Jay Pahl's Auto Sales & Service Reviews (2)

We purchased a 2000 [redacted] Sedan from Jay Pahl's auto Sales in June of 2015 for my 16 yr old son. We were told the car had been through a thorough safety inspection as well as mechanical inspection, and the car was sound.
The day after we bought it the check engine light came on. We called and were told it was an oxygen sensor and that it didn't need to be fixed, when the time came for an inspection they would get it through inspection. The check engine light was on and off repeatedly, but we were told more than once not to worry about it.
In early October 2015 4 months after buying the vehicle, my son was driving the car and the right front tire fell off. Luckily he was driving in a neighborhood at the time, not at high speeds on the highway, which he has just exited. It turned out that the nut that held the tire onto the vehicle was missing, though the cover for it was on the tire... so much for a safety inspection.
I called the salesman, Chris, and explained the problem. At first he said that there was nothing they could do. but after explaining that I would be sure to let people know of my experience and that fact that my son could have been killed driving a car that was clearly not safety inspected as they promised Chris agreed to replace the axel and ensure the tires were secure on the vehicle.
Recently we had an oil change done at another establishment on the vehicle and found that the seal on the axel was leaking. It needed to be replaced.. and while they had the car they plugged it in to check the code for the check engine light, it was not only for an oxygen sensor but also for the catalytic convert which now also needs to be replaced, another $1200 repair that Jay Pahl was aware of and sold the car under the guise of just an oxygen sensor that needed to be replaced.
I would never ever deal with Jay Pahl again. The are quite obviously not honest, and have no concern for safety whatsoever.
Anyone who asks me, I warn them and I make sure they know if out experience. what I thought was a safer bet from buying a vehicle from [redacted] turned out to be no more than a more expensive way of buying a car that is no better than something I could have picked up in the junk yard.
I would avoid this business at all costs.

My family has been dealing with the P[redacted] family since the 1940s. My grandmother always got her gasoline from him from the time George opened his station in the 1940s. Back in 2003, I brought my car in for a head gasket which was diagnosed by Jay P[redacted]. He indicated that he had no time to do it in the near future so I brought my car to the [redacted] and got severely [redacted]. I saved up exactly the needed amount to have the head gasket changed and nothing else. I called the people at the [redacted] two days later to see how the work was coming along only to find out that they did over $800.00 worth of work which I never authorized and never touched the head gasket.
Jay P[redacted] who initially indicated that the car needed a head gasket, refused to write out a letter stating that he had looked at the car and what his diagnosis was and so I was left to my own defenses. Even though my family was loyal to his family's business, he couldn't be bothered helping one of his long time customers.
Today, May the 11th, 2015, I called, against my better judgment (I was recommended to him by another mechanic in town) to have my air conditioner looked at in my 1995 [redacted]. Jay indicated that he wasn't interested in doing work on a 1995 [redacted] even though I have seen [redacted] of that year on his lot of used cars. He then told me to go to someone who I could trust --- meaning (I took it) that I could not trust him.
Jay's father was an honest man. I would not say the same about Jay.
I don't recommend anyone going to this place of business anymore as you will undoubtedly come to the same conclusion.
