Re: Case No***Mr*** ***
Dear Mr***:
Mr*** approached my booth at a Carlisle car show late He said he had purchased keys before, and wanted to upgrade for judgingThese are large hole, no "R"
Briggs & Stratton keysThey are $each stamped & code cutI told him two keys would be $He was upset with the priceAt that moment, I should have walked away from the transaction
He then said he was having trouble with his ignition cylinder and wanted to re-place itI told him an ignition cylinder was $and to code it to his car was an additional $He asked for a better dealBecause he had made one previous purchase, I offered the keys for $plus the cylinder for $I did not charge him to code the cylinder to his car
Mr*** sent me a check for $
We sent his order out in December of When he received his package, he explained that the ignition was wrong because it had two little lines in itI assured him that it was correct for a ignition
Some time passed and he asked me again I spent quite a few hours going through my picture files looking at all the ignitions we had repaired for other customerThey were all the same
More time passed, and we had several conversationsHe told me no rush, the one he has works
After I checked all of my catalogs and all available pictures I arrived at the same conclusionThe cylinder we sent was exactly correct for a
I told him the only thing we could do was to take one of these cylinders, sand and file the sides, and plate it at his expenseHe agreedI filed down the cylinder and took it to meet him at Corvettes @ Carlisle I put the cylinder in his hand and asked him to examine itHe said it was fine and agreed to the plating
When the season was over I sent the cylinder for platingWhen it returned from plating, the acid had eroded the pot metal part of the cylinderWe had several conversations back & forth and I spent several hours on two occasions attempting to make the cylinder work, without success
Finally, Mr*** returned his original cylinder that we sold himHe sent me a picture of the cylinder that he wantedAhhhh! What he needed was a cylinder, not a His car was assembled early in from leftover partsAfter he sent the photo, I told him that we have the other cylindersIt would be an additional $I sent another cylinder after coding it to his carDuring this time he called me to cancel his orderI asked him to refuse the package and it would return to meThe Post Office returned the package after about three weeksIn the meantime Mr*** complained to everyone who would listen about my servicesAfter a discussion on the phone I agreed to return $of his moneyWhat do I have to show for this transaction?
One cylinder coded for his car that cannot be sold as new
One ruined cylinder without compensation for plating costs
or hours of work on both cylinders that are uncompensated
The last cylinder returned, again coded for his car and not saleable as newEnclosed are pictures of the cylindersPicture A is first ignition cylinder we sentPicture B is the chrome plated cylinderPicture C is the cylinderHe has had his own cylinder out ten times during all this timeAt no time did he tell me that his cylinder was differentAll this time, I have attempted to accommodate him because he thinks that he knows everything about Corvettes
All this time I have attempted to accommodate Mr***I did everything within my power, without making a mistakeThe fact that he was incorrect should not excuse him from paying for custom service work performed that he authorizedI have been a mechanic all my life, and the first rule is to examine the parts before you try to install themHad Mr*** done this from the start, he would have re-ceived the correct part and all would have been wellHe has complained to everyone who will listen and online, and I will never_be paid for my servicesI have learned a valuable lesson from this customerMr*** made the mistake from the very beginning, not meMr*** is attempting to damage my reputation unfairly
Respectfully submitted,
Joseph J
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 14, 2015/06/01) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
Joe J.'s left off the part that when he first provided the cylinder in I informed him it was incorrectHe said to return such and he would correct at no additional costHe also failed to mention that on the morning of March 9th, at AM after waiting excuse after excuse for a delay (due to illness, due to other car events, due to weddings, etc.) I requested a full refundAt 10:AM, Joe sent me an email package already sentAt 10:he provided USPS trackingAt 12:PM, USPS shows the package was receivedHe could have stopped the shipping hours earlierJoe Jalso fails to mention why as a professional businessman, he never informed me that the package was received on March 29th, where he last indicated few days before very direct, no package receivedIt was not until April 30th, after I started to complain to everyone did he bother informing me of received package, more than days priorHe was hoping I would open a claim for lost package to USPS to be fined for a claim
Joe Jclaimed it was impossible to sand the sides of the key cylinder, have it re-chromed and stay in place on the tumblerJoe is a professional, I am a noviceI fixed my sticky ignition switch and after more than years of waiting requested a refund a noted aboveI purchased from *** ** *** at a cost of $an original rechromed key insert that is smooth on the edgesI purchased via *** at a cost of $an original key cylinder that was codedI removed that chrome insert, pushed into place the rechromed original partAt a local store, had the cylinder recoded at a cost of $My total cost was compared to the ripped off price charged by Joe J
So, how honest is Joe JGives excuse after excuse for not sending the correct partThen claims to send the part, when it was hours later it was actually mailedAnd finally, does not contact the customer for more than days after he received back the package, only because a complaint was submitted to Revdex.comAre these the actions of an honest business man!

Re: Case # *** Mr***
Dear Mr***:
The factory correct part that is listed in the Briggs &Stratton parts books and the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) manual is the cylinder that was sent to Mr***He did not say it was the wrong part, he said it had two ridges on itFor over two years I tried to satisfy him, when all he had to do was tell me his car was assembled from partsEvery time we spoke he told me that he knew everything about this car, and boasted about it, when in fact he didn't know anything about itAfter a conversation one morning I refunded his money, not knowing that the complaint had been filed with you and other places as well
Had I known that, I would not have refunded his moneyI thought we could settle this amicably
Mr*** had purchased aftermarket parts for his carI'll say it again, I am the only one that has New Old Stock parts
There is no resolution available to me with this Expert customerHe knows more than the lock and key manufacturer, and the Corvette Club membership
