just to speak with him becuase when I called inshape they told me I had to come in to speak to a manager. I asked if a manger was in and the representative said yes. When I arrived to the gym [redacted], THE MANAGER, did not want to speak to me and my sister. He told the lady at the front desk to tell us that he was not the manager, but when I asked her if he was she said yes and that he was on break until 9:30 and it was 7:30 when I arrived at the gym. [redacted] was so unprofessional. I never received that type of disrespect from anyone.Desired Settlement: DesiredSettlementID: Other (requires explanation)

I would like my membership cancelled. I will never go to any inshape establishments again.

Review: My son signed up with a personal trainer at in shape health club of Modesto. I agreed to let them take a total of 3 payments out of my account. I was not told that if he did not send in a written cancelation, the contract would automatically continue. I was not shown the contract nor did I sign anything. In shape has taken 3 extra payments at 160.00 each. They knew my son was going into the Air Force and that it was a short term agreement. They are refusing to pay back any of the 480.00 they have taken from my account.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund of 480.00 dollars. The amount for the 3 months I did not authorize.

+1

Same thing happened to me! I wanted to try out a month to see if I liked the training so I payed for 4 sessions and that's what was shown that that is all I was getting nd said I didn't want to have any more sessions, then next thing I know they charged my account the next month. I called customer service and they said it is in an electronic email that it will auto renew. I did not sign it when I signed up nor did I electronically sign anything when I signed up so I don't know how my name is on it, it was forged when they signed me up that way I didn't get a chance to read the agreement.

Review: I referred my parents to sign up at InShape. They were running a grandparents special for $25/month pp, no contract. So my parents went into the gym and signed up under that promotion. They live part time in California and part time out of the state so they wanted to make sure that under this promotion that they would be able to place their membership on hold when they were out of town. They were advised that they could do so but it would cost them $10/month pp when their acct is on hold. When they were leaving town they called up InShape to place a hold on their account and were told that they could not do so. They were told that I needed to call in because I was the primary person on the account. This confused me because they should not have been on my account. My account was already existing and I just referred my parents in to get their own account started. I had nothing to do with the promotion they signed up for. So I call corporate & ask why I needed to call for something my parents are requesting on their account. They said it was because they were added to my account & I can only request those changes. She also informed me that I could not place a hold on just their memberships (I still wanted mine to be active), that it's either everyone needs to be on hold, or everyone needs to be active. I advised them that they were not supposed to be added to my account in the first place and that the employee at the gym was supposed to start them up under that promotion on their own account. The rep offered to take them off my account but that would result in my parents having to membership to cancel and they would have to go in and resign up under the current prices and would not get that same promotion because it had ended. This was not fair since this mistake was due to their company's employee not setting the initial account correctly. I felt it was only right for InShape to take my parents off my account and re open a new one with them only under the same promotion but they refused to do itDesired Settlement: I would like to have my parents account reinstated under the same grandparents special promotion. It was their employees fault for not setting up the account correctly and separately. I dont feel that my parents should be punished in having their account canceled in order to separate it from mine (when InShapes error)& to spend their time to go back down to the gym to resign up under a more expensive membership since the promotion is no longer available.

I am rejecting this response because:I did not receive "a couple voicemails". I received ONE call which was today at 8:35 am (my cell phone call log and VM log is attached. The missed call I am referring to is from the 209 number at 8:35 am) I have not been able to call back yet. It has only been 2 1/2 hours since I have received the one and only call and I think that is unreasonable that In Shape only gave me 2 1/2 hours to callback before sending a message to the Revdex.com with facts that are untrue. This is just another example of how In Shape does not properly document what really happened in reality versus what they made up. I will be calling the business back when I am on my lunch break.

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to my concern, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me as long as the settlement details are completed by In-Shape. The settlement agreement are as follows:1. InShape to add my parents back to my account how it originally was (with my membership as it was, and them added on under the $25/month per person promotion). The InShape representative has stated to me that this has been done. 2. InShape is issuing a refund to my parents for the separate membership they opened in the interim due to the cancellation made by Inshape. InShape rep stated that this recent membership they opened has been voided and a refund check for the charges they paid will be sent to my parents. My parents should not have any further charges on the account that has been voided. I will not know for sure that this has been done until they receive the refund check. If the refund check is received, then the issue will in fact be resolved.

