J.B.D. Cycleries, Inc. Reviews (1)

On Saturday July 16th I went to the store to look at buying a mountain bike for myself. I spoke to [redacted] a sales associate of the store. I explained to [redacted] that as a large man I was looking for a bike that would hold my weight. When speaking with [redacted] he said there were a couple of options and that would not be a problem. I ended up looking at a Trek 4300 series bike and took it for a test ride. After riding it I noticed the back tire was compressing because of my weight. I asked [redacted] about the problem and he said they would just need to add a little extra air to the tire and it would solve the issue. I thanked him and left the store letting him know I would think about it. I came back in that afternoon and decided to buy the bike, a bike rack for my car, a bike lock, and handle bar extenders. When [redacted] was handing me the bike to take home I asked one more time about the back tire and not compressing. He said it would be all set and not to worry about it. I took the bike home and upon riding it the back tire was still compressing a great deal. The next day I went back to Dedham bike with my new bike and they were very kind and changed the back wheel of the bike to a stronger tube to help with the issue. The associate Ed was more then helpful and told me that the tire should not compress any more. However, when I got home the tire had the same issue. I was extremely frustrated so called the store on Monday afternoon about the issue. They stated that for another $50.00 they could try a different tube once again but it would not guarantee a fix. I asked about just taking the bike back at this point in time and they told me it was a 20% restocking fee. I asked about getting a full refund because of the situation and being promised that there would be no tire issue, they told me that it was holding my weight and not a lot of people my size ride bikes. So on Tuesday July 19th in the evening I took the bike back to the shop. They told me that they wouldn't be able to do anything for me at that point because the owner wasn't there. I explained that I was told that I would be able to return it for a 20% fee and I wanted to do that and I would talk to the owner the next day. They did that and credited my account 589.99 of the original purchase I made on the bike, the handle bars, and the bike lock. I was not able to return the bike rack however. So I was credited about 100 less then what I paid for the Bike, lock, and handle bars that were added. I felt that they were not really charging me the full 20% restocking fee so I asked them to calculate again because I felt that they refunded me too much. The associate did and ended up giving me $10.00, which was counter to the point I was making. I left the store and called the owner Jim the next day explaining the situation to him. Jim stressed that for a person my size that any tire would compress at the bottom like it was and that it is ride able and I was being over concerned about it. I once again explained to Jim that his sales associate the day I bought the bike twice let me know this would not be and issue. After a bit of heated exchange Jim hung up on me. I called back about 30 minutes later left a message for him to call me back as he did but stated the best they could do was either put on a new tire again, or refund me the stocking fee once I lost weight and bought another bike from them. We ended on civil terms but I still feel that I was sold something and promised that the tire would not have the issue of compressing like it did. This wasn't the case and the tire kept compressing so I feel like I should get a total refund and not just the 80-85%.
