Due to the duty of attorney-client privilege that we owe to our clients, we cannot go into details about the issuesHowever, we can address some non-privileged itemsWork with an attorney is personal in nature, so we understand that an attorney's unannounced departure from a firm is naturally
frustratingWe did our best to work with this client and address all concernsIn this case, we spent substantial time talking through issues, including communicating by phone, by email, and in personWe offered a variety of solutions, but all were rejectedIn the end, we were unable to satisfy the clientWe remain open to finding a resolution
Dear Ms. [redacted], We received your authorization to allow us to respond to the Revdex.com regarding these issues. Our response begins by reviewing some key background facts and then proposing a settlement offer. Background: You have requested a refund of $1,600, which our firm received for legal services rendered. This payment was part of a Legal Services Agreement you signed on November 10, 2017, for a total of $2,000 in legal work. The Agreement stated that $1,600 of those fees were “earned for legal services rendered by counseling and design of estate plan.” When our staffing changed, you elected to discontinue the legal services. Under the Agreement, we were within our rights to keep the amount you agreed for services already provided, but we offered to refund the entire $1,600 to you in exchange for you agreeing that this would put any dispute behind us. Specifically, we offered this to you by letter on January 23, email on January 23, and email on January 24. You rejected these offers. Settlement Offer: We remain willing to fully and finally resolve any issues between us by refunding $1,600. This would involve signing a mutual settlement and release, including an agreement that neither party will disparage the other. In summary, we will refund the money when you provide this written assurance that both you and we can put these issues behind us.
