Review: Janovic Paint and Decorating Centers published a print insert in the New York Times on Sunday, March *, 2014 offering "free measurement and installation on any window treatment purchase." Although the ad does include small-print caveats marked with a series of asterisks and hatch marks, none of these explain what I learned when calling to schedule an appointment for service, that consumers are charged up front for both measurement and installation, and only reimbursed afterwards if the total purchase exceeds $500 for measurement and $1,000 for installation. The caveats in question deal only with certain product limitations, not limits on the free services themselves.

I complained to the salesperson on the phone ([redacted] at the [redacted]) and sent an email through the corporate website.Desired Settlement: The outcome I desire is that Janovic would honor the offer they advertised: free measurement and installation with the purchase of window treatments.

Janovic got in touch with me and made plans to offer free measurement and installation, as outlined in the advertising circular. I have no reason to doubt the truth of this offer but will not be able to verify that it has been resolved satisfactorily until the product has been delivered and expenses reflect that promotion.
