Jacksonville Veterinary Hospital Reviews (1)

Office was recently sold, new staffers fail to inform charges for test.Have been taking my dogs here for years, my dad even took our childhood dog here as well. Didn't know the office had been sold to new vet doctor. I had taken my dog here a few month prior for routine check up (November)and was asked if I wanted to run a blood test and that it was 90 something dollars. Came today because my dog has a random mass and swelling in his neck. They want to run a test I say ok...the hour that I'm sitting there im thinking this sucks it's going to be at least $150-$180, since she didn't tell me how much the test was I ASSUMED it wouldn't be anymore than the last test. She said his organ functions are all well and that we had just did this test in November, said something about pancreatitis, but nothing to worry about! She gives my dog a shot for his appetite or nausea( wasn't throw up or diarrhea. he is already over weight and was eat still ) gave me pain med for his stomach pain(wasn't showing any signs of pain and was still eating...I told her he had breakfast, just wasn't excited about it)but said animals hide their pain, but the way she made the pancreatitis sound it would have stopped his eating, gave me antibiotics( the only thing that made sense...since there is a large mass and swelling in his neck!) she also wanted to give me canned dog food to give him for the next 2 weeks(my dog eats dry food of a different brand, do they want my dog to get sick all over the place because they want to promote [redacted] dog food?) I asked her if the food I already gave him would be ok and she asked the vet who said it was fine. Still tried to sell me the dog food! Back in the waiting room to check out the lady says its $313. I may be a cold hearted person but I'll have to put him down or start dancing to cover my next visit if the antibiotics don't help him.I could tell the staff was tired of the clients asking what happened to Dr.[redacted]...Desired SettlementNo statement. I will pay my bills. I love my dog, just not how today's visit went.Business Response Contact Name and Title: [redacted], Practice AContact Phone: [redacted]Contact Email: [redacted] Dr. [redacted] who is the new owner now has been working at the practice for the past 6 years and how we conduct business has not changed. When Dr. [redacted] examined Ms.[redacted] pet and then explained the treatment that was recommended she was told that Dr [redacted] realized we recently had run blood work however we would like to run some again and this time it would be a larger panel than last time to check for pancreatitis. Ms.[redacted] then agreed to the testing not asking for any cost. Her pet was then diagnosed and treated for ailment and on check out she then questioned the cost that is when the receptionist asked Dr. [redacted] about cost and Dr. [redacted] reiterated what she had said. When the receptionist relayed what Dr [redacted] had said Ms.[redacted] did not seem upset she just stated that we should inform clients of costs and paid for her services and then left. We tried calling client this morning to check on patient improvement and there was no answer and no voice mail set up message. When Dr. [redacted] explained that it was a bigger test it gave her an opportunity to ask what the cost would be. It was helpful in properly diagnosing her pet and being able to treat properly. We implemented a new protocol last night after she left that all clients will have an estimate that they will sign for any non-routine care.Consumer Response I hope that you didn't expect me to act irrationally, I was trembling after I was told the cost! I even told the receptionist that I was shaking just like my dog had been when he came in...I was never told it was a larger panel just that she wanted to a blood test to check his organs. After the test was run and she was going over the results with me she stated very nonchalantly that we had just run the organ test in November, as if they just wasted time doing the test. I was never told the cost of the test, which is why I said I ASSUMED since she had not mentioned anything about the cost.Final Business Response In the past even under old ownership we recommend treatment and the owner either declines or accepts the treatment also giving them the opportunity to ask for an estimate. However directly following her visit and complaint we implemented a new protocol to give written estimates to ALL clients not receiving routine care. So going forward this should avoid any issues regarding cost.
