Review: I took my taxes to JMU Tax this year and let my preparer [redacted] know that there was an issue with a previous years' tax. I let her know that I was misinformed that taxes didn't need to be filed if there was a loss or less than $500 in gains. I explained to her that I had been going back and forth with the IRS and I ihad tried to remedy the problem myself (unsuccessfully). She stated that she would take care of the issues and would do it for free as a service to a recurring customer.
I completed my taxes for 2012 and left her my paperwork for the 2010 to complete.
A few months later, I received a letter from the IRS stating that because they hadn't received a response from me, I had been found deficient and needed to make payments.
I contacted [redacted] who claimed she never received the proper documentation and that she was sorry and would take care of it as soon as possible. Throughout the next few days/weeks, I kept in contact with her and sent her my documentation whom she turned over to her boss - [redacted].
[redacted] asked me to come into the [redacted] office and I agreed. We made an appointment and on the day of the appointment, I received a call stating that he needed to cancel but that I could drop off my paperwork to be completed.
I dropped off my papers.
Approximately two and a half weeks later, I emailed [redacted] to find out what was going on (since I didn't have [redacted]'s contact info) - she said she didn't know but gave me [redacted]'s phone number and email address. I contacted [redacted] and asked him if my paperwork had been completed and he answered that it had not been completed and that he would need to charge me $350 for processing the amendment. I emailed [redacted] back stating that she had said she would do it for free and I didn't understand why I was getting charged now and her reply was that basically, it was in his hands now and she couldn't do anything for me.
I feel that they have held onto my paperwork for almost 3 months. Lied to me about having done it, lied to me about the price and now, when there is little to no time left and i'm backed into a corner, are telling me that I have to pay $350 to make this amendment when they had originally said they were going to do it for free.
I had erased all of my emails and don't have proof, but I do have recent emails where she acknowledges that she did say it would be gree.Desired Settlement: I would just like for the horror of this tax to be over with already. I have had to deal with taxes/tax amendments/etc for the past 3 years and I would like to be done with worrying.
Please just finish the amendments and fix the errors so that we can all move on.
