Jan's Med A Car Service Reviews (5)

my car broke down coming back from boston in new york had a shop there call jen's med a car tow and check the car and charged me almost $800 they said I needed an engine price $4700 so I called affortable transmission in phila to come tow and do the repair and after they checked my car told me it wasn't the engine got it fixed towing from new york to philly and repair total cost $1050! DO NOT GO HERE ! RIP OFF !

Review: The serviced perform was a simple engine swap less than 3 weeks ago. Not less than a week after the work was done, the second time I drove the truck. I was driving south on I87, when the truck stalled and pulled to the left almost causing me to crashed onto the divider. Lucky, I had enough strength to pulled to the right to get enough room onto the shoulder without causes any damage to the truck. It really spook us in the process, because I had my child in the truck. A couple of motorist came to the aid if I was alright. The truck did not want to crack over, upon inspecting the truck 4 out of 8 spark plugs, one being complete out was improperly secured. This is what caused the rapid power lost to the truck. After contacting the business, they wanted to apologize for what happen. I did not accept their apology due the fact they put us in harm's way. This past Friday the truck stalled again, and it had to be towed to a [redacted] in [redacted], service for the dealership confirm that the engine ceased. This situation has been nothing but stressful, they almost put my son and myself in the hospital. I do not want the shop to do anything but to refund me all the money I already paid to include reimbursement for the tow, and rental, I currently have now. The truck is the only transportation I have, I already spend over $3700.00 this past monthDesired Settlement: Refund the $3700.00 I already spend

here are the facts to the complaint. I have several emails from this customer calling me a rip off and more. He was given all the info on the used engine we installed prior to our work, in fact , I had asked him to please take the vehicle somewhere else to be repaired because he was calling me a rip off before we started. Then he apologized and asked that we repair engine. WE replaced it with a used engine. THe vehicle has high performance after market parts on it, including wires, plugs, manifolds, etc he did not want any of those changed. he wanted his old plugs etc transfered. He emailed me on NOv ** he picked up vehicle on [redacted]. On [redacted] of nov he stated his ac harness for compressor missing, and his coolant was not changed, and that he stalled on road and almost crashed, said there were witnesses . I immediately not only apologized but said I would send a tech up there to see if we did anything wrong. He did not want that said he could only have someone come at 4pm I explained that it would be late and dark and tech could not see at that point. so then I asked if he knew a shop in the area close to him he gave me his zip code and I made arrangement with mckay in troy spoke to dale and set up appointment he never contacted them I emailed him couple of times asking why he did not reply to them. he never answered. I asked for police report or name of witnesses that saw his accident if you have a crash there is usually a report, he would not furnish that info. he stated the first time he stalled he reinstalled his plug wires which we did not replace then said he replaced his cap and rotor again we did not replace and he did not want replaced. then he said his coolant wasnt changed was brown it would be impossible to not change coolant I explained to him and again said id come up or send him to shop nearby him. friday nov ** he called and said he died on thruway we are not authorized on that part of thruway to tow so I told him to have it towed and let me know where it is and I will call, we called friday they did not look at it shop said. we called today and said the engine was siezed so we immediately said we would pay for the charges there , send a truck up and replaced the engine and deliver it back to him all at no charge. he called phone call was tapped with him being aware of that call, he refused unless we paid for his rental I explained we could not do that, but id do what I said. his invoice clearly states it has to be brought back to our shop for warranty as is done in the industry. I then called him back on nov ** at 1107 am to tell him I would indeed pay for his rental I left a message on his machine because he did not pick up phone.so I really do not know what else I can do, we do not make the parts we install them,if a part is defective it does not make our work unsatisfactory or to be threatened repeatedly with writing bad reviews -i have sent all of this info to our attorney now because he has told us he does not want us to touch his truck -i have helped him each step of the way never did I not try to help he does not want my help. we did nothing to let him feel we would not stand behind our work we have tried everything - he also told me in an email that he has been ripped off by other shops-but we have not done sohis ac was not removed by us but again I was willing to travel over 2 hours away to look at and take care of- I was willing to pay his charges today and tow this vehicle back here I cannot help someone who does not want my help- I have his invoice signed that any warranty work has to be brought back to jans med a car for warranty or it is void I do not know what else to do to help him I have tried over and over

