Knowledgeable. Professional. Humorous. I can't say enough good things about this guy (and his apprentice). Condo dweller here - having to deal with fixture wiring madness of previous owners. [redacted] tamed the mess, got my light working and REFUSED a decent tip!! Can you IMAGINE?

Review: I contacted JK of JK Auto Service as well as a few other businesses in the area to get an estimate for a rebuilt transmission for my husband's 2000 Dodge Durango wanting to ensure that I found a business that were honest, fair, provided at least a 90 day warranty, and was reasonable in cost. JK called me back and told me the cost would be $1400.00 which I agreed was more than a fair cost. On the 8th of July my husband drove the vehicle to JK to start the repair. The day after the vehicle was being worked on JK phoned me at work to inform me that the rear engine seal was leaking and that the part would be about $40.00 and no additional labor since the vehicle was already apart in that area. I agreed to this repair. I went to JK to pick up the vehicle on Sat the 13th as the transmission was complete. Before taking the vehicle I asked JK if I purchased the AC refrigerant how much it would cost to put it in. He said no charge however, they would check it and charge it but the cost was about $65.00 and $50.00 if I wanted to do that just in case their was a repair needed to avoid me wasting my money on a can that may not work. I decided to purchase anyway and if it didn't work then I would of just wasn't $50.00 but at least I avoided additional costs and I would know that I had another issue that I did not want to pay for at that time. As I waited JK told me that there was a small leak and it would cost me about $30.00 to $35.00 to repair so I agreed to have his business fix the repair but informed him that I would pick up on Monday or Tuesday since I did not have enough funds available for the transmission. (The bill came to $1529.00 vice the $1400.00 + $40.00 = $1440.00) I initially was told the bill would be. The bill was actually $89.00 more than I anticipated without the AC repair. None the less, I paid $1480.00 and had a balance of $49.00 to be paid when I picked up the vehicle after the AC repair. On the 16th of July I went to JK to finally pick up the truck and expected to pay $49.00 and another $35.00 for a total of $84.00 and was told the bill was for $98.00. I kindly informed JK that this was the second time I was quoted a cost that ended up being more than what was discussed and it was not good business. Yet I was going to pay but the tone was set for fairness so he charged me $87.11 instead.

As soon as I left JK I drove the truck 13.3 miles to my Aunt's house on [redacted] in [redacted], MD. When I was about 3 miles from her house the check engine light came on and then check gage. I looked at all the gages and saw that the temp read half way as it normally did so as well as the other gages, yet I was wondering why this hadn't happened before the transmission and I also noticed that although the vehicle did not seem as sluggish, I died not have the pickup one would expect with a transmission just put in. I stayed at my Aunt's home for about 40 minutes and went directly home which is 24.7 miles away. As I was on the highway I noted that the vehicle although again picking up speed better was not fully operating as though the transmission was just put in. When I was approximately 1 and a half miles from the house the check engine and gage light came on again. (the lights had went out by the time I got to my Aunt's home and when I left) This time I noticed that the temp gage was moving towards the right side but not yet hot. I kept vigil as to not overheat for 2 specific reasons. I understand enough to know after replacing my son's vehicle engine in the past and having a blown head gasket on another vehicle 15 years ago that the first thing to do is stop driving immediately, and if not in a safe location put the heat on high and pull over as soon as possible. The gage never got completely in the red the gage was actually the line above meaning 3/4. I was at the traffic light a block from my home when the vehicle just shut off. I saw no smoke, no steam. A police officer placed flares behind me and I quickly contacted [redacted] as my cell phone was not charged and I had no care charger available. [redacted] came and towed me out of the street. I called JK as soon as I got in the house and he said "Well sometimes things happen right after a repair it was probably just time to happen. It is probably the radiator" " It can't be our work we didn't touch anything that would make that happen"

I displayed nothing but calm patient demeanor with JK even though I was upset that I broke down less than 2 hours after having major repairs done in his shop. He said someone would come and get the truck and get me back to my car which was parked in the lot across the street. He indicated he would call me back to let me know the driver was coming as I told him I needed my car because now I had no transportation. JK did not call me back so an hour later I called him and he told me he would check on the driver again. I received no response so after another hour I called back and his son answered the phone and was told JK was not in so I asked him if he could contact him because I was stranded at home and needed the tow. He asked for my address as the driver was standing there. He gave the information to the driver who came and picked me up. I saw JK and he said not to worry.

