J & M Moving Service Reviews (23)

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the offer and/or response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below. The amount that was offered is not acceptable because it does not cover the damages caused by the workers of this moving company.
Regards,
[redacted]

We used J & M for a move in July and it was one of the most efficient and pleasant moving experiences we have had. The crew was well trained and easy to work with. We were referred to them by a former customer and I can understand their good reputation. A father taught his son the business and taught him well.

Review: I used this service the end of June 2014.Upon calling to check rates, the owner asked what kind of items I had,how many bedrooms, how many floors the home had etc to give me a better estimate & determine what size truck to send.I responded I lived in a 3 bedroom ranch, however, had NO bedroom furniture,NO appliances & my biggest item was a couch.I was told there was a $100 travel charge & a $125 hourly charge w/ a 2 hour minimum after which, the rate would be prorated to which I agreed. As I stated,I had hardly ANY furniture,NO appliances,1 small glass desk on wheels,a few pieces of exercise equipment which included a total gym & a small size elliptical,2 small tables w/ chairs,1 couch,1 arm chair w/ ottoman,a large mirror,a light medium size wall picture.Mainly bags & boxes.A few years ago,I was moved by a company I can't locate & I had 3 bedrooms of furniture,4 desks w/ chairs(3 of which were wood),2 tall book shelves,a washer/dryer,3 tables w/ chairs,an extra sofa & chairs & more boxes/bags.They moved steadily NOT speedily, but steadily & it took them about 1 & 1/2hrs to load & 1 hr or less to unload. They also charged a $100 travel fee & a 2 hour min.I paid them about $450 & it was well worth it.J&M movers moved as if they had all day.I placed things outside to help & saw them just standing on several occasions.I said nothing. My expression said a lot.In the end,the supervisor said didn't have enough space to load bike & elliptical so I asked if he could move his blankets balled up in the corner so it & the tv's could sit flat instead of leaning on other items. He said"Im not leaving my stuff behind".I said I asked to move it not leave it.Asked him to follow us.Said would be hard to do bcuz the truck moves slow.Saw him speeding but still arrived after us.Charged $475 w/2hr load & less than hr unload.I complained to owner who said he would refund an hour.Owner's wife/office man said they will NOT refund it;guys had familys to feed & asked why I didn't move it myself. They made loading into a 2hr job.Desired Settlement: The owner said he'd put a refund of an hour in the mail 7/3/14.When I called today 7/9/14 to check status, owner said his wife wanted to talk to me.She stated they will NOT refund it because the guys are allowed to take breaks,it was hot & they had families to feed.I said so they drag it out to 2 hrs to feed their families? That's exactly what I thought they were doing. She asked if I took breaks at work & I said yes, unpaid lunch breaks. She said maybe I just couldnt afford it but the check cleared

Revdex.com spoke with [redacted] from the company and he stated that he quoted the consumer for a medium truck and moved her with a larger truck for the same amount. He stated he also took money off of the traveling charge for the consumer. [redacted] said that he is not running company and they take their time so nothing of the consumer's gets broken.

[redacted] did not tell me he was quoting me for a medium truck, but sending a larger truck. Also, as I told both [redacted] and his wife, I don't expect a moving company to rush through the job, however, I also do NOT expect a company to take several breaks and extend a 1 hour job to a 2 hour job. I had hardly any furniture. When I called to check rates, [redacted] said there was a 2 hour minimum. When I complained about the employees taking several breaks, he said he would refund me 1 hour. A week later I called to check the status of the refund and he put his wife, the office manager, on the phone who stated they would NOT refund the money and that there is a 3 hour minimum. She also stated the employees have families to take care of which was completely irrelevant but it confirmed what I believed which was the employees dragged out a 1 hour job to a 2 hour job to charge more money and had a bad attitude on top of that. She also asked why I didn't do it myself or get someone else to do it and that maybe I just couldn't afford it. I am not satisfied with the misrepresentation of minimum charges and would like a refund in the amount of $125 which equals 1 hour of the work they dragged out.

Response:

Good morning,

I am faxing the job completion form, however the estimate was given via phone by [redacted], the owner, before services were rendered. I called ahead of time to see what the rates were so I could determine if I wanted to use their services or not. At that time, I was told there was a 2 hour minimum fee NOT a 3 hour minimum fee which [redacted] wife, the office manager stated AFTER the job had been completed and AFTER I complained to the owner about the relaxed and at times, rude behavior of the employees. [redacted] agreed to speak with the supervisor on site, [redacted], regarding his attitude and to refund a 1 hour charge of $125 which he never sent. Apparently, his wife disagreed and stated the employees have families to feed and that there would be no refund.

Thank you,

Revdex.com spoke with [redacted] from the company and he stated that he took off $25 off of the $100 traveling fee. [redacted] stated that he did say he would refund the 1 hour but after speaking with the office manager, they decided not to refund the 1 hour because the job took 3 hours and filled the large truck they provided.

My things did NOT fill the truck they provided. In fact, I removed my things from the warehouse this past weekend and it ALL nearly fit in the 14 foot truck. Everything they moved was moved this past weekend and all of it almost fit in the 14 foot truck. These guys even said those movers just didn't know what they were doing or how to pack because it almost fit in the 14 foot truck.
