JC Roofing Supply

[redacted] XXXXX

Dear Sirs,

This letter is in reference to the roofing job at [redacted] XXXXX.I came into
your place of business to inquire about the cost of roofing supplies. I had the approximate dimensions of the house. However, I did not know how to figure how many square the house was. I was told by one of the male workers at JC Roofing Supply that you also do the labor in addition to just selling the supplies. I showed the dimensions to the male employee and he said it was between twenty and twenty one square. At that time a female, [redacted], informed me she was the owner's daughter and took over and began to assist me. She proceeded to Google the address to obtain dimensions of the house in order to better
quote a price for the job. Again, I told her I did not know how many square it was and she told me her father, [redacted] the owner of the company had been in business for over fifty years could just look at a house and tell the cost. At that time she told me the job would cost $4,500 to $4,800. She proceeded to tell me they could give me this price because the shingles are seconds. Meaning, the color of the roofing can be a little off. I made sure she had the address and asked her to send someone to measure, she said she would give the information and photo to her father and get back in touch with me. On May 14,2014 I received and email and estimate saying the cost of the job would be $5,000. I called and spoke with the
male employee to verify the quote and he remembered me and stated that was the price and he would have [redacted] call me back to coordinate the job. I received a call back from [redacted] and at that time she again stated the job would be $5,000 unless there was more decking needed. But, I was told I would be contacted for approval of the extra materials, as stated on the quote, if that was needed. She asked if I wanted to have it done that weekend but I requested to have the labor on the roof start the beginning of the following week. She told me the materials would be delivered that Monday at approximately 8:OO am and the roofers would arrive approximately 9:OO am. Around 9:30 am a man named [redacted] brought a trailer with the roofing materials and dropped them off in my driveway. At 11:30am the roofers had still not arrived so I asked my daughter to call to find out an approximate time they would be arriving. She spoke with a male employee and he stated he thought they were just dropping off materials and would be out Tuesday to begin the work but he would contact [redacted] and verify this because she was out of the office. [redacted] returned a call to my daughter and informed her the roofers were a day
behind because it had rained so they would be out on Tuesday to begin the job instead of beginning the labor on Monday. On Tuesday morning a little after 7:00 am the roofers arrived and I was greeted by a lady named [redacted] and she informed me they would be there working until approximately 6:00 pm. At that time I told her I would need to leave around 3:00 pm and she said that would be fine. Around 2:00, I went out into the backyard and was watching them, I heard someone say they had forgotten one of the pipe boots. A little after 2:00, I spoke with [redacted] again and asked her about the pipe boot and she stated yes they had forgotten the pipe boot and she would have to go back to get it and another roll of

felt and that was all she had mentioned. I left approximately 3:l5 pm and did not return home until approximate 8:00 pm. Upon returning home the job was completed. At no time did I ever receive a call from [redacted] at JC Roofing Supply or [redacted] from the subcontractor or anyone else stating they needed anything else from me or additional material. On the morning of May 21,2014 I went into JC Roofing Supply to pay the $5,000 that I was quoted via email, written, and verbally by two different employees at JC Roofing Supply. When I went there that morning I was approached by [redacted] in the parking lot. At that time she introduced me to [redacted] her father and the owner of the company, he asked me to come inside. As soon as we entered through the door of the business he stated the job was bigger than what I had said. I told him no sir it was not, I had asked them to figure out how many square the job was and that his employee had figured it up, not I. At that time he told me he wanted $6,000 for the job he would not accept the $5,000 and that if I did not pay him the $6,000 that day he would put a lien against my house and sue me for $7,000 and then raised the price to $7,500. After him calling me a thief and con man and all other kinds of threats he told me he would be suing me for $10,000. To date, the trailer
is still in my driveway and is making a hole in my driveway. Also, there are five or six bundles of unused shingles in the driveway. I attempted contacting [redacted] last Friday to inform her the tires on the trailer are going flat and it will be towed by the city and have not received a phone call back from her. I am willing to pay at any time the $5,000 1 was quoted via several different ways. Please contact me when you are willing to accept the $5,000 I was quoted as payment in full.

Sincerely,

[redacted] XXXXX