JK called me the next day and started telling me about number 7 and number 2 and number 3, whatever that meant. I asked him to just tell me what the problem was and he sais "You have a leak in the radiator and you blew a head gasket by over heating". I informed him that the vehicle had NEVER overheated to myself or my husband's knowledge and we did not have the problem when we took the vehicle there. In fact we had the vehicle in the shop in [redacted], VA for a through check and the only thing wrong was the power steering pump, a complete tune up was needed and we were informed that we needed a transmission. This shop was fair, honest, reputable and completed the work as expected. We picked it up from the shop which was 27 miles from our home to take it for the transmission repair at JK and was able to drive it although sluggish and not only did it not overheat we had no lights come on. We later after a week and when my husband was back in town drove it to JK's repair shop and still no overheating issues or indicator lights. This did not happen until AFTER we received the vehicle back from JK. I told JK we needed to pick up the vehicle immediately as we were not going to have him do any further damage to the vehicle. I had a nice discussion with him, informed him that we had to get the vehicle repaired and that I was upset that this had happened. I was expecting the $1529.00 back because now I had possibly a $3000.00 or $4000.00 repair issue and if I had to seek counsel that would cost even more not to mention the 2 tows that took away from my [redacted] account which equates to over $200.00 as well as if I sought counsel another possible $600.00 for counsel fees, court costs and $280.00 in missed salary of leave at $35.00 an hour. I asked that he not give me the decision that day which was the 20th, rather to just think about it and let me know Monday the 22nd. I called [redacted] Monday the 22nd after work and again, a pleasant but firm conversation on my behalf and he indicated that he would take the transmission out of the truck put the old one back and give me my $1529.00 back. I denied that because now I am facing major repairs, and possibly an engine. I am asking for $1529.00 back for the transmission and seal work on the engine which now has turned into as stated possibly up to $5000.00 or a new vehicle. I also mentioned to JK that this complaint was what I preferred not to do if he returned the funds to avoid the negative rating. I am very disappointed that I am having to do this and possibly take other measures.Desired Settlement: I am expecting a quick refund of $1529.00 so that I can take the vehicle to another business which came highly rated and referred. The cost for them to check the vehicle is $100.00 and that is more than fair. I will now at this time spend more than 3 times the amount of $1529.00 to get this repair done so asking for the amount back is quick fair.

Dear [redacted] and Customer With our respect to you all In our field all customer when the have one problem they focus on it only they not looking to what going to cost them anther damage to there vehicle . In reality when the vehicle have transmission problem ( not shift ) . That will build a lot of pressure on the engine to quest that pressure to leak out for the weakest place in the coolant system in the engine that what happen in this vehicle the pressure crack the radiator leak all the fluid out customer didn't pay attention the vehicle reason get overheated and cut off if she pay attention to the vehicle she was able to turn it off . After we finish our job with the transmission we test drive the vehicle to check every thing is good on the vehicle we found the fan clutch is no good because of that have little bet off pressure high thin normal the vehicle that why we but it in our invoice to let the customer know that and she sign for that when it coming to any additional quest off repair she doesn't have the money for it that's why we didn't charge her for an A/C check we normal charge $65.00 for checking fee she bring her kit after we check it found out the A/C Valve is leaking we told her she going to lose all the refrigerant if she didn't fix it . We offer her anther help if she pay for the A/C Valve only $37.98 we will re vacuum and replace the valve and recharge it with no charge of labor she ok that she will pay for the valve only next day when she pack up the vehicle . ( We have the vehicle more then five day check test drive do A/C work nothing wrong with it ). You can ask any one in this field if you work in the transmission endear and back of the vehicle what it's going to do with radiator in the front of the vehicle with all that when she call us we offer her the good respect and we paid for towing the vehicle to our shop free charge ($125.00 ) Free engine diagnostic ($95.00 ) and we offer her to repair the vehicle with our respect and discount she refuse to do . BUT WE OFFER THAT TO HER IF SHE NEED IT AGAIN BECUSE OUR GOOD SEVICE THE CUSTOMER NOT FEAR OR WEAKNESS IT IS RESPECT TO OUR CUSTOMER . MANY THANKS AND RESPECT Dear [redacted] and Customer Sincerely . COMPLAINT # [redacted]

I REJECT THE BUSINESS RESPONSE:

I just read the latest JK Auto Service Response and at this time request NO offers except for the return of $1529.00 paid for the transmission placed in the serviced 2000 Dodge Durango.

I did not focus on just the transmission of the vehicle and decide that it did not matter if any other work needed to be done for proper repair. I find the owner of this business at this time to be quite insulting and untruthful. I had this vehicle at a reputable business because the vehicle did not have the driving power it should have and a few minor repairs to include new tires. We (My husband and I) had the vehicle at the shop for about a week and replaced the power steering pump, and a complete tune up to include diagnostic test to determine why the pickup was not as it should have been. When we picked the vehicle up from the shop although it drove much better it still had somewhat of a sluggish issue.

The vehicle did not overheat going or coming from the shop. When we got home we called the owner of the shop and it was decided to bring it back for more testing. This time due to the distance and not wanting to drive in a high traffic time stalling we chose to tow the vehicle in. ( My husband works out of town and time is limited to go back and forth and we could only do this during rush hour).