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

If she wants to do this right. I want to have the truck repair to the standard I paid for no more or less. I currently have a rental that it paid out until Saturday.I have a voicemail sent yesterday I could not make out what was said, reimbursements for the receipts I provided to her, I am also provided the email sent to the shop she refer me to from the first stalled in which I got no response. If I offended her, I apologize, but you have to understand and be in my shoes as to what I have been experiencing. What I stated before was not to hurt her feelings, I was only addressing my concerns when it comes to the standards shops do when performing work to the vehicles I bring in for service the last 20 years. As an business owner, she should had taken that without being so defensive. Three week ago, my son and myself was in a near accidents, because the neglect of an improper basic installation. You think I was going to nice after that and again trust is earn not given, an unforeseen event that almost cost us our lives.I just wanted to be done, because I am a single parent with a 10 son. With that being said I am extremely busy with work and taking care of my son.I already lost my wife to cancer, and what this business did was like no other.I had to purchase more parts the day after the first stalled. Assuming it was normal wear and tear but to found out it was the engine that was bad.The A/C compressor is located on the top right of the engine and there a harness in the back of the compressor that engages the A/C, that is no where to be seen. Attached is the same model engine It bolts to the engine using 4 bolts. If there is a magic trick that involves not removing the compressor when conducting a engine swap on this kind of engine, please enlightening me.The coolant upon inspection was engine oil, that means I had a bad engine from the start in which they fall to realized when they were installing it.She send me a email, to contact an shop that does not provide service on weekends, when I mention to her cannot take time off of work during the week. The truck is the only transportation I currently have for the this kind of weather, and with the weather getting colder. The last thing I need to worry about is crashing because of the neglect her business provided. I am not asking for her to do her job, but if I had a business my customers safety and welfare should be my number one focus with the life of work she provides.Again, I just want this done and over. I would you hope you too?

Response:

the customer stated he replaced a cap and rotor thats why he stalled we did not...we continue talking about the same thing I am not sure what his standards are he paid for a used engine we are standing behind the engine we are doing all we can, all his accessories were connected properly, he was given a receipt with vid number from my supplier he is NOT legally entitled to my invoices, and that will not be provided, when the vehicle is ready he will be called he will then test drive and inspect before he leaves upon his satisfaction for what he paid for and nothing more, he will be credited the rental fee of max of 150 upon a reciept from the rental company, I do not know what else to do, I am trying everything I can to help him and he just keeps going on and on.. we will not be responsible for any of his accessories or high performance after market parts or in any connection with repair or any parts we did not install.. I am truly trying to live up to his standards that is all I can do and I hope I can meet them.Thank you for your help with this. I have cc our attorneys on this matter truly hoping we live up to your expectations sir.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID#[redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

I should not be accountable and have to paid for a rental at all when it clearly was their neglect for installing a faulty engine. I will have no choice but to take this to small claims court, soon I will be $1000 debt because they fail to take responsiblilty for their action. No need to respond, I will see them in court.

My young daughter was 120 miles from home and 160 miles from her destination when Her car broke down on the NYS thruway. the first thing that went through my mind after I knew she was safe was we are going to be ripped off. I dealt with John who not only reassured me of his fairness and honesty, but also gave me the reassurance that my daughter was not in danger. John helped with three insurances, [redacted] and [redacted] extended warrantee. I would recommend him to anyone. God richly bless you John.

Review: We were towed to Jan's from the NYS truway due to a blow out. The tire was replaced.

After one day the air pressure indicator did not return to normal.

We brought the car to the dealership.

The service manager indicated that the tire was not mounted correctly ( wrong side out)

and 2 bolts holding the tire were broken. The wheel hub was replaced as per the dealer recommendation.

We approached Jan's who offered to give us $500 if we gave him the broken hub that was replaced. We refused.

