Review: Good afternoon, November 2012 I hired JD Landscaping to do a hard scaping job at my house in Durham, CT. The wrote me a basic quote on paper, which was hand written and we agreed on the price. They did the job one morning in November and I had some further questions about the job. I have had trouble having them return my calls, and emails. I have asked for receipt at least 5 times for the cash I paid them in full and have yet to receive this. I have asked them to return to my house to check the job they did as it doesnt seem right. I havent asked for any money back - just a receipt that is professional for the job done and that they reassess some of the flagstones they placed as they have broken. The company is extrememly unprofessional and unwilling to help. All they care about is thier money and will not give me a receipt. I would like assistance in having this company be made to acknowledge their ineptness in communication, their inability to provide me with a written professional receipt and to commit to coming back to my house to reassess the job they did in November. I have made it clear to them I simply want a receipt and that they reassess some of the stones they placed. As they have been evading me now for 7 months I would love to just get my money back and have nothing to do with them. I wish I had paid more for someone else. I think they did good work - it has been their attitude and unwillingness to communicate that worries me. Their erratic emails are rude and biligerant and I want to prevent anyone else having to go through this stress of dealing with an unprofessional company. If you go to their website they dont allow you to email them direct. If you ring them their voice mail, as they wont pick up the phone, is a recording of their phone number which means they must be avoiding something. I admit I didnt do my due diligence by hiring this company and used them as I was referred to them by a neighbour. I am hoping you can help me. thank you, [redacted]

The job they did was fair. This is why I have asked them to come back to reassess the job and fix it. I havent asked for money back as I know this is too hard and would be unlikely. I simply want to feel like my $2.5k in cash was well paid. If they can replace the stones and redo the job I would find this acceptable. Otherwise, I will happily take back a portion of my money instead as I do want to acknowledge that JD landscaping did do a fairish job.

Business Response /* (1000, 18, 2013/06/14) */

This job was started and completed on 11/23/12 the day after Thanksgiving. The job was a very simple and small project we where suppose to place down some flag stones under the deck. We arrived at the house at aprox 7am and we had completed the job by 1pm. The home owner was home the entire time.

We did not get a deposit before the job was started or even at the start as we knew it would be a simple project that once complete we would be paid.

Upon completion of the job the home owner inspected the job and approved and that time the home owner paid us for the completed work I signed the work order and dated it with a "Paid In Full" on the work order form as a receipt.

The project we completed was a basic flagstone project under a deck in order to keep the dirt down from the house and to place some items on it. The home owner wanted to be very cost effective and not spend a lot of money. We had actually provided the home owner for a quote on pavers for $6,000 but she opted to have us match a fellow landscaping quote for $2,500 and to use flag stone and not pavers as that was the least expensive way to solve her under the deck problem.

About 2 months later in the middle of winter the home owner out of the blue contacted me to say she was not happy with the work and that she wanted the job to look at "This" the "this" was a picture of some sort of high end premium stone project not new england flagstone and was not what we had priced out nor was ever the plan.

At that time the home owner wanted me to come back out and look at the project to discuss but given it was the middle of winter we both agreed spring time would be the better time.

As spring time came around the home owner contact us again to come out and said some of the stones where a little loose.

So in the spring when we had a slower day I sent my brother over to the house to apply a bit more polymeric sand between the stones. How ever this did not go as planned.

When he arrived at the house he was greeted by an aggressive homeowner. The husband had told my brother if he does not have any of the new stone "The expensive stone" to replace the flag stone with then he wanted my guys off the property now! So a bit of an argument had erupted and my brother left the property without adding the additional sand.

At this time the home owner called me and cursed me out saying that the only reason why she wanted us to come back out is so that "I" my self would come out and she could "Teach me a lesson" Both things I consider threats. At that time she said she would do anything under her power to destroy me and my business. This I feel also includes "Slander" including this Revdex.com post of hers which is so far from the truth.

My company does hundreds of hardscape jobs a year with no complaints and if there is an issue we always take care of it. We have reviews all over the internet and a reference list a mile long to back us up.

If this customer was not happy with the finale job she would of never paid us nor would it have gone months before she complained about the stone. I truly feel that she liked the project until she saw a picture of something else she saw and wanted that instead. For this I highly encourage the Revdex.com to also stand up and realize that sometimes no matter what a contractor does there are people who you just cant resolve things with.

I had them put a patio in my yard and it is beautiful. They did it in one day and cleaned up things better than they were before they showed up. They said they started at 7:00 and they were there at 6:55. A great crew and excellent work!

Review: We had a paver patio and stairs installed in May of 2014 with this contractor. The paver stairs from the sliders to the patio have come loose as of August 2014. We've tried to call the number on the website and our invoice at least 12 times since last August to only get a generic VM prompt though we've left messages each time. I finally did get to speak to [redacted] over the phone right prior to the March [redacted] to see if they were even still in business. He assured me they were and showing at the show. He promised me he's send someone out as soon as the conditions warmed. He never showed and I'm again still leaving VM's at the number provided and the one he actually picked up in March. I've had zero returned calls. I've emailed him as well and there's been no response to email which was provided to me by one of his major suppliers. That supplier also assured me he's still in business and purchasing materials.Desired Settlement: We need the contractor to fix his work or provide a refund of that portion of the job so we can get another contractor to repair

Review: In the summer of 2010 we retained J&D Landscaping to install a paver patio, fire pit and sitting wall. Additional work was performed to include a retaining wall with steps, a short walkway and a paver/stone porch in the front of the house. Beginning in 2012 settling occurred in the sitting wall. Allowing for natural weathering of products and the minor affects we had no concerns. Further settling of the sitting wall occurred in 2013 with the result that now there are multiple divisions between sections of the sitting wall that are up to one inch in separation. The wall is also listing/leaning outwards from the fire pit, further exasperating the separation of the wall. Further inspection of the front porch reveals leaking of sand and 'settling' of stone. I contacted J&D in late May-early June of this year via telephone, explained the situation and was told that someone would be out to inspect the wall. To date nobody has visited the house to inspect. Subsequently four additional calls to J&D have gone directly to voicemail and have gone unanswered and unresponded.Desired Settlement: We would request that the necessary repairs be made to both structures or payment made to have repairs completed by another contractor.

Response:

J & D Landscaping has sent out a representative to the site to review the customer concerns, two things have caused the problems, the first lack of paver maintenance. The application of polymeric sand that holds the pavers together and prevents water from getting under the base was not maintained. This allowed the second problem to occur and that is excessive water damage. Due to the poly sand not being maintained it allowed for water to get under the paver and caused erosion that in turn caused the movement of the wall and pavers. Due to the lack of maintenance and excessive water damage this problem is not covered under our general warranty.

They installed a patio, firepit and retaining wall. Final product was nice, but a few things to know if you use them. You will have remaining pallets of pavers in your yard for quite some time, you will need to clean up the dirt and sand left in your driveway, you will need to purchase grass seed to repair the yard damage done for installation, and you will need to go back and refinish the patio once the sand settles between the pavers (which happens within 2 weeks). J&D can do this for you but at an extra cost.