After complete diagnosis we regrettably were told that the issue was the transmission. This had been discussed prior so it was no surprise; however we had all decided to thoroughly test and be certain before having to replace the transmission. An estimate as given of $1700.00 so we decided to shop around first to find a shop closer to the house and possibly a little more reasonable in cost.

This business was well known in the area and had our trust and confidence as it still does, and as stated the only reason we did not repair it there was the cost especially since we wanted a few more things done. Because the business provided good service we order new tires at a cost more than some places just because of the working relationship. The only reason the transmission was not done there again is because we wanted to possibly save a little and find a shop closer to home. JK Auto is a few miles from my job and easier to get to. The shop drove the vehicle in the [redacted], VA area, we drove the vehicle home and to JK Auto and NEVER had an issue with a fan clutch or over- heating.

Regarding the statement to indicate that I did not have the money for extra repairs was an assumption that was wrong. When I first found this shop on the Revdex.com site, I called for a cost for a transmission and was told $1400.00. I asked 2 times during the initial conversation and again when I took the vehicle in and was told $1400.00. Mr. King called me while the vehicle was being repaired and told me that everything was fine and ok, but that a rear engine seal was needed. At first I declined this until I could find out what this was about until he told me that the best time to fix this was while they were already in the engine area and the cost was $29.00 so I agreed. I was NEVER informed about any other repair needed.

When I picked up the vehicle the first thing I noticed was that the job did not cost $1400.00 plus $29.00, rather it was $1529.00. I was not expecting this as I was given $1400.00 as a Total not a Sub-Total.

Review: I brought my car (Honda Civic 2002) in to JK Auto Body and Repair because it was overheating. The shop said that it needed to replace a water hose, and that was the reason it was over heating. I paid the shop 300.00 dollars for labor and repairs. My daughter came and picked the car up and drove it home after I paid for the repair. The car over heated again. We took the car back to JB Auto, they said that they needed to keep the car and test it. They replaced a second hose they say and the thermostat but said that the car was still overheating, and that the timing belt, head gasket, thermostat and water pump needed to be replaced for $1,700.00 and no guarantee that this would fix the problem. Everything that JK Auto body claimed needed to be done had already been done at another shop. JK Auto charged me another $183.00 for parts on the car that did not need to be replaced because they had already been replaced at [redacted] Auto. I had the car towed back to [redacted] auto where all of the original work had been done before for them to check the car. They tested and tested the car and could not find anything wrong with the car. JK Auto was about to charge me another $1,700 for repairs to my car that had just done a few months prior, and told me that the car was still overheating when the car was running fine. I believe that JK Auto charged me $480.00 dollar but did not do all of the work that they said and were about to charge me another $1,700 dollars for work that did not need to be done. I would like to file a complaint against JK Auto Body and Repair.Desired Settlement: I need to be reimbursed of $300.00 dollars for parts and labor that did not need to be done. This is for the time also that I had to take off from my job to get the car and for towing fees and travel. And I need them reported so that this does not happen to any other unsuspecting customers.

We called and explains the problem to customer we have first change hose and check if car have bad head gasket or some thing different [redacted] customer said ok repair it , We finish everything and the car went well so far after we fix the hose but the car have little bit high pressure . We state it in the invoice what the car need to be check after that and he knows about it and sign the invoice to make sure don't drive long distance maybe well get over heating again ................ He didn't see anything about the car been work it bay anther shop . Two days later customer call back said car overheating again . We told him tow it to the shop he did that when the car get the shop has bust top radiator hose and mess up the thermostat too . We called the customer as usual in all our work not just this customer because we respect them all for trust as to repair there cars . After explain every thing to the customer and the car need top radiator hose and the thermostat and how much it well cost him to repair the car and we see after that why the car bust anther hose like that and that fast and we not going to have any warranty for this job because of that not normal to happen bust two hoses with in three days . He accept every think we told him about the car and the price ..... ( He never mention again about the car been work in different shop if he was saying that we could of told him to take it back for that shop for a warranty job so he didn't pay this money ) . So we went to repair the car and finish every thing on the car . About this time we ask the customer to leave the car with us for couple of days to see what's the problem with the car to keep bust the hose that fast and give us the permission to drive the car and find the problem . [redacted] respect that and he accept to keep the car and check it . So we kept the car and we found the main problem is the head gasket bad need to be repair . We told [redacted] what is the problem with his car keep bust the hose like that ( Head Gasket Bad ) need head job service he ask us to price that how much will that be cost to repair we gave him the price he said that cost high for him right know and he didn't want to repair . when he came to pick the car after he paid the amount of the repair he tell us about the car been fix by anther shop for the same problem which the head gasket couple months a go so we told him to take it back to them for a warranty job if he still have it with them .He left the shop and he was happy with no sadness and we never heard from him again because we ask him to let us know if he need any help down the road with the other shop . Our apology and respect . Sincerely . JK Auto Body and Repair [redacted].
