Review: Concrete driveway was installed Sept 2013. When complete, I asked Jack Barton if there was anything I needed to do to care for the driveway. The response I received was to not park on it for 1 week, so I did as instructed. During the winter, ice and snow covered the driveway. I shoveled and layed a light coating of rock salt. I noticed in February that the top layer of of concreate was crumbling and in a large portion of the front half of the driveway. 2/6-called Jack Barton to inform him of problem. He said it was probably due to the rock salt but said he would come out and look at the driveway. 3/4-called Jack again beacuse he had not come out to survey the damage. Said he would try to come out that week. 3/10-called Jack to see if he had come look at the driveway and he said he had been sick so he had not. 3/21-called Jack to see if he had come to look at driveway. Jack informed me that he had been out a week and a half ago to look at it. I received no phone call from Jack about him seeing the driveway. He blatantly told me the top layer was ruined and it rock salt and "Mother Nature" was to blame. He said the process to fix it would be comparable to surgery and there is not guaruntee that it would stay fixed. I asked Jack why he didn't mention rock salt when I asked him how to care for the driveway in September and he believes it is common knowledge. However, not one person I've discussed this issue with knew not to put rock salt on concrete. My neighbor had a new concrete side walk installed in front of his house and layed rock salt and he has no damage to the top layer. Jack was rude and spoke over me while I voiced my frustrations over the fact that I spend over $2000 for a driveway that is less than 6 months old and looks like it is 20 years old. Mr. Barton has been in the concrete business for many years, it is common knowledge to HIM to not put rock salt on a driveway. I am not a concrete expert, which is why I paid for a service and asked what I should do to care for the driveway. I also used rock salt on my concrete sidewalks and see rock salt used on all concrete surfaces with no damage occuring. So to say, it is common knowledge, is an incorrect and desperate attempt by Mr. Barton to not be accountable for his inability to communicate with his customers about the service he has provided to them. I feel Mr. Barton's customer service and business practices demonstrate he is only concerned about taking the customer's money and not about the quality of his work. His assumpton that other's are supposed to know his job makes me wonder how he stays in business. I will now have to repair the driveway myself or pay someone else to do it.Desired Settlement: I woud like a refund of $500.00 to cover labor and expenses to fix the top layer of the driveway.
