J & M Pool Service Reviews (2)

Review: I paid J&M Pool Service $110 on 10/11/2012 for a service call, $580.17 on 10/18/2012 for a new pool pump, and $1,496.08 on 10/25/2012 for a new filter and pool parts. In September of 2013, the pump and filtration system again failed to operate. I called an an appointment for service was set for Oct 14 at which time I was told my pool sweep was faulty and there were leaks in the pipes. The pool sweep had worked until he showed up & worked with it. He immediately took the pool sweep out of the pool & took it with him & said he would be back on Friday. I called him that night saying I wanted my pool sweep back & wanted to consult with other pool services since he would not honor the warranty & work he did the previous year. He said he would send it Thursday since he would not allow me to pick it up. It was never returned even though I have left 3 messages & he refuses to answer my calls.Desired Settlement: It would be fair for him to honor the warranty & repair the faulty work from the previous year. If not, at least, he could honor his word & return my pool sweep.

Business

Initial Business Response

This customer contacted me over a year ago for a pump problem. I replaced the pool motor only and later replaced the filter because it had a crack and leaked. The filter has a 1 year manufacturer warranty, and is still OK. The motor also has a 1 year warranty and still works fine. The problem now is that the plumbing at the pump is leaking due to the homeowner or her son turning the valves incorrectly, deadheading the pump and damaging the plumbing. When I came out, I explained the problem to the customer and her son. They both seemed to understand that the plumbing needed repair. Unrelated to the plumbing was the pool sweep. It also was not working and I was asked to repair it. The bill for my services was around $145.00 but was never paid. I refuse to go back out to her house unless she pays the service charges that she promised to send by check the next day. When a customer does not honor their word to pay the next day, it makes it hard for me to do any more work for them. I am still waiting for the $145.00 that was promised.

Final Consumer Response

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)

I refuse to pay another repair fee when he refuses to return my pool sweep or return my calls.

Review: My husband contacted the business around March 14, 2015 to look at the pool pump that they installed about 3-4 years ago. The employee (can't remember his name) said that the capacitor needs to be replaced which the employee did. We were charged $95 for service call and $45 for the capacitor part. The pool service employee spoke with my husband that it was fixed. When my husband got home in the afternoon around 4P, he added some pool chemicals and the pump ran until around 9 PM. The next day, the pump didn't come one so my husband called the pool service company again, and employee came out and said that the pool pump motor had burned out and we needed a new one which will cost around $700 and that he will reverse out the capacitor cost of $45. We didn't have the funds to purchase a new pool pump so we waited. Again, we were charge another $95 for the service call. The total bill is $239.05During the waiting period, we were very curious as to why we need a new pool pump since the one we have is not quite old. We then decided to call another pool service, and the other vendor said that the capacitor was the only issue. He replace it and we were charged $125 for everything and the pool pump is still working. I don't understand as to why J & J Pool Service recommended that we get a new pool pump, yet another pool service company was able to fix the issue. My husband & I feel that we have been swindled by this service company for supposedly fixing something that my have been temporary and recommended something that was not necessary and very costly. His recommendation was to his advantage. We do not understand how he said that the pool pump motor was burned out, yet another person was able to fix it. Please look into this matter and are we obligated to pay the invoice.Desired Settlement: We will pay for one service call of $95 and nothing else.