Review: I was a member of In-Shape health club in Visalia, CA for several years, and had also used their personal trainers for quite a long time. Last April (2014) my trainer quit but said he was thinking of staying on part time, early mornings, so I waited a couple of weeks and when I didn't hear from him, went into In-Shape on Mooney blvd. in Visalia to cancel my training and also my gym membership, thinking this would be a good time to take a break from the gym.The manager I talked to said she would have the training stopped and the charge ($200) for May refunded, (should have got that in writing). Then she convinced me to let the membership be paused for up to 6 months in case I changed my mind and wanted to come back at the old rate. I never received any money back for the training but was not billed for June, July or August at all. Also, I never got any mail or email confirming my status at the gym, but as long as I wasn't being charged I let it slide. In September I was billed for $200 for training. When I called the number on the bank statement I was told that my training sessions were only deferred for 3 months and that the manager couldn't cancel them, only by calling this phone number could I cancel them, and that I could use the sessions or transfer them to another member or lose the money, no refunds.I went back to Mooney gym to talk with the manager and make sure my gym membership is totally cancelled, but got no sympathy or help with the training issue. This feels to me like just another company that will lie or cheat just to get one more month of fees from you.Desired Settlement: I'd like to be refunded for the training sessions that I did not ask for and did not use, $400.

Review: On July 8, 2014 sometime in the afternoon I realized my InShape account was not paid. The first EFT transaction was July 1,2014 with a zero balance shown on their printed Transaction List. However, my bank account showed the EFT transaction returned to InShape due to Insufficient funds and a fee for the insufficient funds. I didn't catch the error till July 8, 2014 and InShape submitted another EFT transaction at 0600 hours on 7/8/2014 and I immediately went to my bank in the afternoon to resolve the issue. I also did a large deposit to cover the late fee from InShape and to cover the monthly fee of $49.99. I requested from my bank to pay InShape but the bank was unable to pay it. I was instructed to have InShape submit the EFT Transaction. That same day I went to InShape Sport at [redacted] in Modesto CA. Member Counselor [redacted] printed a Transaction List showing that Inshape was paid on 07/01/2014. "Are you sure Ms. [redacted]" more than once and Ms. [redacted] was emphatic that it was paid. I went back to my bank and showed them the Transaction List. The information was wrong and InShape charged me $125.00 on August 4, 2014. [redacted] from Corporate told me their computer screens are not the same as the clubs. This is the reason for the $125.00 charge on 8/4/2014. How can InShape a large corporation have software not tied into their clubs? [redacted]. This is unethical and violates the CA. Business and Professional Code section 17200 - 17210.Desired Settlement: I have no problem paying the August $49.99 membership due however, the July $49.99 membership could have been resolved had [redacted] knew her job better. I am not trying to get out of paying membership dues but when I asked over and over again: "Are you sure?" and she said "Yes." On July 8, 2014 I went to Inshape to have the EFT Transaction sent to my bank. I did this based on my bank's instruction. But Ms. [redacted] printed out the transaction list showing InShape had been paid on 07/01/2014.

Review: On or about June 2013, I called In Shape Health Clubs to inform them that I would be out of the area and wanted to cancel my membership. The person on the phone said it would be best to freeze the membership until I was ready to return or to call within 6 months. Again, I told them that I wanted to cancel and not freeze the membership. When I hung up with them my understanding was that my membership was canceled and closed. Early in 2014 I received a notice that the club had been billing me and also added cost for the rejected card for payment. I called them to settle the matter and they refused to waive the fees. I tried again 2 additional times to settle the matter with them and they continued to deny to waive the fees. Now I received a letter from them stating I owe them $236.00 and it's a collection notice. I have not received any service from the club in a year and they are charging me for a service that I did not receive plus additional fees. I feel that their claim is fraudulent. The fees they are charging me are for months that I never attended the club and I understood that I had cancelled my membership. Please help.