Our lawyer wrote a letter to Jan's but they did not respond.Desired Settlement: Settlement for cost of replacing the wheel hub and new tire.

Response:

first of all we did respond to the patrons lawyer. We offered the patron as a curtesy of $500 not because of any wrong doing we did not do anything wrong, but because we try and satisfy everyone, this was prior to his attorneys involvement. The patron who also went on [redacted] and complained about us-leaves out some info that he put on that review-he states he inspected his car before he left-which means if studs were broken as he states he would have known-he also leaves out that volvo rotated his tires that is how his studs were damaged-we did not mount his tire backwards. Also not only our word but according to Volvo you do not need to replace a hub because of a damaged studs, you only replace the studs. The patron did refuse to return the so called damaged part one because in his own words his mechanic said the hub was oky and could be used if ever needed, I do not know of any store that would refund money without a damaged part. We have every right to ask for a part be returned to us if we are paying for it he refused and so our offer is no longer valid. Our attorney has advised us that the patron is committing liable and slander and we can bring legal suit against him, which we are discussing. We had informed the patron that we would be taking legal action against volvo once we had the damaged part and that is also why he refused. We have answered his attorney we have not heard back from him, and we will always answer. We did not do anything wrong, the customer is trying to hurt our reputation which is grounds for our attorney to bring suit. If I can be of any further help I will answer and help out as honestly as I always have. If you have a bad part and someone was willing no questions asked to return money why would you not want to return the part? So our offer to him is no longer valid we are sorry but we did not cause any damage it was the volvo dealer. thank you also for your information first he wanted $500 now he is asking for over $700, I am sorry we couldnt work this out but we did try and help. There is nothing more we can do. His review on [redacted] also states that he is not going away, I am not sure what that means but we have tried to handle this nicely, and not bring suit, but he does not leave us any choice, we will have to turn this over for suit if he continues with his slanderous and liable comments.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID# [redacted], and have determined that my complaint has NOT been resolved because:

The facts as stated by the business are not true but merely a means to explain their actions and poor business habits and an attempt to discredit what actually happened. We cannot explain what happened in this business transaction any better than is already on record. Our hope is that other customers will check with Revdex.com before having their car serviced at this business. If we have accomplished that goal, I feel we have done a service for others. Thank-you for your attention to this matter.

Response:

I am unsure of what untruths the patron is stating-we did offer him a customer satisfaction refund but he even admitted he did not want to return the part-you cannot get a refund of a damaged part without returning the part-we have every legal right to ask for that part- secondly I have a return receipt from the patrons attorney stating we answered his attorney -the bill he submitted clearly states the tires were rotated by volvo -again I am not sure what he is referring to as untruths -yes I am answering his claims that is what I need to do to protect my reputation -i am not misleading anyone I am clearly stating the facts- you do not need to replace a hub on that vehicle if a stud is damaged -there was no damage to the hub and there was no proof of any wrong doing on jans med a cars part-upon speaking to our attorney he has advised us not to offer the refund -we did all we could do to satisfy him but we unfortunately could not do that and for that I am sorry-but to speak of us having bad business practices is not true again not sure of any other company that would have graciously offered such a large refund no questions asked, he refused and so the offer is no longer valid per our attorney advice. again if I can supply any more info I would be happy to show a copy of the return receipt slip to his attorney that is signed by that attorneys office , the volvo invoice and any other information we may be able to provide. thank you for your time

On or about November [redacted], 2012, Jans Med A Car Service was dispatched via Liberty Mutual Auto Insurance Roadside Assistance during Hurricane Sandy. A $60.00 service fee was charged and $17.92 for ONE GALLON of gas (assumed as there is no way to measure exactly how much was put into the tank). These fees are excessive but what is one to do under these circumstances? I called Jans to get an itemized copy of the bill to submit to my insurance company and was required to pay an additional $20.00 admin fee. Are you kidding? was my response to the woman at Jans. Somehow Walmart was drug into this conversation; not sure why. Even my insurance company was questioning the total of the bill.
