J. L. Bishop Contractor Inc Reviews (10)

We have been in contact with Ms*** via email several times in the last week or so concerning this. There are certain occasions after an underground tank is removed that settling of that area
may occur but we try to tamp as much as possible with the equipment used to prevent this from happening. Unfortunately because of an unknown private water line running next to the tank and up against the sidewalk we weren’t able to tamp that area except by hand. Prior to the job it was explained to the customer that the tank was very close if not under the walkway and we recommended filling the tank in place but she really wanted it removed. In our contract it states “This work does not include re-grading of any settling of the disturbed area that may occur at a later date” which I am sure that the customer read since she did sign. I have agreed to bring topsoil over and fill in the area that has settled around the walkway but since she has responded that she wants us to bring stone because most topsoil is “inferior” to the soil she has in her flower bed so I responded to her to confirm that she just wanted us to fill in the settled area with stone but haven’t heard back***

We used this company for work related to the sale of our home The drinking water well sampler utilized extremely poor sampling technique (i.e., he did not use clean sampling techniques, did not promptly return the sample to the lab, did not chill the sample properly) which resulted in a contaminated sample
We had to resample in order to complete the sale The owner was made aware of the inadequate sampling techniques and yet refused to offer compensation of any sort
We were forced to delay closing and incur additional costs due to the unprofessional, sloppy handling of our sample
Upon further research, it should be noted that said sampler was convicted of felony construction fraud in Powhatan County which cause his contractor's license to be impacted
We do not recommend this company due to poor technical skills and unsatisfactory customer service

I'm currently dissatisfied because my backyard and the area (tank removed) is exactly as it was when I initiated the complaint. To date, the Revdex.com has not assisted in resolving my complaint. The owner, [redacted], did not tell me that filling the tank in place was preferable to removing the tank. He only said that the cost would be the same. He initially told me that he was using gravel as fill. I don't know why [redacted] was waiting for me to respond to confirm what was our original agreement (using gravel) and what I said that I wanted in a follow up email messaqe. When [redacted] mentioned using topsoil, I told him no I wanted gravel. He apparently used soil, which was not our original agreement, Additionally he did not properly tamp down the ground to prevent settling. He did not mention that there was any problem with a water line, which he informed the Revdex.com was one of the problems.[redacted] said in an email message today that he is going to correct the problem. I want this complaint to remain open until the problem is resolved by J. L. Bishop. The hole should have been filled with gravel initially. If the work was done as initially promised, the problem would not have occurred..Please let me know if you need additional information.Kind regards,
[redacted]

The dangerous situation appears to be resolved. The area where the oil tank still has significant settling issues that will require further work. You may close the claim to say that the contractor responded. The customer remains dissatisfied.

Review: I have a disability and am afraid to walk outside for fear that my sidewalk is going to collapse under my weight.

In early November, J. L. Bishop removed a 550 gallon UST from my backyard. Unfortunately, I promptly paid the bill. Within days of removing the tank, a huge hole opened up under my sidewalk and the yard where the tank used to be caved in. I paid $1700 for this service. I reported my concerns to [redacted] at J.L. Bishop within a week. [redacted] had Robbie L[redacted], the owner, contact me. [redacted] insisted that I would be required to pay an additional $200 to return to correct the problems. [redacted] said that would be a cheap price considering the labor and materials. [redacted] said that "settling just happens." I paid $1700 to have the job done correctly. Please help me. I sent pictures to [redacted] & [redacted] in November and received NO response to my email message. I can submit pictures if needed.Desired Settlement: Fill the area under the sidewalk and restore my backyard to its original condition so that I can feel safe walking in my backyard. This is what I paid for originally.

We do not recommend this company due to poor technical skills and unsatisfactory customer service.