Review: I signed went into In-Shape on Hammer Lane in Stockton, Ca in 2011 to apply for a 30 day month to month membership.I was 18 years old at the time and was my first time signing into a membership. I was immediately helped by a sign-up counsoler who brought me into a room to sign up. He asked what I wanted because they have the option of 3 year, 2 year, 1 year memberships. I said that my friend goes here and told me that they offer just 30 day month to month memberships and said I wanted that one. I made it very clear that I only wanted month to month and did not want to enter into a contract. He said okay and we started talking about fitness goals. We then started talking about cost. There was an expensive start up fee and he told me he could get me a discount and all had to do was to allow them to automatically withdraw and I could at anytime (because I signing into a "month to month" membership. He handed me what we discussed as a month to month membership with automatic discount and found out later that he handed me a 3 year contract. I remembered that as soon as he handed me the contract he walked out for at least 20 minutes. When I found out, by that time I had lost my contract. They said that if I couldn't provide them with a contract then there was nothing they can do. I asked if they could give me a copy (a manager) and he said that they don't keep records of contracts any where on file or electronically, which I found was a lie because I threatened legal action and is now mailing me a copy of my contract. I've had many circumstances since then where I needed to cancel my contract, which they failed to do. I have PTSD, Anxiety, Paranoia, and depression. which caused me to lose my job. I could no longer afford the contract and I explained why. I also told them that I had medical issues that had risen. I had severe back pain from scoliosis and inflamation of the knee. Where I excersize under the monitering of a physical therapist. They failed to cancel my contract.Desired Settlement: Refund of months I did not attend the gym. 1. Review: I wanted to take advantage of the "mother special" that InShape was having. My husband and I signed up on 5/8/2015. [redacted] filled out all the forms and asked (made my husband, 73 years old the primary person on the account) my husband to sign electronically at least 5 pages. I asked if we would get copies of everything. [redacted] said: "yes". When we got home, saw only one page, "membership application and schedule of classes. We went the following day, and asked for the rest of the forms. We we signed up, we asked him several times, that our membership, had no contract and it was month-to-month. The copies we got the second day, it states that is for 12 months. He deceived us. Both my husband and I have major health issues. He is taking blood thinner for life and I just found out (I have medical documentation) that I have a rotator cuff injury (arthritis) on the left shoulder. I mentioned that to Omar, the Personal Trainer Manager the first day.I went today to cancel the membership (just 6 days later) and they want to bill me for the 6 days of the membership. I remember [redacted] telling us that the commitment could be cancelled due to medical reasons. I'm disputing whatever charge because it would be fraudulent, because they offer free 7 days passes. Anyways, my contract falls within the days consumers can cancel any contract as prescribed by law. We only used the gym 3 days.Desired Settlement: The desired settlement is to cancel the contract for medical reason and not to charge us anything. That is if they want our business in the near future, once we recover from the injury from my left should and my husband can be safely use the gym.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:Right after I spoke with [redacted] from InShape Corporate office, I received an automated phone call from InShape, stating that they will proceed with the membership autopay. InShape is used to unfair bussiness practice and they want blood (money) no matter what. I'm prepared, ready, willing and able to fight them back. The buck stops with the [redacted]'s.

Review: I called in shape 12 times before I called their corporate office to get a price quote. Each time I called the club I kept getting an excuse of I will get a call back. My question was do they offer a discount if I pay for the full year up front instead of monthly. I even said they could leave the answer on my voice mail. I finally got patched through from coproate office to a person named Moses, to where he tried to give me his sales pitch. I said please I just want to know if I would get a discount on paying in full for the year up front. After a several minutes of me repeatedly asking this question he finally did say no, you do not get an additional discount so I said thank you that's all I needed and before I could say anything else he hung up on me. My complaint is every time I called I was promised I would get a call a back, to which I did not. I also left a message each and every time of what I wanted to ask. They are simply rude and do not care for new business.Desired Settlement: First I want an apology. Second they should be able to answer a real straight forward question without playing games or being rude, and they should actually call a person back when they say they will. I have money and was very interested until I was treated so poorly. They all need to be trained in customer service.

Response:

I am rejecting this response because: I have called the club and the number listed in the email and I have also emailed [redacted] back. With no return phone calls. I work until 5. He sent an email out at 4 pm on Friday when I called back they were closed and not open on the weekends. I then called the local club phone number instead of the corporate office and I did leave another message with No Return Phone calls. If they do not return messages or my emails I still would like a phone call back.
