Review: When I went to see Jay Baum ("the attorney") for a free consultation, [redacted] told me that he GUARANTEED me that he would get my legal separation dismissed/squashed as it would not be a big deal to do because of all the medications I was on and because I did not have legal representation when I signed the legal separation and that the case was easy because it only involved a house. The attorney said that any judge would dismiss it. I told [redacted] that my funds were limited and [redacted] promised me that he would work with me regarding the fees involved as I am on disability. I told him I had to think about signing the retainer but [redacted] said that I should sign the retainer right away "as time is of the essence". I signed the retainer because [redacted] guaranteed me that my legal separation would be dismissed.

This attorney made false promises to me in order for me to sign with him. Not only did he get nothing accomplished for me, but he has not worked with me at all regarding the billing. Everytime I got a bill/invoice from [redacted], I called him about the amount of the invoice and the corrections that I felt should be made because I felt the invoice was wrong. [redacted] never called me back or corrected the bill/invoice. Looking back at the billing, [redacted] even charged me for the free consultation. I placed many calls to him regarding the amount of money it was costing me and how I was having a hard time with my finances and he never called me back about it.

It has been almost 8 months and I have had to stop the case because I have run out of money and because the the judge assigned to the case told me that it would take alot of money to get my legal separation dismissed! This is not what [redacted] told me.

Everything [redacted] guaranteed and promised me was a lie in order to get me to sign with him and to take my money. [redacted] should have known from the beginning and at least should have given me an estimate of the money and time that would be involved. [redacted] told me that this was an easy case. He guaranteed me that my legal separation would be dismissed! In court, it seemed that he was not very informed of the repercussions and costs of my wanting to have my legal separation dismissed, but in the consultation, he told me he was very experienced.

The amount [redacted] has been charging me does not match what we spoke about and I absolutely received inferior service.Desired Settlement: My desired settlement would be that [redacted] would accept that the $5,500 that I have so far paid to him be considered paid in full as to my account with [redacted] especially as nothing at all was accomplished with my case.

Review: It has been 2yrs in trying to get a simple divorce. Only 2 matters involved is a 401K and a pension. Which my ex-husband is complying with. A retainer fee of $5,000.00 was given, and expressed to [redacted] I can not pay any more. His words "don't worry I will work off of the retainer fee and it will be all over in 10 months". Through out the past 2yrs another $2,000.00 was billed to me, and paid. I also, had to pay [redacted] consultants $1,000.00. I had to ask [redacted] where my divorce papers where, when my ex received his back in Janurary. [redacted] is still billing me, saying I owe $903.24. These itimized bill's are non sense!Desired Settlement: To end this already, stop billing me for papers being faxed, or an e-mail being read......Enough !
