spoke with [redacted] of J&J Home Improvements. Discussed work, settled on a price, refuses to rtn calls and getting money for job. Back in late November I spoke with [redacted] of J&J Home improvements. We discussed work that was needed to be done on my homeand settled on a price to do the work. Initially they worked on repairing the floors 8 am to 4 pm and then the kitchen. Everything was supposed to be done by Mid January but thingsstarted to slow down, he started giving excuses why his workers were not there, not returning phone calls and txt msg's and now not taking ANY calls. They left a dumpsterin the yard, ceiling fans hanging and not working. Brand new bathroom where they got paint on the new shower glass and wood cabinets. A missing set of house keys, and $ 50,000 of my money. [redacted] But as of today, February 10th, it doesn' t look like any of us will be enjoying anything. They left the dishwasher sitting out fromthe cabinet saying don't use it because the water just backs up, so now I can't use the kitchen sink or dishwasher to clean the dishes at all. I paid to have the old windows replaced, a 25 x 25 extension including a master bath, kitchen work all stainless steel appliances, replace the siding to match house, paint, new central heat and airfor the addition, whole house generator, hard wood floors through-out the house, insulation, plumbing, 15 x 15 storage, and a wood rail fence in the front to keep people frombacking into the ditch and ending up in the front yard. Gravel the driveway and pave the carport. When it came time to have the tree work done I had to pay to get that done because [redacted] was nowhere to be found and I had just paid him a couple of days earlier to have thework done. We worked hard to have this work done and now some common, lazy thief figured they would take our money and leave us to pick up the pieces. Now with a single incomethe goal and the money are both gone. But please remember the few faces of the cons that took my our hard earned money and don't let them do to anyone else what they did tome ! Made all payments by check, except tree cutting service, $ 800 cash.Desired SettlementWant at least full refund due to breach of contract.

In Oct 2014 I contracted with Mr. [redacted] to build a sunroom, and do major kitchen and bathroom renovations. These are less than half completed.Complaint: In October 2014 Mr. [redacted] accepted partial advanced payment to complete several home improvements, including: 1) Providing a new tile floor in the kitchen, laundry room and two bathrooms2) New kitchen appliances: refrigerator, oven and dish washer3) Convert an existing deck into a sunroom and then build a new extension to the back deck 4) Replace existing kitchen countertops and sink combinations with granite countertops and new sinks. 5) Replace three bathroom countertops and sinks with new granite countertops and sinks. As of December, the tile floor (item 1), kitchen appliances (item 2), and the deck extension (item 3b) had been completed and/or delivered. However, the sunroom construction that was started in late November, has been at a virtual standstill since December. The big item tickets (granite countertops, heating/cooling system and sunroom windows) that I have paid for months ago have not been ordered. Throughout the process all I have received is misinformation and promises that all is well and the work will restart soon, only to see nothing happen. So, I am now issuing this complaint for nonperformance.Desired Settlement Resolution: At this point I would like to be refunded for the items that I have long since paid for but not received: $8,100 for a heat pump, $2,000 for the sunroom windows and $4,000 for the sinks and granite countertops, and then proceed with the project under a new contractor.

Complaint[redacted] demanded advance payment of $10, 680 for supplies to install a new master bathroom.Mr [redacted] insisted that he needed payment for supplies to expand and refurnish the master bathroom in our house. He stated that the pipes needed to be replaced. He had previously done some painting, window frame replacement and floor tiling for us and the work was adequate so we decided to take up his offer to do the bathroom work. I asked Mr [redacted] to get the appropriate building permits from Chapel Hill but this process was never completed and the start date kept getting delayed. When we realized that Mr [redacted] was not able to get th permits and that he kept delaying the work, we asked for the money back. He has refused to do this and we are now at a loss that we could ill afford. He is a con artist and we hope that no one else will fall prey to his conniving. Desired SettlementTo have our money returned to us.

We hired J&J to repair&paint our house. The work began app. Nov. 3, 2014 and is unfinished. Multiple msgs have been unanswered and appts. not kept.[redacted] is a kind man and came to our home in early November, suggesting doing some siding replacement and painting. We trusted him and decided to hire him. His staff appear to be good and kind people, and their work is generally good. They worked quickly and got most of the job done surprisingly quickly, within days.Unfortunately, my wife paid them in full after [redacted]'s insistence that he would finish up that day; this was well before Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, it is now December 27th and much work is pending. We have tried on numerous (15-20?) occasions to call [redacted] at [redacted]. In most cases, he hasn't returned the call. When he has, he has said he would send somebody over, which he has, and we have gone through the list of things to be done at least three times, including writing everything down for the foreman. He has then said he would send somebody to do the work "the next day", but in every case, nobody came and we didn't even get a phone call that they had to reschedule. In the meantime, the crew has continued to solicit and gain business in the neighborhood. I've several times asked them in person the status; once, the foreman came over and repeated the cycle described above, and another time the crew ignored me.After the last four no-shows, my wife left at least two messages that we would have no option but to file a Revdex.com complaint and hire another company to finish up their work, and insist that J&J pay the bill. Here is a summary of work that remains:A) We initially hired them because we had flashing repairs that needed to be done on the chimney and related gap in the gutter, allowing squirrels in. I can't tell if the flashing is installed, but think it probably is. But they didn't complete covering the open gutter, which the pest control company needs first before they come out to trap and release the squirrel. Incidentally, we had the understanding that the whole chimney would be replaced, but when they were working, they insisted that only partial replacement was needed.B) The back door remains unpainted.C) The front bannister remains unpainted.D) Crew marked with pen at least a dozen siding boards that need replacement. The "X" marks and old siding remain.E) Screens remain down and strewn about the side and back yards.F) Gutter downspouts remain down.G) New PVC boards on the side of the chimney are installed unevenly.H) There are a number of minor issues, all understandable and not out of the ordinary after a painting job. They could easily be taken care of by identification in a walk-through, which I have done at least 3 times. These issues include missed caulking, trim paint on siding, etc. The walk throughs were done with the foreman but not with [redacted], the owner, in spite of many requests of him.I) J&J ladders remain on our property.J) Rose bed carpentry remains undone. They were to replace the lumber and redo the raised bed and agreed to meet me at the lumber store and for me to purchase and them to carry needed lumber. We had two appointments, and they didn't keep or call to change either one.K) Laundry vent mounted on the siding needs to be replaced as agreed, but hasn't been done.L) Deck stain is uneven. There may be additional items but they should be covered by (H) above.Desired SettlementWe are happy to work with J&J with any of these settlements:1) We are NOT satisfied with the work and lack of professionalism in handling finishing up. The work comes with a guarantee, and we would like to request a refund as the work hasn't finished and we have now no confidence that this crew will finish.2) We can hire another company to finish the work. We would have to go through the effort of setting up and reviewing estimates, but are willing to do that. We would expect J&J to promptly pay the other company or to repay us.

We hired a Durham Company to do some work on roof in durham.we gave him a deposit, he kept it and didn't do the work.We hired a Durham Company to do some work on a small rental we have in durham, NC.We gave him a deposit, he kept it and didn't do the work.we are have a lot of trouble getting our deposit back; he has paid about 60% but still owes us about $900.J&J Home Improvement [redacted]Durham, North Carolina 27705 [redacted]Desired SettlementReturn of the deposit give J&J Home imptovement for work never done !Consumer Response:After 9 months, J&J Home Improvement has refunded our deposit. It was repaid a little at a time until it was paid infull. We needed to be very persistant.Thank you.[redacted]
