The response I read from this business clearly reflects the poor attitude and lack of concern for a customer that I felt when there and prompted me to register this complaint in the first place.  I took my small snowblower into this business for an oil change and new spark plug.  I did not ask for a tune up or any other work to be completed.  I told them that when last used it worked fine.  I did sign a card it appears allowing them to work on it, but the person at the desk did not clearly tell me what I was signing.  Shame on me for not looking closer but my instructions to him were perfectly clear.  I returned to pick up the unit and was given a $230 bill.  They did work that I did not authorize and never call me to approve the work done.  If this blower required that much work my prior approval should have been requested.  You don't ask for a $35 service and receive a $230 bill without it.  I don't care how long they have been in business, that has absolutely no bearing on this complaint.  My neighbor told me he has had similar problems with this business and has never returned even though he has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years.  The man I spoke with did offer to "remove the parts they put on it" and can't understand why I paid for the bill?  What was I supposed to do?  Take it back broken and have to go somewhere else?  They have no customer service, they did work not authorized and then tried to make this entire situation sound as if I did something wrong.  That is very poor customer service, and I am totally dissatisfied with their company and the shameful handling of this matter.

The customer did not ask for an estimate and signed next the the box asking if he wanted one. We felt the unit was worth repairing. So we went forward with the repair. When he came in I asked him if we would of called would he of done the repair he thought about it for 30 seconds and in a roundabout...

way said no. He mostly seemed mad we didn't call, not so much on the cost. Would he of asked for a estimate we would have. I then told him I would show him what was done to unit so he understood the cost he refused. Then I offered to remove all the parts so he would only owe the $30 estimate fee and at that point we would of lost money. He said no the work is done! I said yes but you said you didn't want to pay that much. Three times I made that offer and he refused. Also the customer asked for a tune up not just a oil change and a spark plug. The unit would not even start! We have been in business for 50 years in the same location and pride are self on doing good work. If you thought it was too much ask for an estimate, read what you sign, and most off take the offer that was given and pay the $30 and walk away he was also told of the $30 and signed off knowing of the $30 charge. Enclosed is a copy of the paper work the customer signed off on. I showed the customer the paper he signed and really had nothing to say other than it was too much. I told him that if the snow blower was worth the investment. Also customer said in the letter we rebuilt the carburetor we replaced and that's because the brand of the engine on his unit old offer s a whole carburetor not a rebuilt kit.

Review: I left a small snowblower for an oil change and sparkplug. When I picked it up this afternoon the company told me the bill was $230. I asked why the amount was so high when the work I requested was so minor. They told me that the carburetor had to be rebuilt, and it needed skids and scraper. I asked why I wasn't called to approve such work when I had originally asked for only an oil change. The reply was "most people we call just say fix it" so we didn't call. I told them if they had I would not have approved it since I only paid $150 for the blower. After arguing for several minutes they refused to adjust the bill so I paid it. I do not feel they should have charged so much without my approval.Desired Settlement: I think the bill should be adjusted and a portion of it refunded to me since I never was asked for any approval before the work was done.
